For those who are interested in those wingy things that were used by my previous employer (the RAAF), the Navy and Army, the following website, if you don't know about already, maybe of interest. http://www.adf-serials.com. I have also posted this website in the Aussie Group build folder.

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the Aussie modelers thread seevee, always nice to have another Aussie on the forum (we are in fact taking over this forum bit by bit Big Smile [:D])

I know that ERTL did a 1:18 1968 Dodge Charger from the movie "Bullitt" with Steve McQueen, you can check it out at
http://www.idcow.com/etl2037.html

ERTL also do a Pro Stock silver and red 68 Charger that you can check out at

Darren; I agree with Jules that the Matilda 11 is not a bad kit but it does suffer some of the minor problems of early Tamyia kits including overcoming the kits provision for mounting a motorizing kit. If you decide on the three colour Caunter scheme the instructions will not be of any great help, as Jules has highlighted. There is a debate on hyperscale that the blue in this scheme does not exsist, at least on the honeys, but I have photos of matildas that show blue in use in this scheme. Im using these photos as a reference although it will be a guess about the top of the turret as the photo don't show this very well. Ill post a photo of the completed model when I finish painting it.

Possible colours for the Caunter scheme are;

Desert yellow = Tamyia XF 60 Dark Yellow, you can added a small amount of XF 49 to darken it
Dark Green = Tamyia XF 61 Dark Green
Slate Grey = 60% Tamiya XF20 Medium Grey and 40% XF 23 Light Blue.

hope this helps.

It's all from the Eduard IIIC Royal kit. Some wierd things they do, eg all of the instructions are written for the 'Profipack' (a level down from the 'Royal') so you find, for instance, a resin seat in the kit that is quite different to the one in the instructions and not mentioned anywhere at all. I think the plastic one is an MB4 & the resin an MB5, but consequently some of the PE doesn't easily fit onto the resin seat. All up though, Eduard do a wonderful job.

I added a few pipes etc to the wheel well after looking at the RAAF IIIO, which has absolute spaghetti in there. I'm doing the SAAF scheme but couldn't find any pics of their interior of the IIICZ, so I've copied bits from various sources, eg the multifarous seat colours are from a Sea Vixen as it was the closest seat design I could find to the resin seat.

Here are some progress pix of the Mirage. Cockpit tub almost ready to go( it's not glued in here, just sitting loosely). The seat was a whole deal in itself, pity I didn't think to take some shots before I stuck it in.

Panel & instruments (sorry for the crap photos):

Some of the PE goes onto the wall rather than the tub:

The front wheel well is the reverse side of the tub - obviously sans wheel at this stage:

There's a whole bunch of detail up the jet pipe although you need an arthroscope to see it, which begs the question...

Daniel, Mate i can't wait until the Canetoads kick the Blues A- -E this season, i'm gonna rub it in big timeMischief [:-,]Laugh [(-D]Tongue [:P]Wink [;)] Please disregard this comment if QLD losesThumbs Up [tup]

Darren the Matilda 11 is not a bad kit at all, it goes together fairly well but the exaust system is a liitle trying, the only other gripe i have is with the colour guide, i want to do the 3 colour Caunter scheme but the instuctions are hopeless there is no colour guide at all only a B/W pic of the finished model which is not much help, i asked about the actual colours on the armour forum and was advised to go to the Review forum and have a look at the Stuart Honey in the Caunter scheme so at least now i know what colours to paint it, but i do still need to find out exactly where the colour demarcation lines are.......other than a vague colour guide it's a pretty good kitThumbs Up [tup]
OH yeah BTW you will have to fill up a couple of holes where the old motorized bits used to go.........Jules............

Mike J. Excellent work your 1:72 F9F-5 Panther and Kamov Ka-27 Helix ASW Helicopter. Thanks for sharing.

To both Mikes, decanting paints from spray cans, never even thought about that technique. Guess you learn something everyday.

No problems Smile [:)]

Kit is a Matchbox 1:72 F9F-5 Panther from VF-144 aboard the USS Boxer in 1955. Decals are from Microscale and needed rescue treatment with Microscale decal film to prevent shattering. The kit decals were dead as the kit had been stored in a shed before I got my hands on it via ebay.

I used Tamiya AS Spraycan dark sea blue for the overall finish, which I decanted for touch ups. Other paints were from Aeromaster, Vallejo, Citadel and Humbrol.

As you can see, the Microscale decals performed like champions, bedding down without silvering! I used Superscale white decal strips to replicate the prominent white canopy seals.

Build-up was excellent with only moderate amounts of filler used. The use of a Flex-i-file paid dividends here for fuselage seam work. Thanks Thommo!!

I used the kit seat with Tamiya tape belts to simulate the harnesses. In fact the cockpit was the only place I had difficulty with. More me than the kit I guess!

cheers

Mike that's a great looking Mustang, what decals did you use for it?

Mike J I love the chopper, great job. Now how about posting a couple of shots of the Panther that's hiding in the corner of some of the Helix photos.

Hi all

A trio of sneak peek pics of my just finished Kamov Ka-27 Helix ASW Helicopter. I took these whilst the Kamov was residing in it's new home.

Flat coat was finished on Sunday morning using Pollyscale clear flat acrylic and in the afternoon I did final detail painting and added replacement fuse wire step-rungs (the kit offerings were out of scale, chunky and entirely wrong!)

Canopy and side window masking was removed and the blunt end of a shaped toothpick used to clean up some errant paintwork. The window wipers then needed to be painted as well.

I had to use a brass tube section to correct the sit of the rotor head, this has really improved the final look of the model.

The whole model was then treated to some selective pastel chalk weathering, which really lifted the model more.

The flat coat reduced the wash effect somewhat, even removing a little here and there, but nothing really bad and certainly something I am not annoyed about.

Still, here it is, so I hope you like what you see. I will post better pics later this week when I can set up my photo corner.

Time to get on with my BoB and SF Ground Assault GB entries

cheers

I had a feeling it was good old AS-12, my favourite BMF, though I would not go down the path of decanting and airbrushing it!

Well done Mike, looks the bees knees

Thanks guys the finish is AS12 tamiya , but I removed the paint from the can and air brushed it on , for the shaded panels I just added several drops of flat black to the AS12 . when all the decals were done and dryed I gave it a final coat of pledge and thats the finish you see . I sprayed AV acrylic flat clear on the antiglare panel .

I'm no way experienced enough to use BMF .

thanks mike
