Bigman/Reggie
Thanks for the tips. Is Parafin M available in Mercury Drug, if so, about how much? Bigman, I didn't know decals could also be used. Sounds interesting but I guess you have to demo it to me, I didn't get your instruction well (my comprehension is low batt again Big Smile [:D]), I guess you have to demo it to me. Blush [:I]

I'll heed your warning, thanks. Smile [:)]

Why oh why didn't I think of that method. A bit work intensive but sounds easier. Sadly, I don't have an air-brush, still a 'cave dweller' Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]

Jeepney,

3M Magic Tape? Oh yeah.... I'll try that on my next model Approve [^]

ReggieF

Yup, Parafilm M really works like a charm! Approve [^]

Lipton

I have a suggestion on canopy painting that wont involve masking and cutting off masks using xacto knife....

do you have a small sheet of clear decal? or a decal you wont be using anymore? paint the decal using the exterior color of the kit. for the P-40 this would be olive drab. use airbrush with very light applications so as not to 'moisten' the decal.

then cut the decal into strips whose width is equal to the width of the frames of the canopy. then apply like an ordinary decal over the canopy frames. let dry. easy, isnt it?? :D]

however, i think this is applicable to canopies with 'greenhouse' frames only. havent tried it yet to 'blown' or 'bubble' canopies (ex F-16, F-15 or bubbletop P-47) since these are easier to mask.

another suggestion:

it would be better if you use clear decal because you can paint the interior color first (zinc-chromate green for the P-40), then overspray with the exterior color once dry. after applying the decal on the canopy, you have an added bonus: it will seems that even the frames inside the canopy are 'painted' with the interior color! Yeah!! [yeah]

actually, you can use this technique when masking the canopy: paint the interior color first, then paint the exterior color thereafter. Thumbs Up [tup]

for Parafilm M, cut of a small piece (about 1/2 the area of the canopy) then stretch it out. apply over the canopy, cut out areas to be painted then paint. remove by applying fresh masking tape over the Parafilm M, then remove quickly. very neat results and no paint seepage.

hope this helps! Blush [:I]

jmfrancisco,

Have you tried Parafilm M? Try your local medical laboratory. This film's really easy to apply to canopies compared to masking tape. I ordered some on ebay and tried for the first time on my harrier. Worked like a charm. I'll try to send you a link on how to apply it.

Don't go for other brands. I have here Armak Invisible tape which costs a lot less (3 for 29.75) and I must say it sucks. Does not adhere too much on curves.

jm,

its easier to mask one way, should we say vertical lines first then paint it then after the paint dry up, unmask it and mask the horizontal line next. Its a little bit easier this way except you have to two painting session and clean your airbrush twice.

Wow I didnt know 3M works, this is available in National Bookstore right? I used tamiya tape but yes its kinda thick. I'm also not very good at handling the x-acto blade so my cut goes in different directions. Worst, panel lines in the canopy for this scale is so hard to see when taped.

Guess I'll take your suggestion and try the 3M thing (on my next model). Gonna drop by at NBS after office. Thank you very much for the alternative. Cool [8D]

Good day!

3M magic tape works wonders on Braille scale canopies. It's the translucent tape that turns transparent once it sticks to something. It's easy to use, adheres well, leaves no residue, and it's easy to cut.

Solution: Locks on glass shelves and early lecture on the virtues of appreciating without touching.

mdlchiw,

yep, paragon designs has closed shop Dead [xx(]. but before it did, i got myself their update set for hasegawa's 1/48 F-15E Big Smile [:D] (featured at the F-15E website). i think some of their products were 'absorbed' by xtraparts (or is it the other way around? Confused [%-)]). you may want to check out xtraparts at hannants.

anyway, i'm still checking on your requests... hope you can wait for a little while longer... Blush [:I]

for the F-15E payload config, you may want to check out Verlinden's F-15E Lock-On, which lists down the configs used during Desert Storm. also the Gulf Air War Debrief (Janes Publication) book. sorry, i dont know of websites that has these configs. isnt it listed down on the F-15E website you referered earlier? Question [?]

if you dont have these references, maybe i can email you directly for the list, or better yet, why not drop by at UP diliman on June 13 on our monthly meeting. i can show you my references and maybe we can discuss your plans for your 1/32 F-15E further Smile [:)]

have a nice day! Big Smile [:D]

Jeep,

Okay! Hope you can make it. I had the same thoughts about my physical well being when I first joined. But I made it through.

Im sure meetings in the next few years will indeed be a family affair. You notice last meeting the guys were bringing their family along? Ill be doing that too, as soon as little Mikhaila learns how to walk and how to NOT touch models. Hehehe! We'll teach them how to make models. Theyre the next generation. Theyll be entering models in contests while we talk about the good old days. Wink [;)]

Shonen,

Aaaw! Try mo, my friend. Believe me, youll love it.

Lipton,

Wow! That was quick. Cant wait to see the P-40. We'll take shots!

Oh, by the way, Im really bringing my basic Spraywork Airbrush to the club this Sunday (I forgot it last time). Along with Bull's compressor, it can be used by any member without an airbrush. It'll be an on-site aribrush-compressor rig. We can start painting there! Cool [8D]
