Your Last Three Models

Haven't built a new model all year but just about to fire up the printers again.

These are the last three models I built all from scratch using 3D printers, an Ender 3 Pro FDM printer for the large parts and a LD-002r resin printer for detail parts. Both printers are made by Creality.

This 1/35 scale Pershing was finished at the very end of 2020.

I finished my 1/450 scale USS Atlanta in November of 2020

And my 1/450 scale USS Texas was completed in early October of 2020

I used watered down mix of blue and grey for the 5 o'clock shadow. Took a few layers.

Great job!  I hear that the new Tamiya F-4 is a great kit and I really like that "Fury' figure.  How did you get his 5 o'clock shadow?

What did you use for the rigging?  How was the kit to build?( I have the Hobbycraft version in my stash)  What paints/colors did you use?

As far as 'to build,' it was pretty typical Hobbycraft: soft detail (and pretty sparse cockpit detail), but nice overall shape and proportions, and generally good fit; I don't recall any real problem areas. One suggestion -- which admittedly I didn't do on this build -- would be to thin the interplane 'vee' struts a bit, as they're kind of 'blocky.'

Rigging was the 'fine' version of the elastic thread product called EZ-Line, which I use for pretty much all my rigging. I pre-measure the lines to about 75% of the length they'll need to span, and use CA to attach home-made 'eyes' made of fine wire as turnbuckles. I pre-drill holes before attaching wings and such, so when it's finished I can just 'plug in' the rigging lines (again using super glue as the adhesive) using a pair of needle-nose cross-lock tweezers. It's a great method that removes all the stress from the rigging job, and since the elastic will 'give' if knocked accidentally, it's very forgiving of ham-handed klutzes like myself.

Paints are my own 'eyeball' mixes of Tamiya acrylics. If you hunt around on the web, there are actual contemporary color photographs (from an early process) of several French WW1 aircraft that can be used as guidance for the proper hues. (You might also do a search for the works of aviation researcher Alan D. Toelle, whose work on original colors has been used by institutions like the Smithsonian.)

I don't have immediate access (on my phone, that is) to the formulas I used, but if you're interested, I'll be happy to look them up next time I fire up the PC.

Great stuff Greg.  Love the markings on the Orion and really like the Henschel.

These are my last three builds. In fact they are still on the bench as I write this. All three will be NMF including the F-5F. That build is going to be a what-if. I recently bought a Silhouette Protrait stencil cutter so I'm going to try to paint some of the markings on these builds. I don't have any W.I.P. photos but I will be posting pictures of the finished builds.

3 More to report. This is AFV Club's 1/35th Scimitar with several resin sets from Scorpion miniatures for a vehicle from the Falklands war.

 But I am still polishing away on Two Cars now-The Older AMT/ROUND TWO Mustang G.T.350 and Atlantis's old Re-pop or Revell's 57 Caddy Eldorado. Then I slide back to my ship the Rio de los ostras in Paper. On the ship I am on part 785.That has to be assembled. It's about the size of a large pepper-corn. I have to make 12 of them. Wittle Bitty Winches. About four Hundred more parts to go. Than somehow I will get a picture here!

It's been awhile since my last update to this string. Looking back I see several things that caught my eye...

- Bish is a modeling machine.....WOW.

- Steve some how morphed or cloned himself into two other people and completed four other models while he finished his Akagi; talk about an overachiever!

- We have a bunch of top tier modelers in this forum. The models being shown by everyone are awesome!
