mc:  well done camo on the Spitfire; looking good!

Toshi:  magnificent detail work on those engines and all; exceptional

tempest:  what a great plane!  Looking forward to your build.  Years ago, Harriers appeared at the EAA airshow/fly-in at Oshkosh, Wisconsin.  It was amazing to see them take off and land.

scott:  what a challenging kit!  I tried Roden's Pfalz in 1/72 years ago; didn't do so well.  May the plastic submit to your will!

Thank you sir!

Toshi

I'm now in the starting process of assembling the wing sections.  Here are the assembly instructions.

DANG TOSHI!   That thing is coming along nicely!   I am amazed at how each step is like a model kit in itself!

I finally got some bench time in...after some trouble getting the fuselage halves to meet up around the crew compartment,  I was able to get it together after separating and sanding...

I was also able to get the stabilizers and wings assembled and attached in their respective locations

Thank you sir.  Yes, I must agree with you in that each assembly step is a kit in itself and I'm not even halfway through the assembly directions book.  Yes, it's like reading a book!  LOL!  Thanks for the kind words.

Your Lancaster bomber looks fantastic!  Keep up the great work!  That's big kit in itself, you'll need a lot of room to display your artful creation.

Here is my contribution to the build. This kit looks beautiful.  I have a couple of the old Hasegawa kits in the stash which have now been put in the parts bin. No comparison.

Nice, good to see an early Harrier, and even better to hear it beats hasegawa.

I started assembly tonight.  Man, as I expected, I have a challenge and this kit cannot be built using the instructions. My RC plane building experience kicked in. For everything to fit, such as the engine, wings, cowl covers, and the cockpit fuse section, I am forced to jig up the airframe, and then start building the engine after the fuselage is secured and aligned and making adjustments to the engine by test fitting and sanding various assemblies so that the cowl covers and radiator will fit.  There also needs to be some support added to the inside of the fuselage when attaching it to the wing or else it will be out of alignment. When I am all done, there will still be a 1/16" gap between the wing root and the fuselage that will need to be filled, other than that, it was just a lot of trial and error, sanding and fitting to get everything to line up.  This is where I left off last night. Just tacked glued everything and will let it dry, if everything looks aligned, then I will glue everything up. Not a lot to show since it took a lot a concentration to focus on keeping everything in alignment.  The plastic if very soft and flexible.

Some bit of improvision Scott.

Hello All,

Beave - "earmuffy" Smile Hehe . . .  I'll have to add that to my technical dictionary of modelling !

Toshi - Those engines and Nacelles keep looking better with each post.  I like the way those exhaust tubes came out.  They look heat-discolored - not rusty like mine sometimes do.

Check - Nice ref photo - thanks.  I have the same ordinance going into a Blenheim at the moment.  This will help me to make 'em more realistic - hopefully.

BrandonK - One trick that I learned (don't remember where) to highlight seam defects during the build is to just go over them with a silver sharpie marker (or silver paint - but a shapie is easier).  It really makes defects pop out - whether its grey, white, or black plastic.  In fact, I used it on my hurricane build to check the fuselage seams - you can see it in the photo that I took before the first coat of dark earth was applied.  I paint with acrylics - so I can paint right over the sharpie "ink".  If you use enamels, you may have to seal it somehow - so the silver doesn't bleed through a coat of fresh enamel.  I'm really not sure though.

Johnny - That Harrier kit is a sweet little gem.  I built one last year.  Airfix did a great job engineering that kit.  Get ready for some marathon decaling sessions.

Scott - Instructions Schminstructions.  You got this.   I never even thought of "tack gluing" before.  That probably would have helped me on one of my last builds - I'll have to remember that idea.  Thanks !

Greg - yeah - at speed, on a smooth water surface, it might be like just driving down the road . . .  but any disturbance in the water or in the air . . .   it would make me really nervous.

Justin - That Lanc looks intimidating !  As both an aircraft AND as a model.

Bish - back in the saddle with your computer ?

Thank you sir.  As I tried to mix the correct ratio of paint per Tamiya instructions, I noticed that in my Vallejo Weathering Set for Green Vehicles, I had an unusual experiment.

I used Vallejo #985 Hull Red.  I thought it too dark so I lightened it up with my Tamiya Weatherine Master C set Silver to highlight certain areas.

I liked what I saw so I just ran with it even if it was not per Tamiya's specs.  Oh well.  LOL!  Thanks for the read and reply sir!

It took me most of the day getting the wing root assembled and painted plus, the right wing undersurface.  Check out the chrome light!

Painted the chrome light with Model Master Enamel Chrome Silver 1790.  Also installed the PE radiator and MG1 Magnets.

Tamiya has provided a mask for the light, so before I mask the light, I took this photo of it.  I really like how it came out with the MM Chrome Silver 1790.

Toshi,  that looks awesome!  Despite the 17 inch wingspan of my Lancaster,  I with I had space to build something of that scale!

Another quick update from the Dambusters. ...since I will be doing an in flight scene, I just ordered a set of in motion propellers from propblur.com, as I am building the engines/nacelles right now.....

Thank you sir!  I'm very pleased with the light.  That was such a easy call and a simple job process.  The job that took the longest was the white that needed to be painted in the wing root.  That took several coats hence the all day situation.

Your Lancaster Dam Buster is really gonna look cool with the prop blur!  I've never attempted that yet.  I'm extremely interested in this process and will be following your progress very closely.  You sir are doing a great job on your massive build although you are correct, I'm the fool with no room with such a massive 1/32 Mosquito!  LOL!
