OMG I finally have one:
I have been waiting for a long time to get a modern kit of the "tin triangle". I did pick up the old kit a number of years ago, and have seen some terrific builds of it. But after looking at the thick trailing edges, laughable exhausts, and soft detail, I wanted something better. And even longer ago, I attempted to build the Nova vac-form kit. I had ZERO vac-form experience, and was only in middle school, but I was able to get the airframe together. Looking back, it was a pretty good kit, but my lack of skills doomed the project.
So at long last, Airfix has finally completed the triad of V-Bombers! Hurrah!
I was able to see two operational Vulcans up close back in the 1970-1980 era, at Hickan AFB during two open houses. Interestingly, both were parked away from the other display aircraft, and they did not attract much attention from the other visitors. I wonder what the AF personnel thought about a 14 year old kid wandering around all by himself, looking like he found a Vulcan made of solid chocolate! I only had a Kodak Instamatic camera both times, and so got off only a few pictures. I'll need to dig them up, as I remember taking pics of the second Vulcan's serial number and fin markings. I so wish I could travel back in time with my iPhone!
