I mean, I'm building four models for four other Group Builds, plus a couple extra models that are just for fun, (one is for my brother). I mean, I'm trying to slow down for you, really I am!

Just ordered an hasegawa f-18f, and the italeri su-34 flanker( the one with the tandem cockpit) and a f-16 c/d night falcon. Hopefully these dont take too long to get here, I have never ordered from djhobby.com before. This is the drawback of being stationed overseas. I am also waiting on my badger 150 professional kit to get here - still-. Guess that i'll have to work some on my su-47 berkut for the stealth gb for now.

Finally got a start on my JU87 today....I will get some pics up as soon as I figure this picture posting thing out....

Johnforster's right. Photobucket makes it so easy to post pics. However, you are limited to about 250 pics total, unless you opt for their pay plan. As a free subscriber, you get 250 pics. I know. I have 248 on my Photobucket account.

Got some more painting and decaling done on my Skyraider. I should have pics up later today.

I started to paint the invasion strips on mine with all the white sprayed and nearly masked!

not much to report on my f-18f for the gb. i did manage to get the bottom of the f-18 painted i hope to get a lot more done the next few days if i am up to it been sick as a dog the last few since i am under house arrest by the dr. i have plenty of free time.

Well, let's see if I got this picture thing figured out. These are hopefully pics of my JU87 pre-topside paint. Please remember that this is my first serious model attempt since I slapped them together oh those many years ago (gasp, has it been 20 years already)

I would like to join this Group Build, if I may, and enter my Airfix 1/72 Fokker DR 1.
Are there any comments regarding the quality of this kit?

This will be my first ever group build, and my third model.

I have not started this project. Think I will this afternoon.

I think that FrostyGirl's D VII helped make up my mind up to do the DR 1, as I was thinking of building a Bristol Bulldog. Some reason I cannot see the links for FrostyGirls pics on the page. Will see about rectifying this.

This is the first time that I'm going to spray on the D-Day markings so if I do it carefully it should look good , and better then the thick decals which don't confirm properly!

Duke, we never actually had a GB badge, it was one of those 'make your own badge' type things. That's why you'll notice that my badge reflects my build, as is the same with several of the others.
To save you the trouble, I made you a badge. (5 minutes in MS paint. Feel free to make your own if this one isn't up to scratch.)

Nice badge! How do I go about creating my own though?

Simple!
1)Type the name of your aircraft build into Google images http://www.google.com.au/imghp?hl=en&tab=wi&q= .
2) Choose a nice looking pic of your build, one that is pretty cool and shows your build.
3) Save it to your HDD.
4) Open it in MS Paint, Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia Fireworks or other imaging program.
5) Insert text as the name of your aircraft.
6) Insert this text somewhere as well: 1/72 Attack Aircraft Group Build 2005
7) Save the image when you're happy with how it looks.
8) Host it online http://www.photobucket.com
9) Resize the image online till you're happy with the size.
10) Click on the image's url then press 'Ctrl C'
11) Update your signature to include the image in the bottom of it ( type .
12) Click 'Check Signature'.
13) Display your badge with pride!

I have gotten so excited about my entry into the worlds of model making that I have struck forth and built two models since my last post, and am base painting the next, a SPAD XIII.

I still have some small alterations, and many touch-ups to do, and then a final coat of enamel spray I think.

This Airfix kit is . interesting . as I am a beginner modeller, and for some strange reason, there is a lot of guesswork to be done regarding parts and colour.
The mould is not great, having lots of extra flashing and *bits* to carve off.
I also have to point out my disappointment over the plastic colour. Red. While I had decided to paint a completely red DR I, I felt ripped off painting it the colour it already was. I'm trivial and slightly pathetic, I know.

As I stated, I wanted to build a Fokker DR I for this group build, and have done so, as well as the Bristol Bulldog that I was first considering as an entry into this GB.
(For my next great adventure, I would like a Bristol Bulldog ride. )

Both kits are Airfix, and overall, I am not impressed by these kits.
In fact, the Bulldog's bar between the wheels was so misshapen, that it entirely lacked the lug necessary for the wheel supports, holding the aircraft off the wheels, to sit. Bit more carving, and all is hunky.

If I may ask for clarification regarding the GB badges; do we create our own with a photograph of our own model ? If so, yippee !!!

You're from NSW? O well, your loss I guess .
As for the Airfix kits, compared to today's great model companies like Tamiya, Academy, Hasegawa, Trumpeter, etc, Airfix is old and their kits reflect it. Airfix kits definitely aren't for beginners, I've been modelling for quite a few years now and I wouldn't even go near an Airfix kit, because they require too much scratchbuilding to be made worthwhile.
For us 'beginners', it's better to pay extra and have all that details plonked in our laps.
As for the red plastic, I'm currently painting an SR-71A Blackbird which is molded out of black plastic. No sweat, but I see what you mean.
The badge? Yes, it's a 'make-your-own-badge' type thing for this one. Have fun!

Well, I was going to enter with an F/A-18 F for this build, but since it hasnt arrived yet and I just happened to find the f-16 C/D that i was looking for, that will be the first entry for this GB. It is the Italeri kit and as such shouldnt take too much time to build OOTB except for some better ordinance from Hasegawa!!! Should start on the bird tonight or tomorrow night!!!

well got a good bit done on my f-18f for the gb. top side painted and tail fins painted and decaled. both the top and bottom is furtured and the wait now begins. still got to work on the landing gear and armenment for the f-18, this has turned out to be a darn good model and my frist at photo-ech.i hope to have a few pics 2row, now the next long and timing part is coming all those darn decals.

I wish that I had John's wisdom regarding the Airfix kits, before I commenced this model.

Now that I have one DR I, I am excited about building a staffel of DR I's and D VII's. I would like a collection of DR I's with varying paint schemes. Plenty of examples are available from different websites. Many are in colour, and fantastic...!

Regarding the Academy kits, I have just built one yesterday, and am not impressed by the finished article.
The seams and part joins do not meet flush, and there are many gaps to be filled in the joins of the fueselage and the joins between the engine, machine guns and fueselage.
Even though the moulds were cleaner and crisper, and consisted off less *fluff*, *crap* etc, then the Airfix kits, the parts do not fit. Yes, preparation of the parts was done.

Thats one rant

Does anyone have suggestions of what is best to fill these sorts of gaps, and the techniques used to accomplish *neat* joins?

Modelling putty always works well. Buy it from your LHS.
Another idea is to use that automatic 'white out' sticky strip dispenser thing. Stick it over the gap, sand it back a bit so it's flush, then paint!

Nitethyme, that is a good looking triplane guy!

My favorite way to fill seams is gap filling CA glue, such as Zap-a-Gap. I apply it to the seam, 'kick' it with an accelerator, then apply more if necessary and 'kick' again. Mostly one coat is enough, except over large areas like the stern of the aircraft carrier I'm building. The nice thing about using the CA and accelerator is that you can start sanding almost immediately.

One other thing I like about using CA glue instead of putty is that; especially over larger areas, the gap-filling CA glue will sand so smooth and flat, it looks like the surrounding plastic once I'm done and the area is painted.
