The Aus Made tag is the clincher.

*cough* copyright breach *cough*

One question, how did you manage to post the pics in your post.
I know how to get the sig, but in the post itself, I have no idea!

ok - thanks for the comments so far guys!!Cool [8D]

ILuv3ggs - I assume once everyones seen it and agreed on it, then we can use it (personally I'm itching to use it use myself Big Smile [:D])

tweety - posting images in the signature is the same as in posts. Use the picture-insert icon or type and just insert the picture hyperlink as you do with photos. I'll allow you to do it with our GB piccy Smile [:)]. For thos who dont know how to insert pics, I'll explain it for y'all!

Example
Step 1: type
Step2: right mouse click on the pic, select properties, and copy the Address URL in full like with any other pic!
Step3: insert this URL address inbetween the with no spaces between the brackets & the address.
Step4: Wollah . . .

I though last nite being West Australian, I should have put EB for Emu Bitter instead of GB for 'Group Build'. But after a hard days modelling, You need a big cold beer, And the best cold beer is Vic . . . Victoria Bitter. So I should put "Aussie VB" in there instead Tongue [:P]!

Hello again fellow Aussie modellers.

I put up a post in the airbrush/painting section but got no response so I thought I would try here.

I am currently using Tamiya spray can primer for my aircraft - but at $10.00 a can they are getting a bit expensive. Can anyone recommend a good primer that is cheaper and in a larger can and is readily available in Oz?

Thanks for your help.
Regards, Bob

[:0]Bob are we supposed to prime before we paint i didnt know that i just start with the lightest colour first and go from there seams dont seem to be a problem. But if i was to prime a model i would use an acrylic light grey and run it through my airbrush.[:0]

Hello J.S.

Thanks for your reply - I will try my next model without priming and see how it goes.

I bought a bottle of Pledge One Go from Woolworths here on the Gold Coast so I would assume they would have it in Brisbane as well.

Modelmart mag - in a word - crap!

Bob

The PE stands for Photo EtchedSmile [:)]

Actually I might just make them OOB, just for something different.
Besides, you can't improve on Aussie Made. Naturally it's the best!Big Smile [:D]

HI rob, welcome.

As for the ModelArt mag, it was a little boring.

There has to be more material out there that can be accesed to give it more staying power.

Maybe more reader input etc?

Ah well, at least there is always Finescale to fall back onBig Smile [:D]

Lobbie i just left you a post in the welcome introduce yourself thread telling you about this little corner of Oz but i see you have found us already. If you are interested South Aussie organised an all Aussie group build with an Oct finish.

Thanks Bob will try Woolworths, just one Question ok 2, do you use it instead of gloss clear or just for dipping canopies, and if you airbrush it do you thin it.

tweety1now your trying to confuse me OOB im guessing that means out of box, maybe just add some PE seat belts thats all i do on good kits like Tamiya or Hasegawa oh and some fuse wire brake lines on the struts.Just out of curiosity does anyone make the cac sabre because they were differant from the F86 in engine and guns. I wouldnt mind making a 76th sqd sabre "black panthers" but the NMF worries me a little never done it before.

Since my arm is still in a sling and I cant do any models yet, I have taken the liberty of designing our own logo. Here it is:

Please note that this is NOT the final logo!!!! I would like all of us to agree if they want this one, something like this or another logo. I want a picture that covers all Australian subjects from all eras, and I thought the "Australian Made" logo was best seeing only Aussies & adopted Aussies can particapte - and I think it stands out pretty well against the others Big Smile [:D].

I've toyed with ideas such as:
1 - the aussie flag embedded within a shoulette of the Aust Continent.
2 - the aussie defence force red-roo logo
3 - flying aussie flags.

Please state your opinion if you like the one above, or you can nominate another. If you would like something but cant design it, I'm pretty good with computer design graphics and can surely help.

