Yeah D, I'd put 'em in the military aircraft section too. 

I tried to build the same Spit and Rufe back in the '80s- they even came in the same boxes! I say tried since I don't think I ever got any of the balsa and tissue planes I built to fly very well. I think I still have the boxes though the planes went out with the trash years ago.

You could put them in the Aircraft section.

I built many of those as a youngan. I have several plans on paper and computer for scratching small free flights to large gas. Mostly WWI and WWII fighters and bombers. Some are civilian.
Those are pretty cool!

So I picked these up for $8 each.

I belong to a gaming club, and one of the club members passed away, leaving thousands of dollars worth of games and these kits.  The club is trying to sell the games in order to help the deceased club member's daughter get through college.

These are the Guillow's balsa wood frame with tissue paper kits.  Couldn't pass up the deal, and these will be good projects for when I feel burned out on plastic.  Checked them out online, and they look pretty cool.  If I like these, I may get a "super sized" kit, and do the R/C thing.

When I get around to building, I am guessing this would go in the paper model section of the forum?

Well I've started down a new path here. With all the ground support equipment that I've been building lately, this was only natural. Especially with my current North Africa Me-109 project... found it online with free shipping for about half of what they go for here.... it arrived in the mail today, a bit over a week after I ordered it...

 

 

Needless to say, I will be picking up more of these quarter scale Tamiya vehicles that can be used in aircraft vignettes....

 

That will go nicley with the 109.

Armornit, yes, aircraft look better with the support stuff around them. A little or a lot.

PJ, I'm looking forward to that Hurricane and the ground crew also. I am really wanting to get ahold of the 1/48 Airfix "Battle of Britain" set that comes with their new tool Hurricane, a truck, a fuel bowser, and a figure set.

LT, yes you earned the stop and purchases. Copper is heavy.

So last weekend my wife made me drive to Tuscon to pick up our new kitchen cabnets (including the proverbial sink ) and on the way back I "faked" a mecanical breakdown right in front of the Only hobby store I could find. 

The "fix" included 4 cans of Testors lacquers, some plastistruct scratchbuilding stuff, a sheet of Bare Metal Foil, and a Revell re-pop of Monograms old Slingster customizing dragster.

As of this post its already in paint and the frame and engine are assembled.

I deserve it.....after all do you know how heavy a copper double sink is ??????

That's cool Stick. At 1/48 that Kubel still has to be tiny. I'm excited to start on my 1/48 RAF ground crew and support equipment for the Hurricane.

I have heard those 48th Tamyia jobs are really nice, as detailed as thier 35th counters only easier to build. Of course it doesn't hurt that they match scale to aircraft. Aircraft on the deck just look so much cooler with GSE around.

Thanks Griff, kinda stuck betwen posting a new post or just carrying on like nothinh has happened. I REALLY DO NOT WANT to hijack this thread. I could not believe my eyes when I saw the Growler for 25 bucks USD, and it has livery for my last Squadron I was in (VAQ-129), even though I never worked on it it is still really cool.

Scored a 1/32nd EA-18G ( Trumpeter) from Hobbytown yesterday, $25.00, YES $25.00 my intent was a jar of paint and an Iwata airbrush stand. Wound up coming home with the Growler, a BanDia Y-wing plus my intended targets. Being emotionally compromised, ( my mom died Friday evening), and in a hobby shop pounded my wallet. Still think $25.00 is a good deal.

Nice one Max. Those hase F-111's are indeed hard to come by. I managed to get an FB a while back but still want to get the other versions. I'll have to look out for that G, i have never seen that one before. can't wait to se you build it.

 

 

 

 

The F-111G is just a re designation of the FB-111A. Aside from the GPS nav system being added, and the end of service overall gunship gray paint scheme, they are the same aircraft.

 

Thanks Stik. I did read the FB's were modified, but could find out what was done. The only Hase F-111G listed on scalemate is an Australian one. But getting hold of any of the Hase 111's is a challenge in itself.

Straycat1911 responded again that he had a set for the very aircraft I needed and he would send them to me. They arrived yesterday in a strange large package with a Hasegawa 1/72 long winged F-111G that will build into the SAC Nuclear strike version of the time. Wow! I'm re-enthused!

I just got the Takom^ Tiger 2 with interior with out zimmerit.  I've been building Tigers since the dawn of time, (1970),  but is a fairly new one to me.  Lots of nice parts, and it looks like a fun build.

Wow! Out of the blue a package arrived at the door yesterday with this in it! Long story. My deceased uncle Col. George Wells who was also my hero as a kid flew over 5000 hrs in WWII as a C-47 pilot. He was the first plane to pick up the Bataan surviors. After the war and a few years at home he went back to the Air Force to fly the new B-47 for SAC and later the B-52. His last mission was to command one of the two SAC FB-111A squadrons. 

Later in life I built two of the aircraft he flew and they hang in my office. A couple of years ago I researched and at least talked about building an F-111 to complete the display. They are a long wing version and were hard to find at least for me. I even discussed it on the Forum. Meanwhile I started too many different projects and did get a reply from fellow Forum member Straycat1911 that he had one in his stash he'd send me. By then I'd been overcome with my other silly projects and I hated to take a plane from another man's stash that I might never build.

Fast Forward from months ago to present. I'm somewhat caught up in life and dug out an F-104 kit my wife won at a show. Since I already had a F-104 in my collection I decided I'd like to build the NASA version and began a search for discontinued decals. Straycat1911 responded again that he had a set for the very aircraft I needed and he would send them to me. They arrived yesterday in a strange large package with a Hasegawa 1/72 long winged F-111G that will build into the SAC Nuclear strike version of the time. Wow! I'm re-enthused! 

Hats off to Straycat1911 for being a good human. He never asked for money or praise but helped a fellow modeler in need. I'm sending him a meager check today for the $12 freight and something for the decals and kit along with my heartfelt thanks.

Mopar-  Have the same kit on the shelf.  Not getting the deck though.  Looked it over, and it is a daunting prospect for sure.  You MUST do a WIP when you get going on her.  That way I'll know weather to ship it to MC or not.

I been a little bit busy adding to the stash this year. I added a second Trumpeter A-6A  which gives me 3 of their Intruders to build, Now I just need to finish my current builds and try working on the stash.  I been trying to download this pic from Photobucket but I guess they went to charging folks to post our own pics on third party sites now so the heck with them.

I did pop the box on the HK B-17 to take a peek inside and wow she's huge! Wife says where will I display it? i don't have a clue, will cross that bridge when I start on it.

Any idea's how to get the modle manufactures to produce 1/48 scale - allied war & post war models. I have an extensive list that I ( and a lot of others)  in the $15 to $30 range.  Any one here looking for these moles

 

 

 

 

I just did a search on Hannants and i was surprised at how much in out there in 48th. Hobby Boss and Tamiya seem to have a decent selection of WW2 Allied kits, i did find a few modern kits, but agreed, post war is not that well covered.
