Members start gathering at around 2pm at Bartlett Hall, UP College of Fine Arts, UP Diliman. Meetings start at around 3ish. Just look for any of the IPMS BAC members present here and we'd be glad to show you around. See you tomorrow! Smile [:)]Smile [:)]Smile [:)]

Yes I do have the 1st two episodes of Initial D 4th stage. Sure I'll burn it for you but I won't be able to bring it this Sunday.... unfortunately it still hasn't been returned by my friend... the Enterprise had catapults since 1943 i'm not sure if they're Mk 3 or 4s, with regards to the tamiya kit, the enterprise is a generic yorktown class which means you can build it anyway you like except "as is" if you want accuracy, modifications will have to be made mostly on the AA arrangements, radars and yes, 2 catapults slightly pitched and not in parallel and her later version she received torpedo blisters, these are bulges on both sides of her hull.

hmmm, in 1943 the Enterprise was painted in standard measure overall navy grey untill in mid 1944 when it was painted in cammouflage measure 33, Design 4ab (light grey, med. grey, blue grey) 4ab denotes the cammo pattern. i'm still browsing through my references on the pattern and anything related to her.

you can check out "naval historical center.com" for more info.

hope this helps.

Jeepney,

3M Magic Tape? Oh yeah.... I'll try that on my next model Approve [^]

ReggieF

Yup, Parafilm M really works like a charm! Approve [^]

Lipton

I have a suggestion on canopy painting that wont involve masking and cutting off masks using xacto knife....

do you have a small sheet of clear decal? or a decal you wont be using anymore? paint the decal using the exterior color of the kit. for the P-40 this would be olive drab. use airbrush with very light applications so as not to 'moisten' the decal.

then cut the decal into strips whose width is equal to the width of the frames of the canopy. then apply like an ordinary decal over the canopy frames. let dry. easy, isnt it?? :D]

however, i think this is applicable to canopies with 'greenhouse' frames only. havent tried it yet to 'blown' or 'bubble' canopies (ex F-16, F-15 or bubbletop P-47) since these are easier to mask.

another suggestion:

it would be better if you use clear decal because you can paint the interior color first (zinc-chromate green for the P-40), then overspray with the exterior color once dry. after applying the decal on the canopy, you have an added bonus: it will seems that even the frames inside the canopy are 'painted' with the interior color! Yeah!! [yeah]

actually, you can use this technique when masking the canopy: paint the interior color first, then paint the exterior color thereafter. Thumbs Up [tup]

for Parafilm M, cut of a small piece (about 1/2 the area of the canopy) then stretch it out. apply over the canopy, cut out areas to be painted then paint. remove by applying fresh masking tape over the Parafilm M, then remove quickly. very neat results and no paint seepage.

hope this helps! Blush [:I]

bigman Clown [:o)]

I'll try that too

Guess I'll take your suggestion and try the 3M thing (on my next model). Gonna drop by at NBS after office. Thank you very much for the alternative. Cool [8D]

Good day!
-Lipton-

You know Lipton, I tried to use magic tape also. It's great if you want to see what's below but one word of caution... the 3M brand is "makunat" so it's hard to form it onto the contours... I normally cut it into small strips and put them on top of one another. Also, the adhesive tends to react with cetain solvents like lacquer thinner and lacquer flo so make sure the edges are creased well onto the surface otherwise you get paint seepage.
