I am continuing to enjoy seeing what everyone is adding to their stash. I'm seeing some really interesting stuff that definitely gets my attention. I have to admit I'm also into the Airfix kits. Now, I just need to build one. Lol!

Stik: I'm looking forward to seeing some of your builds with all the ground support additions. You've certainly collected quite a load of potential.

Last week the wife and I made our annual summer trip to Grand Junction, Co. for her annual physical. This, of course, meant I got to spend a couple of hours at The Hobby Hut. What I consider my LHS. Been going there since I was about 10 yrs old. Great family store that is going strong. I always make it a point to pick up at least one kit while there. This time I found a beauty that I could not resist:

I do not normally build in 1/32 but, this was a must have. As some of you may know, Pacific Coast Models has gone out of business. So, to not only find one of their kits, let alone the Fiat G.55, excited the daylights out of me. I think the G.55 is one of the sharpest looking fghters of WW II. I dropped some healthy coin for this but, it was well worth it. I might be kicking myself for not getting the Ta 152 H-1 also. I already have their Macchi C.205 Folgore.

While talking to Chris, owner of Thr Hobby Hut, he informed me that upon hearing the news of Pacific Coast closing up shop he called the founder of P.C. and purchased all available kits that he had left. Also, he asked Ken (Founder of P.C.) what was going to happen to his molds. He told Chris that there was no immediate plans but, that some companies had expressed interest. But, for now, they remain his. We figured that Eduard would be a likely candidate to grab these as they already made the PE sets for them. It would be an absolute crime for someone to not buy these molds and repop them.

I've also picked a few other kits recently. One especially became a bit unique. The Tamiya 1/700 USS Indianapolis arrived just the other day and then the very next day came the press release that the wreckage of the Indianapolis had been discovered. Wow! Couldn't be more ironic. I won that for $6.00 on a FB auction. The 1/72 A-26 had been on my radar as well as the Gripen. Figured I'll do a comparison between Revell & Italeri.

Keep the new additions coming folks. Never get tired of checking out what folks are finding and adding.

And here's 2 more. I saw the Bar on the AM website and just could resist. This thing looks a real beast.

And i first saw the Sd.Kfz 254 years ago in the Bruce Quarrie book 'Panzers in the desert'', which i stil have. Ever since i have wanted a kit of one. Hobby Boss released this a few years ago but i seem to have missed it. Found it a few months back, so this was a must buy.

I'll deffinetly be doing this in DAK colours.

That will be nice to see. I think the East African campaign is almost forgotten about, so wil be good to see it brought to light.

No worries. I had to check myself. The army only begain useing berets at the end of WW1 and even in WW2 some units were still introducing it. So makes sense that the RAf didn't have it in wide spread use.

The Airfix bug really has goten hold. Nice pair there.

 

Thank you for that help! Your knowledge of British uniforms and equipment (and knowing where to look if you don't know it offhand) is certainly a plus for us Anglophiles. And yes the Airfix bug is pretty strong right now... I think those two will be a fun pair to do. The East Africa campaign stuff is very seldom seen modeled, and I do so love that aspect of the Fury.

Well yesterday at the LHS Airfix contest, in addition to the certificates of placement for awards, there were also prizes of store credit. In my case 3rd place was good for $10. I sure could not let that go to waste, and I had a few more dollars in my wallet to cover the difference so... I had been eyeballing this older kit on the shelf... I knew very little about the aircraft itself, but I'd do fly in combat with the South African Air Force against the Italians during the fighting there in 1941, so I figured why not?

and then around the same time that I had bought my 109F years ago, I had bought one of these to make a nice pair of opponents. But I later gave that kit to my son when he wanted something to build, which he started but never quite finished.  And with myself having been bitten by the Airfix bug during my just completed 109 build, I had to get this when I found it on the clearance racks (everybody wants their new tooled Spitfire V kit nowadays, not this one)...

So a Desert Air Force Spitfire V to face off against my recent Me-109F build is in my not too distant future now...

This one is not exactly an addition to the stash as its replacing an older kit. I don't normally do that, in fact i don't recall ever doing it before. A few years back i got the Mach 2 B-45 even though i knew of their reputation, bhut the subject filled a nice gap in my Norfolk airfields project.

When valom released theirs i was in 2 minds. But seeing it on e-bay from a buisnes sseller for a lot less than everyone else was selling it, i figured what the hell.

And i have managed to sell the Mach 2 kit so that has gone towards this.

