Hmmmm, interesting! I can see then why the Andorians and Klingons with their greater interest in warships would prefer the more agile design.

Bashmoney: Photos are showing fine and they're both looking good! Interesting version of the Emmit. Guess the Vulcan annular warp drives couldn't have been that great since the Andorians, Tellerites, and Klingons were using warp drives simular to Cochrane's. 

 

 

Yes the Vulcan ring drives were more efficient energy wise which is why the Vulcans used them, but the XCV330 proved to be difficult to alter course at high warp. Something the logical Vulcans rarely did once they had plotted a course and laid it into the navigation system. Cochrane's nacelles could be "steered" at high warp by slightly altering the energy output of one nacelle, the slight altering the warp field in essence "pulling" the ship to a new heading. This  was something the Vulcans considered dangerous and illogical, but it appealed to the heads of Earths space program and doomed the ring drives future with Earth starship design.

Mach71: If you don't want to go the whole hog metallic route you should be able to mix some aluminum/silver paint in with the grey to give a slight metallic sheen.

OWOF, Thats an odd looking B/C deck mod, But it looks like your doing a great job

getting it installed. 

BashMonkey, Your Lief is looking cool! I have one from Cosmos from about 10 years

ago but it does not have an opening hanger deck. That mod is very nice!

I'm back to square 1 with the Romulan. I re primed.

I'm thinking of just a grey color now. I've never done Alclad before. and I'm thinking I'll 

go with the classic grey.

OWOF:  I've not seen that bridge modification before.  Looks like you've put a lot of work into it, and it's turning out well.

I am adding a bonus kit I had, a 1/1000 USS Emmit. Earths first true warp starship, only seen briefly in the opening credits of Enterprise.

In my Trek-iverse the Emmit was built about the same time as the XCV330 Enterprise, it was Cochranes pet project meant to demonstrate the superiority of his nacelle based warp configuration vs the Enterprises reworked Vulcan ring based annular warp design. However the disappearance of the Emmit severely damaged Cochranes reputation, however it was soon realized that what some thought to be intentional sabotage by the Vulcans was in fact deliberate corporate espionage. Circumstantial evidence showing it was in fact hijacked and stolen in mid- flight by a previously unknown and hostile species called "Romulans". The evidence was strengthened when years later Romulans began raiding in ships that in appearance had a clear lineage to the Emmit.

Mach71: Personally I'd just use Alclad. I've tried a few different metallic paints and they seem the simplest. Their regular aluminum isn't really all that shiney. 

OWOF: Your photos aren't showing but I can click on the broken link icon and see your photos. Yeah, the replacement bridge does look odd. I think it's resin though I don't think I've seen it rough like that.

I still haven't figured out how to make the pictures actually appear on the site, but if you click the link you should be able to view them. I made a public album on shutterfly. You should be able to scroll through and see the work on modifying the B/C deck section of the saucer.

I've thought about the metalizer paint. I haven't used them in years, but I remember them going on easy as long as the surface is smooth. One problem is I don't want a shiny finish. I'm ok with with a dullish metal color.

Maybe something like Testor's Metalizer paints:

I decided to try rustoleum titanium paint. I figured a dull greyish metal would work.

I was wrong. 

Way too shiny and the metal flecks look bad.

I'll re prime tomorrow.

I sanded the ship today. I think it's ready for a topcoat.

I'll go ahead and post these.

I am replacing the C/D deck with the one I got from federation models. I first removed the old one with a fine tooth saw.

Here's the new one just set in place. I have to remove the bottom flashing.

I traced around the base and cut it out with a dremel

I put a handle on it to avoid dropping it into the hole and worked the edges until I had a good fit

I glued in thin styrene tabs to help support it as I glued it in place. Since the base is thicker than the saucer, the thin tabs have enough spring in them to be able to adjust the new piece

I used superglue to attach the new decks and began puttying, sanding painting, puttying, sanding.............

I was going to cut the window ports into the b/c deck before attaching it, but getting clean cuts into the resin or whatever it is made of was getting a little crazy, so I think I will use decals for those. Next is to cut in the windows around the saucer edge

Looking to see if I figured out how to post a picture. If this works I'll put more of my progress

Ok it seemed to work, Kinda... Does the link work? How do you make the picture actually appear in the text instead of just a link?

Today I sanded, filled some seams, sanded, and put a coat of grey primer on.

Tomorrow I'll do a light sanding and see what what.

I was planing on painting it light grey, but I looked at some screen caps

of the original effects and it looks like it might have a metallic tint.

I painted my 1/1000 ISS Enterprise hull with Tamiya paints, 75% jn grey XF-12 and 25% flat white XF-2 and I think it got pretty close.

I will post pics as soon as I figure out photobucket
