ILuv3ggs, I think the number you're looking for is CA-15. The 18 was the licence built Mustangs

In the queue: 1/48 Beech Staggerwing (RAAF), P38 (RAAF), Vultee Vengeance (RAAF), Spitfire Vb (Malta), Spitfire VIII x2 (RAAF), P39 x2 (RAAF), Martin Baltimore (Malta?), Martin Maryland (Malta), Typhoon NF1b, Hellcat x2 (FAA)

Guy's,

I've gone threw my stacks of RAAF decals, all I could find on the CAC Sabre are for the Prototype, anyone doing the Aussie A 4g Skyhawk for the G.B I found the 48 sheet for it.
Covers 3x single seat aircraft one in the wrap around Agressor, the other 2 are the Grey/White, with the Red/White check tail, or the Grey/white with the Red/White check rudder and a two seater with the Blue/Yellow check tail.

Folk's,

The REDROO RAAF Mustangs, are a P51d of 82 Sqn A68-766 Japan 1948, the other is a P51k of 84 Sqn A68-565 [sevice life just over a month], the 84 Sqn aircraft had over sized roundals.

The RAAF 22 Sqn Boston III of DU-Q A28-15 shown in the Aussie Decals scan that was posted shows the aircraft as a A20c Boston III, where in fact it is an A20a Boston III. This aircraft was photograph so often with 'Bill' Newton and his crew, standing near it, which is claimed by some decal manufacturuer's to be his aircraft. No pilot in 22 Sqn RAAF had an assigned aircraft, they flew what ever was serviceable and available for each mission. 'Bill' Newton in March 1943 prior to his capture flew, A28-11, A28-6 code 'G' this aircraft had the artwork 'Japanese Ghost Producer' on the nose, A28-7 code 'H' and A28-16. A28-3 is the aircraft he flew on the mision of his capture, from being shot down.

Hope this is of some help

That Airfix Boomerang is definitely showing its age. However, Special Hobby are supposed to be bringing out a 1/72 Boomerang soon. I suggest you wait for that instead of beating your brains out over the Airfix one. I managed to get my hands on a couple of 1/48 LTD ones, and there are the Tasman 1/48 ones too if you can get them, but I think they are resin. Someone also did a vacform 1/32 one, but I can't remember who

Hey Chris, I saw a couple of those Airfix 1/72 reissued CAC Boomerangs in the LHS the other day for about $12. I have never built one but I guess that kit would be fairly dodgey? Wouldn't it be good if the world was perfect and Tamiya released one!

STOP!!!!

I beg of you.

Talk about getting dizzy.

Now the next 6 months of modelling have been thrown out the window.
Hmm, Imagine a collection of models, all with the RAAF etc emblems on em, and not a US star to be found.

Mind you, finding decals for all these craft would be a challenge, let alone accurate research.

Ah, thanks for the info help Chris and Snowy.Big Smile [:D]

It seems to me that the further I research Australian craft, the better it getsBig Smile [:D]

Craft that I had no idea existed, Sabre, Phantom, and now the Mustang.

It is no surprise really, considering the upteen models produced to resemble American, British, German and Japanese craft, picking your way through the listings looking for Aussie stuff takes alot of time.
Then there's the research to make sure what you make actually resembles what it's 'spose to be.

Ah well, come July, I'll order my Sabre, and maybe the Mustang also, money and all that,Sad [:(].
I'll have finished my Corsair by then, so full steam ahead for the GBBig Smile [:D]

Tweety and Chris, Ive got the Red roo decal set for a P51D of 3sqdn based in Italy in 1945. They came with a photo of the plane, it looks great with the camo paint and the Southern Cross painted on the rudder. I also picked up Gary Byke's "Modellers guide to the RAAF Mustang", it's a great reference. I can't wait to start on it but there's a P47 hogging all my bench space at the moment. Seems like I've been decalling this P47 forever, there's a million stencils on it!

Yep, there were Australian licence built Mustangs. I was speaking to a guy who works at the Army Air Museum at Oakey, and he was telling me that at the end of the war there were loads of American built Mustangs still in their crates at Oakey, and they were simply scrapped while they continued to build Mustangs under licence in order to protect aircraft industry jobs. Apparently they didn't even take them out of the crates. They just burned the crates from around them because it was easier that way. Red Roo do markings for an Aussie built Mustang of 78 Sqn, and also for one in civilian colours circa 1962-3.

In the queue: 1/48 Beech Staggerwing (RAAF), P38 (RAAF), Vultee Vengeance (RAAF), Spitfire Vb (Malta), Spitfire VIII x2 (RAAF), P39 x2 (RAAF), Martin Baltimore (Malta?), Martin Maryland (Malta), Typhoon NF1b, Hellcat x2 (FAA)

Thanks for the info South, I'll check em out.

j.s., I can't see a Sabre in anything other than NMF, just wouldn't do it justice imho.

Could you post a pic of the Highplanes kit, and decals?

I'm tossing up between the High Planes model, or using the F-86 and purchasing the upgrade kit to suit the Avon. For the hell of it you see.

j.s. that mesh runway is called Pierced Steel Plating or PSP. Go to www.verlinden-productions.com and do a search using the number 1736 then click on the link that comes up. hopefully that is the kind of thing your looking for. For a simpler version try the number 0884 in your search. As far as getting it locally you might try Frontline Hobbies but I couldn't find it on thier site and if they have to order it in you will wait a looooong time. In that case you may be better off just ordering it from Squadron or even Verlinden themselves. Hope this helps.

Question [?]I'm hoping you guys can help me with this one,i have a b/w photo of Bluey Truscott taxying his P 40 on what appears to be that mesh runway that the Americans came up with for the Pacific theater.
Now i remember seeing an add for Verlinden in FSM magazine that showed the same runway mesh but i can't seem to find it ,my LHS only stocks whats new.
So the question is do any of you Blokes no where i can get some here in Oz.Question [?]

My highplanes CAC Sabre arrived today,it's just as well that i'm not making it for the GB cause she looks fairly labour intensive.
It came with the markings for 3 SQD,76 SQD and 2nd OCU [marksmen]as well as 2 different Sabres of the RMAF.
But i still wouldn't mind doing the Black Diamonds Sabre.
Looks like your right tweety Sabre's get into your blood[well the CAC Sabre does]I'm so temted to shelf my other projects and start it now but if theres going to be a Sabre GB i'll save it for that.
[PS] If our American friends are reluctant to do a Sabre GB because of the NMF i have a plate showing a F86 of the Korean war 48-261 painted Olive Drab.
[PS] Canadian Sabres wore a 2 tone camo scheme as well.