Ye, i know what you mean, all the photo's i could find they were wearing side caps. The RAF did have berets then, but i couldn't find any info on dress regulations. We don't wear side caps now so berets are the norm, i didn't think of that when i aksed.

I did find  wiki page about berets which said they were introduced into the RAG Reg in 1943, so it could be they were only worn by troops serving in the field at first. That makes sense as the Regiment was only formed in 42 and giving them uniform similar to that of the army seems logical. It may have been that the rest of the RAF didn't adopt it until later. So unfortunatly, it does look like you may have to find a head with a side cap.

I haven't seen any photos of RAF drivers in berets. Only the sidecap/ garrison cap. But I would be much happier if I did see they wore berets and Battle dress.

another vehicle for my ground support equipment alongside 1/48 aircraft... I was on the fence about this one until I saw that it had an RAF option. Now I just need to come up with a sidecap head for the driver instead of the beret..

The figures are from Masterbox and in 1/24th for use with auto models. I've got a few together and the detail is really good. Just a few seams here and there to fill though.

At our show last weekend I went and picked up these. I haven't built a car in over twenty- twenty-five years. I'm hoping maybe doing something different will kick me out of this recent modeling burn-out.

All things good to know,stick. On my Testors Tornado the pylons swiveled and after breaking them off and fixing them a few times with few different "techniques" ....Let's just say after the last one broke, they no longer swiveled again!

The fit is not bad from what I remember. Just some filler here and there. There are just some fragile areas in the kit. The landing gear, the wing pivot mechanism, and the pylons being most fragile. Once built, it looks pretty impressive. You just can't use it for multiple bombing runs on the cat. Even if they are for the Warsaw Pact and have crossed the East/West border.

Thanks, Stick for the heads up on the Tornado. I was hoping since it was an old "new tool" it would fit great. I did a tetsors/italeri tornado years ago and was not fun. Anyways it will be far down the "to do" list.

This past Saturday was our most recent AMPS meeting, which was held at one of our local shops, who also is a big backer and sponsor of that club, Brookhurst Hobbies. This weekend also just happened to be the 25th Anniversary of the shop moving to their current location and change of ownership to the current owner. All models were 20% off, with certain brands and other items having a higher percentage discount. Well, I had my sights set on this beauty, and snagged it up as soon as I found it on the shelves...

 

 

 

 

Ye, one of the new ones, this one dates from 2015. There are a couple of their older subjects i would get, such as thge Vulcan, but i am waiting out in the hope of a new tool. But generaly i avoid their older kits.

Beav, thanks for that assessment of the Defiant. I am really looking forward to building it. I have been wanting one for ages.... I have a soft spot for the hard luck planes like that one, the TBD...

That Tornado, will not go together so smoothly. I built one when it was a new release. It's a nice kit and looks quite impressive with that MW-1 dispenser as a war load and that nice late Cold War scheme. But it is no shake and bake kit 

My brother regifted a Xmas present from 30 years ago to me for my B-day! Not my scale or genre but one day I'll build it.....and give it back to him. Those are nice "gets" Little Timmy and Stick. That Defiant goes together..."like butter"

Just ordered one of these. Saw a build on Flory Models. What do you think? Anyone done this kit?

Tell me about it. I still have a few more i wnat to get this year, which will make about 25 new kits. Though in my defence, i have had a couple of good years where i only bought 3 or 4. I am going to be stricter with myself next year (he says knowing full well how that will go )

I built many of those as a youngan. I have several plans on paper and computer for scratching small free flights to large gas. Mostly WWI and WWII fighters and bombers. Some are civilian.

Those are pretty cool!

 

 

 

I built (and finished!) the Rufe back in the 1990s.  I even painted the fictitious red primer topsides.  It was my first and last stick/tissue model.  When I got it balanced, it was too heavy to fly.  I removed the floats to lighten it, and got a couple of flights until I over-wound the rubber band, which crumpled up the fuselage!  A friend recently gave me a Corsair, but if I do build it, it will just hang from the ceiling.

 

I think I will build these as models without trying to fly them.  Alhough....I took a look on youtube to see what these were about, and with the advent of lightweight electric motors, these can actually be converted to R/C.  Either way, they look fun to build.

Been wanting to add a beaufighter to my Norfolk airfields project. finally managed to find some AM decals that fit, so grabbed the Airfix TF.X to go with them.

Straycat1911 responded again that he had a set for the very aircraft I needed and he would send them to me. They arrived yesterday in a strange large package with a Hasegawa 1/72 long winged F-111G that will build into the SAC Nuclear strike version of the time. Wow! I'm re-enthused!
