Thanks jack, i believe it was introduced in the early 80's and seems to have been for high flying aircraft such as tankers and recon. I think its easy to see why they did not feel a need to re-paint it.

Thanks G. Ye, i have a set of those, and they are mainly designed around an excersise/war scene with respirators, weapons and so no. I had a look through what i have left and could find nothing useful. There are some British ones in there, but nothing for the sort of scene i was after.

Nice looking Canbera Bish. I didn't know it had such a long service life. Like others have said the decals look great on it and your base is superb as usual. I really need to try those Flory washes.

Thanks Steve, yep, over 60 years. And as max mentioned on the WiP, the B-57's are still be used by NASA.

Toshi, Scott, Tony, thanks very much for the comments. As always its much appreciated.

Just one night away and so much to catch up on.

Tony, great work on the Spit, the pit looks reall nice. I didn't know that about the cockpit door, but makes sense to have as few seals as possable.

Hope i haven't missed anyone, you guys have made this a great start to the GB. Thanks all.

No, I have them on my iPad, on my PC, and on iCloud.

Here we have the front halves of the fueselauge in XF-71.  The dimples you see are not ejector pin marks but are there by design by Tamiya for the Mosquito.

There are no panel lines on this aircraft and rightly so as this is the "Wooden Wonder".  So no scribing is needed sanding seams down.

Unfortunatly, as with most forums, you have to add them to a hosting site such as Flickr or Photobucket and then link them from there.

Tony: Nice work there on the cockpit. I built a Hasegawa (I think) Mark VII years ago right from the box and therefore didn't seal off the door there. Makes perfect sense for a pressurized cockpit.

Toshi: Cool, always great to see the cockpit in there and the thing starting to look like a plane.

Guys... You are all very kind and supportive with your comments... I thank you one and all! Love this GB, and this group, and greatful to Bish for hosting and bringing ys together to share talents and ideas. I'm humbled to be associated with such a group and will be back for the second one we spoke of (Bish) , just have a few more itema to round up to get going.. On the commerative build I decided to do both the Hurricane circa 1940, and the Euro Fighter (2015) The 1940 Hurricane is a 72nd Airfix, and the Euro Fighter is a Hobby Boss 72nd scale. Thanks again and back shortly!

I got the green on the fuse and black on the cowl on the Zero. Spraying acrylics is a serious chore with that old cheap Badger I have for now. I will attempt the grey tonight so I can move on to the chipping, decals and weathering.

The actual plane was pretty beat up so any paint flaws will likely add to the effect. The British painted the roundels and lettering over the beat-up paint so the markings won't be chipped any. It also apperas the tail control surfaces and tail cone were either repainted or a diffternt color. I will probably mask those areas and go over the remaining with a lighter green to show fading, That is probably what it is since there are not any color phots of the tail that I can find. I will keep looking though (BI 05 in the background)

I'm always trying to reproduce a photo and getting myself into a huge research project. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
The USS Puffer during launch.
The Prinz Eugen at Bikini
Now this Zero.

I will not be attempting the camo on the Spit until I get my old AB back. I just cannot get a fine spray with the cheap one.

P.S. The phone camera changed the color some. It is JA green which is darker than it shows.

I see what you mean about the markings and rudder Steve. Could even be the rudder was taken from another aircraft, although the control surfaces on the wings look a bit darker as well. I don't know anything about Zero's, but i did learn that the cointrol surfaces on a B-17 weathered differently to the rest, i think they were fabric covered. Could this be similar.

I do enjoy doing builds useing photo's of the subject, but i find you end up putting even more effort into getting it looking right.

You are correct anout the fabric control surfaces and this may be the case. I like building from photos. There is another plane I'm building from photos for the Midway GB. The B5N2 Kate AI-301 flown from the Akagi. There are photos I find are from the Pearl Attack an I'm going to assume it wasnt repainted in 6 months.

That will be nice.

I have found a couple of pics of the Avenger i am doing but they were taken after it crash landed. So i plan on looking for some before the action. Though i know they were pretty new at the time.

Well after some more reserch it looks like the rudder was black or dark green as well as the Hinomaru. The Roundel was painted just in front of the blacked out Hinomaru.

Hey everyone!  Some really great work in here!  This GB is bringing out some awesome builds!

My apologies for not posting pics more often.  I've been very busy at work, had multiple VA appointments, and had Jury Duty!  I have been doing the builds, just haven't had the time to post pics.

The Victor has been a Royal pain (pun intended).  Huge gaps, lots of sanding.  But as you will see, she has been assembled and gotten a primer coat.  Now I have to figure out where to paint her!  LOL!  She won't fit in my spray booth.  Embarrassed  I did get the "right" paint colors for her, so I'm excited about getting her painted up.  So...with all that said, here are some pics for you to check out.