What do ya boys think?

ps - I've uploaded these pics in a "temporary" file from a bloke called RonUSMC (@ FSM who allows pic posting) - these pics will disappear (when - I dont know?) when he allocates them a certain file, and therefor changes the web directory. So if they disappear, I'll find them again and repost with their new directory address. So plz be patient if this happens sooner than we expect!

Luke,
Have no problem with your design, was thinking that a group build badge would be a good idea but Banged Head [banghead]my limited computer skillsBanged Head [banghead] stopped me in my tracks. Quite happy to let you run with this.

Bob, I've got to agree with you about the cost, the alternative I use is Humbrol No1, this primer is supplied the same in way as their normal paints, I usually air brush it on although it can be hand painted on.

As for the use of a Primer it does help the paint adhere to the models better especially if you have metal or resin parts.

Now that I have caught up with the posts that have been posted since my last visit, an update on the group build, still haven't heard back for David(maybee the original email went astray, so sometime over this weekend I'll set up the group build thread, post it on the board, then try again to make it a sticky.

Must argee with some that the lastest Modelart mag was not that interesting.

Smile [:)]j.s., me confuse you, I would never do such a thingWink [;)]Big Smile [:D]

Yes, OOB means just that, out of boxApprove [^]

And yes, making the Sabre is all about the difference between it and the F-86.
Better engine was it's largest assest.
The F-86 was a fine craft, but compared to the CAC version, it was as slow as a slug.

As for NMF, its not as hard as they make it out to be, in my opinion.
All depends on what type you choose.
I prefer the Alclad II system, and the hardest part about this was sanding the gloss black coat shiny smooth, in prep for the final coat.
My P-38 looks beautiful.Big Smile [:D]

G'day Folk's,

Add my entry to the group build, it's the 48 scale aircraft, of the 'Lone Aussie Hurricane' my subject is my second model which is in the 4th scheme of it's service life being Bare Metal / Aluminium Dope. Strange history relates to this aircraft, it's still here in Victoria.

On the Aussie Phantom's, we had 24 on lease from Sept 1970 to Sept 1973, they were part of 82 wing and served with both 1 and 6 Sqn's, they were to have the prefix 'A69' but they retained their USAF serial number's, 69-0304/0307,7201-7217,7219/7220.7234 all the RAAF did was add in white the last 2 digits of the US serial. eg 90305 was simply 05. The cammo was the SEA scheme of the time.

Glad to be of help.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for filling in the gaps Lobbie on the Phatom's, my major recollection of the Phatom's was when one dropped out of sky above me without noise, then hit full afterburner and climbed back to the sky from were it came from, why does still remain in my mind after all this time, well I was working up an antenna tower in the middle of the airfield at RAAF Laverton at the time which virbated in tune with his afterburners.

South Aussie i dont think i could forget a Phantom doing that above me either i get exited when i see an F111 flying over the house.
Come to think of it During last years riverfire festival here in Bris i was sitting at home watching the festival on TV when one roared over our house at low level 10 seconds later i watched the same F111 perform its dump and burn over the city on TV.
20 Ks in 10 sec i think he might have been speeding a little.

The Avon Sabre is made buy High Planes models, and goes for around $50 Aussie.
Basically it's the same as the conversion kit they made for the Academy F-86, but that one was a mongrel to do, so they boxed it all up and sell it as one package.

From what I hear, it's a touch scruffy mould wise, but otherwise ok.
Guess I'll find out if it ever gets hereConfused [%-)]

As for the Black Undercoat, the Alclad system runs in 3 stages.
Grey primer coat first, then 24-48 hours drying time, then a light sand with fine paper.
Then black undercoat, 24-48 hours drying time, nice smooth sanding with ultra fine paper. You want it to be silky and shiny smooth otherwise it ruins the final coat.
Lastly, your BMF of your choice.

If you live in humid conditions, extned the drying time by a few days, otherwise the BMF will crack as it dries, and look really shabby.

The Sabre was finished in an Aluminium tone, was it not??
Cause it wasn't all that shiny, so I figure a general aluminium coat would do it.
