Thank you!  But this GB has me going and going..Victor, Buccaneer, Vulcan...the Valiant seems to be eluding me.  For now.  LOL!

I know what you mean!  The RAF has had a lot of great aircraft over the years.  Not enough time to build them all.

I only looked in yesterday, but still managed to miss a whole lot!

Eagle:  great looking Buccaneer.  Nice work.

Toshi:  that Mosquito just goes on and on looking good.

taxtp:  impressive work on the Spitfire cockpit.

Thank you sir.  I'm just trying to keep up with you and Forum members!

Toshi, I really like that bundle of yellow cables on the fuselage right. Cool looking detail.

Bobby, 19.5". Wow, that thing is huge. Looking good too.

I've been kicking around going crazy and changing my entry to try one of the 1:24 Airfix kits. Looking at the size of your project, I wonder if I will come to my senses.

That Buccaneer is a very attractive aircraft that I'm not so sure I've seen before. Man, this GB is hard to keep up with and here you have 2 going at once.

Edit: and I got reading further down and now you've added a Vulcan. I bow to your, your, I can't think of the right word, but I bow to it Bobby. Big Smile

Steve, I'm all confused about a RAF Zero. What were they doing with those?

And Bish, seeing as how CMK just posted post #600 here, it's an opportune time for me to ask you something I've wanted to know for a long time. What's up with you and Spitfires? I surely hope it isn't a sore subject, I've just been very curious.

Hey Greg, thank you!

Yeah, this GB has really gone to the next level.  I was just going to do the Victor at first.  Then I realized I had a Buccaneer in the same scale in my to trade box.  So I pulled it out and decided to go gear up on both and have the Victor refueling the Bucc.  THEN, I saw my 1/72 Vulcan in my stash...I just couldn't help myself.  The Bucc should be done soon, the Victor is in the paint stage, and the Vulcan should be assembled by the weekend and go into the paint stage.  Don't have the paint for her yet either.  Whew!  And I'm actively looking for a Valiant.  I need help! Propeller LOL!

LOL!  You know, just for giggles, I checked my stash out and counted 24 other RAF kits I could do!  I truly need to seek help don't I?  LOL! Huh?

Hey everybody - Party over at Bobby's house this weekend !  He needs help with some of those 24 kits . . .  Now there's a group build !

The Vic and Buc are lookin very nice man.

But Holy Cow !  It's hard to keep up here.

Doug - the Typhoon looks great.  Very desert worn and faded, a nice effect.  And overall it just looks really nicely done.

Bish - The Canberra is really impressive.  Such a unique scheme, really clean looking, and the base, figures, and power cart give the feeling of "being there".

Between you and Bobby - I haven't seen so much hemp since . . .  well . . .   probably never.

Steve - that's a really unique Zero.  Never dreamed I'd see one as part of an RAF GB.  Always impressed by your creativity and ability to find some unique scenes to model.

Tony - the Spit interior is looking nice.  Shading and highlighting are really making it pop.

Toshi - Lookin like a Mossie now.  And a very nicely detailed one at that !

I've set aside the Hurri for now to work on a Blenheim for the Multi-prop build that ends this month - maybe I'll sneak into in the background of a Hurri photo some time. (It fits the theme of this GB too)  The next step on the Hurri is to work on the landing gear and to start laying down some RAF Dark Green.

I don't have to tell you guys "Model On" . . .  I gotta start catching up !

Cheers !

Chris

*edit       Oh ! - I keep forgetting to ask . . .  Does anyone know the name of the series with Mr. Clunes as an RAF pilot ?

LOL thanks Chris, I try. I like the unique.

Speaking of, I sprayed the grey, well grey green really, to the bottom. I also added the yellow leading edges. When this dries, I'll start chipping, which I already did to the cowling. The painting instructions, which came with the decals, show dark green on the rudder and hinomaru roundels.

I'm glad to put that junk AB aside. This must be the worst paint job I've done in years because of it.

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

That Zeke is looking good MC.

I've made a little more progress. I blanked off the exhaust openings on the spitfire, and built a frame as the nose parts seems to have some flexibility which I wanted to fix. I guess it's due to the multitude of parts that make up the nose, and the lack of positive fit. Anyway, I got the upper cowling cover on, and the next step is to fix up all the seams on the fuselage, then I'll stuff in the cockpit and attach the wings.

Cheers

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Another impressive diorama, Bish.  Very well done!

What did you do for the pavement?  It's an effective appearance.

Thanks check. I found a tot a while back on making hardstandings and its a real improvment over my older ones. Its painted with a mix of buff and light grey then some black addd at a really low pressure so it just spatters out followed by some grey in the corners.

Heres the link i used, i didn't make mine the same way, just the painting part of it.

LOL, no, not really. Over the years i have just gotten sick of how the Spit is rammed down our throats over here. Its pushed as almost a wounder weapon that won the war single handed. And when it comes to the BoB, all we get is Spitfire Spitfire. So its almost a counter reaction to go against it.

Chris, it was a 2 part Comedy drama miniseries called Over Here and was about some USAAF B-17 crews at an RAF base.

Kind of like the Mustang here... Beautiful aircraft, made a major contribution and was instrumental in the winning of the war, but not the only aircraft in the theater. I read in a book once that said if you wanted to impress your girlfriend, send a picture posing by a Mustang, if you want to make it home, make it a Thunderbolt. I have no issues with the Mustang, just like Bish said... Just like to see the others get they're dues too.

Wow everyone, some really great building going on here.  Toshi, I am glad the fuselage fitup is going well, I was worried about that.  I need to add that kit to my bucket list for "enjoyable" builds.

I did get something done last night on the Se5a, I did a base coat of flat black in the areas that will have the look of natural wood, other than that, work and a visit to the dentist has kept me from the bench.

Steve, I'm all confused about a RAF Zero. What were they doing with those?

Greg here is a definition from the ATAIU-SEA captured wings wikia site.

"ATAIU-SEA (Allied Technical Air Intelligence Unit - South East Asia) was one of the Joint Allied Military Intelligence units formed during WW2 to recover Japanese aircraft."

This A6M5 Type 52 Zero was being tested and evaluated in Malaya by Japanese pilots under the supervision of RAF officers in 1946.

There was a similar unit which operated from the UK from 1941 until the end of the war, 1426 (Enemy Aircraft) flight. They operated captured German and Italian aircraft. One of their roles was to tour USAAF bases to show the crews the sort of aircraft they would come up against.

I believe after the warcaptured aircraft were tested by the RAE at Farnbourgh.

I think another story went about a pilot of a P-38 hears a frantic call over the radio that he's been hit in the engine and is loosing coolant, so the old pilot tells the frantic caller to shut off the pump to that engine and shut it down and fly back on one engine. But the caller replies, but I only have one engine, I'm part of the replacment escort of P-51s.

The P-38 pilots replies, oh well, I bet you wish you were in a 38 then eh?

Bish, I'm glad the Spitfire issue isn't anything too serious. I suppose I can see what you mean, and Doug your allusion to the Mustang makes sense.

Not being sure I'm up to the Bristol Beaufighter right now, I'm looking at single engine RAF WWII aircraft. I'm seeing mostly Spitfires, Spitfires, and more Spitfires (solidifying your point, Bish), along with a Hawker Tiffie (which look enticing, especially after seeing Doug's ) or Hurricane or two. I guess I'm surprised there aren't more out there.

At any rate, if I change course and pull my Eduard Spitfire off the shelf, I don't suppose I'll offend you too much, Bish.

Tony, good to see you moving right along. I thought your were building a 1:72 Chipmunk. This GB is a handfull to follow.
