You got yourself some great kits there Gamera!  Even though the Sherman kit is a bit old, you can never go wrong with the fit and quality of a Tamiya kit.  I feel your pain with achieving the glossy coats on car models.  I tend to weather most of my truck and car models and if I do achieve a glossy finish, it fades when I compare it with the true car guys' kits.  Definitely excited to see you build the Alita kit.  My son and I saw this movie at the theater and I thought that it was a great movie!  Happy holidays Gamera!

Stuff I picked up at our IPMS Christmas party last week:

I know the Tamiya kit is a little off compared to some of the newer ones but I've never built a 105mm howitzer version of the M4. Yeah, I've built a dozen Shermans but all the 75mm and 76mm gun tanks. So I'm still excited!

Our club now has more 'car guys' than all the 'military guys' (aircraft+armour+ships) put together. So I really do need to finally build an auto model. I still haven't gotten the trick of gloss coats completely down yet. I did buy a bottle of Mopar 'Plum Crazy' for her. Haven't painted anything purple in years so again I'm excited!

And this I ordered for myself. I'm getting on a bit of kick with female cyborgs. Probably a bit hard to see but it's a really nice 1/12th scale model of Alita from the live action version of 'Alita: Battle Angel'.

Here are some more items I just got today for upgrading my 1/32 F-100. The kit has a wonderful engine assembly and stand that I want to keep out and show, so the exhaust nozzle set was a must. The kit did not come with a figure either so its purchase was a no brainer.

A different F1 car, the Aoshima Ogre AN-21.

Neato!  I wonder why it is called the Aoi Ogre?  Aoi in Japanese can mean blue or green.  I guess murasaki (purple) ogre does not roll off the tongue?

Great pre-Christmas additions guys!!!

Love the F7F Joe, beautiful plane- shame it didn't make more of a mark on history.

Very cool racer Pat, love the SF look!

Ben, very cool stuff there too- love the flesh tone paint set. Painting figures is one of the most rewarding and frustrating parts of the hobby.

WOW Pat, that is something different, and I like it lots. Are you building it OOB or are you going to change sponsors, colors, etc?

If you don't mind, could you do a build string on this one?

Sme very nice stash building going on here.

Cliff: Those are some sharp looking figures. They sure lend themselves to some nice alternatives.

Aggie: Well done. Anytime you add a Corsair it is a very good day.

John: Sweet score on the chopper. Excellent subject

Pat: Whoa! Now that is a very cool concept. I like it a lot.

I won this unexpected F7F st auction. Excited to add a half decent F7F in 1/72. Appears to be a rather nice multi media kit.

Big fan of the Bo-105 chopper.  Did the German military version ages ago (PAH). I picked up this 1981 still in shrink wrap rescue version for pretty cheap.

Original price tag shows 6.49  Surprise

Thanks,

John

That's pretty wild looking Pat.  Back to the 6 wheeler design i see, must have solved the wear and braking issues :)

Thanks,

John

Aggieman & Gamera, those are some great acquisitions!

Well, I found another of those rare good price deals on eBay with this one. About $10 plus standard priority mail shipping. It’s an Italeri rebox of the old ESCI T-55 kit, plus it includes the turret top dome armored fan cover to make a T-54/Type-59 tank. For that price, I’m not complaining.

Now I just need to decide on a paint & marking scheme. Right now it’s a toss up between Syrian in 1973 or Soviet in 1968. Decisions, decisions…

Gamera

I did pick up some nice figures from AliExpress.

Two sets of US Vietnam era tankers- the M103 I bought them for had a five man crew so the two sets work out well. The lower set seem to be poking at a mine- which doesn't seem like a very good idea to me. I'm going to retrofit them into looking at a second vehicle stuck in the mud.

I think the guy kneeling accidently dropped his screwdriver down a fuel filler hatch!

And a set of British Second World War tankers. I've got a series of British tanks. Not sure which I'll use just them for yet.

Aggieman & Ferg: Those are some choice additions! Hobbycraft was a little Spartan on detail but the few I built did have good fit.

Pat: Now that's a set of tires!

A few more additions to the stash.

I recently did a couple of old Hobby Craft kits that, while not Tamiya quality, went together easily, were of decent detail and look great on the shelf.  Kitlinx had a sale of someone's acquired stash, and I picked out these two - a P-40B (like I really needed another one of those) and a birdcage Corsair.

I returned to this hobby after a high school + college + first few years of professional life break in 1995.  That Hobby Craft P-40 boxart was appealing, and I very nearly picked up that kit (newish at the time) but for some reason never did.  Was happy to see it included in this sale, and was quite surprised when I opened both of these Hobby Craft kits in that the P-40 included decal sets for each AVG squadron, and the Corsair included a set of resin tires.

I am currently building a Dora Wings kit, the P-43A Lancer.  I had long had my eyes on their P-63 King Cobra, and more recently discovered this French aircraft of which I know absolutely nothing.

And finally, I have been a fan of Star Wars since I first saw the first movie in June 1977. I saw each of the movies starting with Return of the Jedi on opening night, and I built all of the original release of MPC kits in the summer of '78.  I recently did a Revell Republic Star Destroyer, outfitting it with lights and was fairly impressed with the result, but it was a major undertaking that I'm thinking I'd like to avoid.  There was a larger scale kit that Zvezda/Revell has, but I've built a few Bandai kits and have found them to be just about perfect.  This one came with a lighting kit, although the instructions are a dizzying array of "Holy Moly, how am I going to deal with all of this?!!!!"

I've bought some 3D wheels/tyres with chunky treads for an upcoming rally car build. They included the brake disks which I have already started painting.

Just made arrangements to pick up a 1/32 Minicraft/Hasegawa F-18.  From an estate of a club member.  According to Scalemates, a 1979 release, so......

Nice!

CN: The Mig-21 and Jeep are some choice picks. That Jeep is as cool as can be.

Dodgy: Wonderful additions my friend. The Sea Fury is a sweet subject and kit. I do hope that acquiring these brought you peace of mind.

C, nice find, never even heard of that version in either model or 1:1.

Oh that's cool CN. Some many schemes you can do with the MiG-21!

GH, thanks! The tank is pretty anglular with not a lot of curved surfaces. I'll have to see when I pull the tank back out. Cutting tape would probably work better though.
