I'm with phroosh on this one, speelling is a state of mind thing, flashbacks to rulers across the knuckles for getting it wrong

I had an Aztec 470, Alclad put that one to sleep forever, but never had a problem with it.
This Omni is a great brush to use, but the tip dry is slowly making my hair greyer by the minute.
There has to be an answer, and I'm sure one of the American chaps here will know it, just a matter of time.

tweety1, I have been using Tamiya Acrylics with Tamiya X20A thinner at 1 part paint to 1 part thinner and can spray for a fair while before tip-dry sets in. I usually run about 15psi pressure for general spraying. When it does happen I use a soft paint brush and Windex to just clean around the tip, give it a blast of air and keep spraying. The other thing I have found really helpful is using a smear of Medea Super Lube on the needle. Hope I'm not telling you how to suck eggs! I know what your going through, everyone gives you thier magic solutions but they just don't work for you, I found that out while trying to spray Future (Pledge One Go) without pebbling. Maybe there is a very slight film of dried paint left on the needle, just enough to give the paint you are spraying something to grab onto and start building up. You could try soaking the needle in Windex overnight and then giving it a wipe and lube. I have done this and was surprised at what came off the needle on a clean paper towel, considering I thought it was clean before. Thats about the limit of my knowledge at the moment, hope it helps a little. Good luck.

Matt, I found it at Woolworthes in the section with all the floor cleaners and stuff like Jiff, Handy Andy, etc. It is good stuff although I can't get it to lay on with a high gloss like others say you can get, but decals go on without silvering and once I put on a final Matt coat it's all good. It dries quick and is as tough as nails. I think I've seen some at Coles as well. Go to Swannies website to get the lowdown on using it.

I have finally drafted a set rules for the group build and if everyone is happy with them I follow up with the request for a sticky post so that the group build can proceed. Am interested in all feed back re this matter, depending on feedback I intend to arrange for a stick post in ten days. (this should give all interested modellers a chance to reply)

This group build is to be all about enjoying modelling, sharing with other modellers and showing the rest of the world that modelling is alive and well in Australia.

Draft Rules.

1. The group build is open to Aussies, Kiwis and adopted Aussies regardless of where they reside. Modellers may join the group build at any time providing that they believe they can complete their model by the completion date.

2. The model can be of any scale and is to be from one of the following classes;

a. Any military vehicle, aircraft or ship that has been or is currently in service with the Australian Forces. Must have Australian Markings.

b. Any civilian vehicle, aircraft or ship that has been or is currently in use within Australia. Must have Australian corporate or private markings. In the case of touring cars on the australian circuit, team markings will be accepted.

c. Any Fiqure providing it is of an Australian Subject.

3. The completion date for the group build is 31October 2004. Start date will be from the date the group build sticky is posted.

4. Modellers may post photos of their model at any time, this includes progress photos. Photos of models completed after the completion may still be posted.
after all the purpose of the group build is to show the rest of the world that we can build models downunder.

Tweet. When I lived in Alice I had the same trouble. Cured mostof it by turning on the Government Issue airconditioner to put a bit of moisture in the atmosphere.

At this point I'd try spraying during a full moon, with lace socks on, and Sound of Music playing on the stereo if it will stop the tip dry.

You mentioned the Medea Super Lube, so I'm assuming you got that from OS?

Nice simple draft there South Aussie, and I'm definately in, just gotta find a subject.

Maybe a Collins class sub, wouldn't take much, just throw a sieve into a bucket, and your done!!!

Just 1 question. Am I safe to assume that the models can be placed on a diorama?

Yeah a dio of a blackhawk crashed in a tree would be just as apt as the Collins!

tweety1, I got the Super Lube locally in Canberra, from the same place that sold me my Iwata airbrush (I think Medea and Iwata are linked somehow). It was about $12 for a tiny bottle but it will last for a couple of years and does make a difference to the way your brush works. If you can't get some up there in the Boonies let me know if you want and I can get an exact price for you with postage and I could send it to you, I'm sure we could work something out.

thanks for the longer (than expected) completion date - cos I'm in a sling after a shoulder op and it has to remain like so for 6wks - one down, five to go. Not even my physiotherapy skills can help me now cos i am on my holidays and i cant do any models - all i can do is research my next project. Gee . . . this short post has taken me about 8 minutes to type with my left hand - thats an improvement on yetersday - lol.

Holly crud! I didn't realize how many Aussie's we had! I'm not Aussie, just felt like saying something.

I've ordered a mounted Lighthorseman figure for my project. I may also do a WW2 RAAF project when my Mum gets some more info on her Dad's service.

J S here the group build sounds fine,ive been sitting on a ICM MK9 spitfire with Clive Caldwells personal markings for about 2 years now and a group build gives me an excuse to build it.Something of note of Caldwells 27 plus 3 shared victorys included german experte Oblt Erbo Graf von Kageneck of III/JG 27credited with 69 victories.Killer Caldwell is also one of the few fighter pilots of WW2 who shot down German Italian and Japanese aircraft.

I am looking at the CAC Avon Sabre in 1/48 from High Planes.
Goes for around $50, and I'm told it has the conversion set in it to tell it apart from the 'slow as a slug' F-86 American Sabre.

Not sure if it will be 100% accurate, and from the EXTREMELY slim pickings of pics on the net, the cockpit will be a bit of a pain to remake into the Australian model.

I have found some pics, but B&W really doesn't help, unless I want to do the panel and sidewalls in grey

BTW, phroosh was right about the blackhawk.

Was going to make one, but I'm scared it'll spontaneously combust on my bench

33 years in service, kool ! what was your career in the RAAF ? Hopeing to apply myself end of next year as a pilot or areonautical engineer, been a dream since ... forever

J.S I picked up the Hasagawa Spitefire Mk. VIII today as my subject for the group build and would you believe one of the decal options was for Caldwell's aircraft.

Tweety1. If I can remember from a close up look of a sabre that I saw at Laverton in the early 70s the cockpit was not much different from the US model and it was painted in Green Zinc chromate colour.

ILuv3ggs, I was employed in the Ground Telecommunication area, mainly in the HF communication role and depending in what era it was my mustering (job name) was Lineman, then Antenna Rigger followed by Communications Electronic Tech. Retired a the dizzy heights of Warrant Officer. Must admit I did enjoy my time in the RAAF.

Matt, I am really enjoying my retirement I think I earnt it. I have also found Military Hobbies good especially seeing they stock Vallejo paints which I am trying with the view of using them only for fiqure modelling.

i'll be on the dark side though, and i''m already thinking of building the italeri kit of the M107 self propelled gun. i've done some research and found that we used it at Nui Dat during the vietnam war but i can't for the life of me find a photo or any information on the markings that we used on it. does any one have any help? where is the best place to find information like that?

I can't help you with your M107 question at this time but I see if I can chase up some infomation for you.
