Hey J.S., I sympathise, after the house is asleep, thats when I try and do most of my modelling too.
My lad turns 7 months on Friday, It's a pain, but I figure I can play catch up when he is old enough to go to school

On ANZAC Day my family gets together and remembers our ancestors that have fallen, seeing as I'm one of the first generation Australians, (family are refugees from Europe), we don't have any Australians to remember as such, but we lay a wreath for them anyway, as will my son in time to come.

tweety1 my boy turns 3 today and i can tell you that your son is going to love playing with your models and helping you when your building,it can be a real pain but hey they just want to do what dad does.
[PS]make sure your display cabinet has locks on the doors before he learns to walk,i learned that the hard way.

Try buying some cheap click together models for youngsters to keep him occupied while you are modelling. Then he is making his own models at the same time. Has all kinds of benefits, including showing the other half that you are involving him in your hobbies so he isn't snapping at her heels all day!!

J.S., I can't wait for him to be old enough to sit next to me and have a go. I just hope he enjoys it enough to be part of the next generation of modellers. As for the cabinet, already designed it. Lexcen doors with twin locks so no stray toys can be thrown at it and break them, and recessed into the wood so no little fingers can get in there to pry it open

Chris, his grandad has already got him a snap together f-18, so I'm not sure who wants this more, me or his grandad
I even went and bought a tiny hobby desk for him. Mine is about 1 metre high so no toddlers can grab stuff, so it looks weird, 1 big bench, and what looks like a foot stool next to it

Thanks Dai, use to frequent the shop for years during my times based in Penrith area, got friendly with Ian, even lost a model on display in his shop when it caught fire, (that was shop he had across from the ATO) always use to visit when in the Penrith area. Have visited Signal Box during my model railway days.

ANZAC Day
As a retired serviceman Im glad to see that there are people out there who are still keeping the ANZAC spirit alive by passing the significance of this day on to the next generation. Lest We Forget.

But alas, these days more and more parents are not teaching their children the meaning of ANZAC day, or the importance of such a thing.

For instance, on Rememberance Day, I have to tell the youngin's at work to pull their heads in and shut the hell up for a minute. They don't even know what it's for

I feel it is a parents responsibility to make sure our children understand what has been given by others.

Penrith Hobby Shops
The one in High St isn't. It's in and unknown street!! I'll give you the directions as given to me by a Chief Engineer.......Yer turn inta Batt Street and go on to th hurdy-gerdy and turn left an' it's in the first blocka shops on the left.
Now I think that should be ...From Mulgoa Rd turn into Batt St go as far as the Roundabout (Jammison st?) turn left and it is in the first block of shops on left.
I dont think that there are any shops on the right hand side of Jammison St only a park.
I have got to go down tomorrow and will check it out.

tweety1 i have to agree with your last post mate it is up to us parents to teach our kids the meaning of ANZAC day,it seems to me that the young ones in this country think that ANZAC day is all about the Gallipoli campaign and i can understand why they think that but in reality its to honour all servicemen and women past and present.
Oh yeah i ended up popping a couple of screws into the back of my cabinet doors so nobody can get into it without a cordless drill.
Chris i did buy my son a couple of those $5 snap together screw together sky pilots kits from KMart there good and strong about 1/72 scale not totally accurate but he loves them.

Started another project last night Spitfire mk1 Battle of Britain i was going to do Douglas Baders seeing as though the decals for his spit came with the kit but have decided to do Paterson Clarence Hughes an Australian ace killed during the height of the Battle spitfire no x4009 thats all ihave at the moment so i need to do some research.
Ithink this group build has put me on an Aussie building binge [oh well]

I am still leaning towards the CAC Sabre, but I just found out tonight that the F4 Phantom was part of the Aussie airforce for around 6 months or so, some sort of political stuff up or something.
I heard this second hand, so maybe some of the recent retirees may be able to correct me.South Aussie

Yeah tweety1 Phantoms were used for a while as a stop gap while the RAAF were waiting for the F111 2 squadrons i think and also they had the sharper longer nose not the elegant nose of the earlier F4 Phantoms.
I had a book called Canberra,Phantom and F111 in Australian service,its a part of a whole series and i still have Meteor,Sabre and Mirage in Australian service,its a great book with plenty of pics from all units that operated them.

they were an F4E Phantom ... look on the RAAF website, then co to interactive, and then desk top backgrounds, they have a phantom in there ... they kept thier american serial numbers too i think ...

tweety1 the shiny one would be the cac sabre ive got the book up in the shed[somewhere]but there are some great pics of a restored to airworthy sabre still flown by the RAAF at shows and its the best looking sabre ive ever seen,natural metal finish with markings from the black diamonds aerobatic team.

Chris sorry mate no books on boomerangs only a couple of plates from an old aeromasters catalouge.

[ps] TWEETY1 willgo up and brave the shed tommorow and grab the book,by the way i bought it from a newsagent in Fortitude valley Brisbane but i still see them kicking around in other newsagents.I will post the ISBN no and the Publisher on this thread.

No go on the book i just tore the shed apart and couldnt find it [typical] it was one of a whole series of books so im going to hunt around newsagents and bookstores for another copy as well as the one on spitfires and kittyhawks.

Ok guys i found these books on the net theyre the Australian air power series and you can buy them online from www.ausaviation.com.au i didnt see the sabre book but they have most of the series including the boomerang.

ok lads - it's time to get serious about this Aussie Grp Bld. Most of you guys have seen other dudes with "Group Build Badges/Logos" that they attach to their signature that assoicates their participation in various group builds. Examples (for those who dont know what I'm talking about) are:



Since my arm is still in a sling and I cant do any models yet, I have taken the liberty of designing our own logo. Here it is:



Please note that this is NOT the final logo!!!! I would like all of us to agree if they want this one, something like this or another logo. I want a picture that covers all Australian subjects from all eras, and I thought the "Australian Made" logo was best seeing only Aussies & adopted Aussies can particapte - and I think it stands out pretty well against the others .

I've toyed with ideas such as:
1 - the aussie flag embedded within a shoulette of the Aust Continent.
2 - the aussie defence force red-roo logo
3 - flying aussie flags.

Please state your opinion if you like the one above, or you can nominate another. If you would like something but cant design it, I'm pretty good with computer design graphics and can surely help.

What do ya boys think?

ps - I've uploaded these pics in a "temporary" file from a bloke called RonUSMC (@ FSM who allows pic posting) - these pics will disappear (when - I dont know?) when he allocates them a certain file, and therefore changes the web directory. So if they disappear, I'll find them again and repost with their new directory address. So plz be patient if this happens sooner than we expect!

Great idea luke and that logo you've come up with nails it for me!. The Kangaroo is an unmistakable symbol.
