Thanks for the birthday wishes.
The Lanc is the Airfix Dam Buster and a great kit too.
I will be building it as then Flt Lt H "Mickey" Martin RAAFs AJ - P with the serial no of ED909. Martin ended his career as at least an Air Comodore in the RAAF.

Hi Guys!

I'm Chris, 40, been modelling for 35 years.
I'm afraid I'm still a Pom, but I'm moving to near Brisbane in a couple of months. I model 1/48 WW2, especially RAAF and RNZAF. Projects in the pipeline are an F-4-1 Lightning, a P39, a P43, an F4U-1A, and hopefully once they arrive, a Spit VIII and a couple of Boomerangs. Also got a Tempest V and a Typhoon which is gonna end up as the sole night fighter prototype. Can't wait for the Classic Airframes Beaufort to appear! That little lot should keep me busy for a couple of months (decades!!!).Laugh [(-D]

In the queue: 1/48 Beech Staggerwing (RAAF), P38 (RAAF), Vultee Vengeance (RAAF), Spitfire Vb (Malta), Spitfire VIII x2 (RAAF), P39 x2 (RAAF), Martin Baltimore (Malta?), Martin Maryland (Malta), Typhoon NF1b, Hellcat x2 (FAA)

Hi! Chris, Sounds like you have a full schedule there.
If you check this thread out you should find a couple of Aussie modellers based in Brisbane that would be happy to give you info on the modelling scene in the area.

If you are interested we are planning a group build for aussies or adopted Aiussies. Info on this is buried some where in the later pages of this thread. (Shock [:O] never thought that the thread would grow to this size)

How are you Chris,i live on Brisbanes Southside and i know a couple of good hobbyshops around here but lately i seem to be mail ordering stuff from around Oz mostly in Victoria.
Hey you blokes do you read Model Art Australia its not a bad magazine and theres lots of hobby shops and the like advertised in it which comes in handy when your looking for something specific that your LHS doesnt have.
tweety1 you must be keeping count on how many of us are in this group build, ive lost count but your right its going to be big im doing 2 for it, buy the way how many of us are in this group build?
Iluv3ggs i asked about your tracks at springwood sorry mate no luck youd be laughing if Australia used Tigers and Panthers though.
[PS] speaking of big its not just the amount of posts on this subject have you seen the amount of views its had by others who use the forum . I think you might of started something here South Aussie.

Had a look at the aussiemodeller.com site. Dunno... It's pretty graphic intensive which makes it way slow to load, I guess they will get a better balance in time. It's more of a worry though that they publish the IP number of contributers in their forum - they only need one dill with a cruddy sense of humour and he's got a direct line into your comp. Strange.

Cheers, Andy!

Yeah I read Model Art, pretty good mag IMHO. The bi-monthly thing is a bit of a pain (I'm an impatient buggerWink [;)])

As far as head count for the group build, I'm not sure, but maybe 12 or soConfused [%-)]

What was the deadline again??
Trying to squeeze modeling inbetween work-kid-sleep etc?

hey, thanks for asking JS, i kept looking around and found that Hong kong Model Creations makes them, but they are currently out of stock, so hopefully more will be on the way !

all my stuff has arrived !

I have the italeri Leopard 1A4, the ocnverstion set to make it into a Leopard AS1, a Metal Barrel, and a detail set ... the only thing is that some are for tamiya, some are for italeri ... so i am thinking of getting the tamiya one as well, and maybe combining the two ... such as Tamiya turret and Italeri Hull etc ...

but apart from that, its some more stuff to get yet ... jerry cans and aussie piches/bags etc

then its scratch building the camo. system Sad [:(]

thanks again !

I've been subscribing to Model Art Australia for a year now, was buying it on and off when it was known as Australian Plastic Modeller (I think that was the name).

Glad you are keeping count, I lost it a few pages back for both the group build and the number of Aussie modellers. The deadline is October.

As for the sticky post, still awaiting for a reply from David Voss, I think that he is away at present.

Hello to all my fellow Aussies here on FSM. I am coming back to modelling after a break of around 20 odd years. Back in the dim dark ages I did mostly military vehicles (mainly Tamiya) with a spattering of aircraft thrown in.

I have just purchased two Academy kits - a 1/72 PBY-5 Catalina and a 1/48 P-38 Lightning. I am going to start the Lightning first this weekend and I am looking forward to it. I have also just purchased a Badger 155 Anthem airbrush which is yet to arrive from the States. I have never used one before so I am in for a bit of learning.

What would be your recommendation on good Oz outlets to purchase PE parts and True Details items - I know everyone will have their favorites but is there a definitive supplier in Oz of all things good as far as our hobby goes? I will be looking for a cheap compressor for the Badger - any suggestions?Confused [%-)]

Thanks in advance.

Bob

Bob, Firstorm is one possible supplier of detail items although I think he mainly deals in armour detail items his website is http://members.ozemail.com.au~firestorm

There are also a few links to suppliers that might be able to help you on the ACTSMS website at http://www.actsms.asn.au

In regards to a compressor check out Kmart, Bunnings, Repco or your local Hardwarestore, they usually have lowcost industral type compressors complete with a tank for around the $100 mark, they may be a little big bigger than most hobby types but they they are more economical. Dont forget to get a pressure regulator / moisture trap for it.

Re Penrith hobby shops:-
The one that you spoke about is now in St.Marys in the main street. There is a new one in High St Penrith western end I think) and there is Kim at the Signal Box in Blaxland Off the Highway upstairs in the shops accross the road from the pub.

Agreed. Lest we forget.

I got my Australian Lighthorse figure for this build the other day. I am making it for my Dad to represent his Dad, Frank, who was in the 10th Lighthorse. His older brother was KIA over there and is buried at the Kantara War memorial cemetery in Egypt. My Uncle tells me it is surrounded by Eucalyptus trees, which are maintained by the locals.
