Lockheed GB anyone?
Posted by ruddratt on Thursday, June 28, 2007 5:52 PM

I was thinking that it might be a good way to bring a lot of different interests to one thread. It would include any subject (from any era and in any scale) that is affiliated with the Lockheed name (this includes Lockheed Martin), whether they be military transports, airliners & civil transports, patrol & reconnaissance aircraft, fighters, helicopters, missiles, or space technology.

As there are currently quite a few GB's in progress and more slated for later dates, I was looking at a start date of sometime around October or November and having it run for 1 year. Anyone interested?

Here's a link that lists some of Lockheed's projects....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_Corporation

Contributions to the design of a group badge are ALWAYS gladly accepted, and cross-over builds between here and the P-38 GB have been mutually agreed upon and will be welcomed. Thumbs Up [tup]

Sounds interesting Mike.  I don't have anything in my stash at the moment that qualifies but an october/november start date would give me lots of time to rectify that Big Smile [:D].  I just had a look on wikipedia at the list of aircraft and another p-38 would grab my interest.  A F-104 in Canadian markings would be cool too.

That's awesome, Dave! Remember also that anything under the name of "Lockheed Martin" also qualifies and brings in quite a few more choices. I really like your Canadian F-104 idea! Wish I'd thought of it!

I would like to join this GB. I'm building a Lodestar for another GB, but it'll be done soon.

Put me in for a C-121.

Great to have you on board, bondoman! You've been added to the list, and I really like what you chose for your entry. Thumbs Up [tup] Plenty of time to finish your Lodestar (neat-looking kit!) as we won't officially be starting until October at the earliest.

Does anyone have a link to a list of all Lockheed aircraft?  I've been looking, but haven't really found a good one.

Stop twisting my arm, Mike! I like the late start date.

For now, put me down for the 1/48 Academy T-33A Shooting Star...this may change to a P-80, depending on whether I think I can handle a rescribe job or not.

Mike,

there is a nice article in 10th issue of Air Modeler : "F-16D Greek Classic" - some interesting reading (at least for me - never done a jet yet :) )

I am getting F-16 walk around from Kagero - it comes with free decals :)  and nice painting schemes.

Thanks for the update about the article, Greg! I'll have to check it out! Thumbs Up [tup]

...and nice pickup on the walk-around with the decals! Thumbs Up [tup] I'll be using the kit markings on mine, but not Tamiya's color call-outs. I've been reading that when these birds got overhauled, they also got repainted with a 2-tone scheme of gunship grey and medium grey, so I'll probably take that route.

Found this, too...some neat stuff! Thumbs Up [tup]

Mike,

I am going with "Kosciuszko Squadron" markings - a legacy of M. Cooper since 1919. The  "Question of Honor" inspired a lot of people to do a collection I plan to do as well.

F-16 is the last in the line - starting with Albatros D.III oef Smile [:)]

I have a lot reading but hopefully it will be all fun Smile [:)]. I am not sure about any PE or resin parts. I will have to rely on some more experienced fellows here for an advice Smile [:)]

I can help you with that, Dave. Starting with the P-80, Lockheed's secret development work was conducted by its Advanced Development Division, which is more commonly referred to as the "Skunk Works". Wink [;)] Other projects include the U-2, the SR-71, and the F-117.
