Apologies to Tojo if I'm derailing his thread with food but the lobster sushi is in the middle.

I probably won't be ordering it again. Too expensive and I don't really like crunchy sushi. At least it wasn't alive when I ate it. You have a stronger stomach than I G, eating a critter still alive would have put off my appetite.

The HAL-X10 is really cool! Somehow I like multi-legged mechs much better than the standard humanoid models. They just seem like they'd be way more stable to me.

Gamera,

You might be right about lobster sushi, as I had a mind-fart.  The poor lobster that was forced to watch as we ate his tail was actually served up as sashimi - just slices of raw lobster served on its now empty tail shell.  It was kind of gruesome if you think about it, like some horror movie where the victim is forced to watch as the cannibal captor dines on bits of the victim's flesh.

So what was YOUR lobster sushi like?  I have never seen lobster offered on sushi rice, but confess to knowing little about the actual range of sushi.  I do know about sea urchin, allegedly a delicacy in Japan.  It looks like orange colored snot collected from a tidepool, and smells and tastes like it!  I can't help but wonder if it is just some prank the sushi experts have played on us all these years!

On the subject of crusteaceans, the Crab-Man High Leg has a distant army relative, the HAL X-10:

I was surprised that the Crab-Man was much smaller than the hulking X-10.

Ahh, I see what you mean G. I don't think I want to eat anything still alive and watching me. I just assumed the lobster sushi was some weird American concoction that the Japanese would be horrified by.

Those are some awesome looking mechs. I love the logging machine. You don't see enough civilian heavy equipment like that.

Last week I got more robots from Japan.

A Full Armor Gundam, a recent rendition from the old MSV (Mobile Suit Variation) series:

A Barzam, redesigned for the Advance of Zeta series (manga only, no anime as of yet):

A pair of MaK Kusters in standard military scale:

And finally, a wacky looking logging machine from Patlabor:

Gamera

And thanks G! I had lobster sushi * and my mom brought me a homemade chocolate pie. Oh yeah!!!!

* I'm guessing in Japan lobster sushi would probably like the California roll be considered an abomination. Still it tastes good to me.

Well... If the lobster was watching you eat his tail as he slowly died, that would be authentic "ikizukuri sushi", an experience I do not wish to repeat.  Being raw, it tasted like bait.  Poor lobster, his antennas slowly lowered as he expired.  At least the venison "sashi-meat" I tried was already dead, so we didn't have to watch poor Bambi die.  That tasted like...raw meat.  I'll stick with the dark red tuna (maguro).

BTW, I like California roll too, so no shame!  I also love chocolate pie!  Mmmmmmm....

Nope, never enough Tigers! Very true Tojo!

Very cool add Chops! I love the modern stuff like that but I've got so much WWII and Korean War stuff the last thing I need is to get into modern AFVs too! But I hope when you get her built you'll post her in the armour forum so we can see how she came out.

Ah krap John, sorry I missed your post- beleted Happy Birthday! Nice haul!

My birthday was today so I picked out something for myself. Not a big fan of German armour but the Tiger I is classic and I haven't built one since the early '90s so I figured I ready to build another after about thirty years. Plus I have a great little set of Russian figures examining a knocked out Tiger...

Those Tamiya F-16s are supposed to be terrific to build OOB. I wish I had them all, especially the 1/32 scales!

That Academy A-10 is new tool and it makes a very good & detailed build. There are a couple of build videos on YouTube that show it unfortunately has a few unwelcome tricks though during assembly. It looks like Tamiya's ancient Warthog still remains the easiest & least troublesome build out of all the A-10 kits available today.

Older Monogram midget racer with Valvoline oil sponsorship for the multi time world champion Steve Kinser. This will beg for detailing. Not bad for $6.50

Image

Some figures for my current 1/24 steam locomotive build (came pre-painted with the google eyes and crappy paint job). Jarrod and I will fix all that. Here they are after some modifications.

Metal parts for the current train build.

And for the up coming helicopter build, here are some extras.

Stole this one on Amazon of all places.  I read a great review of this kit and followed a recent build thread.  I've always loved the 240Z - buddy of mine in high school had one.  Back then there were three of us that hung out and it was rock paper scissor to decide who got shotgun.  Third dude had to curl up behind the seats under the glass.... not fun after a night of drinking lol.   Anyhow this kit goes for $55 and I saw it 'used' on Amazon for $21 with free shipping (Amazon Prime).  I was curious and took the risk because of the subject and reviews.  Showed up today and all the parts are factory sealed in their original bags.  Amazed - I will hunt for 'used' kits on Amazon!

Thanks,

John

Last night was our IPMS Chapter swap meet. I took several kits to sell, but there was no interest for my offerings. But I did find this classic. I think between the new Tamiya F-4B, and the not quite as recent Academy F-4B kits, these ones were bound to show up at kit swap meets for now bargain prices…

Finally I have a 1/48 F-4B for my collection!

F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!

U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!

N is for NO SURVIVORS...

Just delivered from ebay. These are some of my most popular kits as they are easy to build and come in various styles or enable conversion. The date on the box is 1975 and the price sticker was £1.35!

What a great kit from our youth.  The rotating ball turret and when you opened the bomb bay doors the torpedo dropped out!  Parents would buy it for you on Friday night at Woolworths and by Saturday afternoon you were "playing" with it with your friends.  What fun back then when you didn't count rivets or worry about super accuracy.

Aggieman

Well I blew my modeling budget for the next few months.

I've picked up a bunch of old Monogram kits from eBay and Kitlinx, all of which I built several times as a kid.  And honestly, I think I bought these to add to my boxart collection and to have kits for my new grandson, due in October, to build when he gets old enough.

Yeah, I way over-spent on kits.  So no more posts from me for a while (as I eyeball a couple of ICM kits coming some time this year, a Sally and a Marauder).Crying

I have a distinct memory from childhood of this great venerable kit. A friend of mine had it and built it. It met the horrible fate typical of models in the possession of eleven-year old boys with too much energy & too limited of an intelligence who also happen to have access to firecrackers. It was a shame because the kid who built/nuked it actually did a fairly good job on it for someone that age. It annoyed me greatly as I'd already become a WW2 buff by that age, and ruining one of the better kits of the era in such a stupid way just seemed so wrong. Angry
