Do they sell Future Floor Polish anywhere near here? I've read in soooo many articles how useful it is especially when you either want your decals to settle properly or if you just want a cool finish on your plane or car model. If it isn't being sold here in Manila, what alternatives are available?

I've set up a small armor exhibit inside the Xavier HS Library. Its made up German tanks from Pz. 1 to King Tiger. It got a lot of students interested in the hobby and the school asked me if I could start a club. However, I really don't know the first thing about starting a club as we all know that modelling is a solitary hobby. Any advice at this point would be helpful in making a decision. The next mini-exhibit I'm planning is about the Pacific War. The centerpiece will be 2 Revell Arizonas. One version will be the undamaged version (Dec.6, '41) and the other will be the sunken hull as she appears (more or less) today. I'll flank it with Japanese and American planes of the period and I'll throw in my solitary Japanese tank vs. a Marine M4 Sherman (Italeri). I'll probably set it up by next month. The students dont want me to take the Panzers away just yet.

Your nearest alternative to Johnson's Future Floor Polish will be Johnson's Wipe & Shine Floor Polish here in Manila. Despite it isn't clear in liquid form (something like a dilute milky white) it still would be crystal clear as soon as it dries up. Smile [:)]

If you plan to put up your own IPMS group, some say that you would only need a bare minimum of 5 members to put up a chapter and get an accreditation from both IPMS USA and IPMS NJ. Or you can simply go to one of the already existing IPMS around the metro and I believe they will be more than willing to help you out. Approve [^] After all, it's all for the glory of our little hobby. Big Smile [:D]

There are relatively two known IPMS groups which hold their meetings near Xavier School.... they both have their meetings in UP Diliman.

Here's their websites if you need any info on them:

http://www.ipmsphilippines.com/

http://www.geocities.com/ipms_manila/

I heard there's another bigger group.... IPMS International.... but I don't know if they really exist.

i heard de la salle zobel has a modelling club, yet it is not IPMS. affilliating with any IPMS does not in any way make your group more legit or anything, although it may sound nicer being a part of an international org...

but you know, you could get a lot of support from any of these existing clubs if you just approach them... clinics, demos... lectures on the basic techniques even.

you can just gather the modellers together, keep them off the streets by helping them work on their kits... set up a group build then put up an exhibit... that would be rewarding enough for the kids... heck.... group builds are even rewarding for grown ups! what more if it gets shown off or displayed??? Big Smile [:D]

you might want them to prepare for a national event... there will be a national modelling competition spearheaded by IPMS Philippines Bert Anido Chapter in October.... you might want your kids to join.... or you, perhaps? Smile [:)] there are lots of categories. entry forms are available in the website and there is a page there for the nationals... just follow the link that cbrain has posted....

anyway, hope these ideas would help you decide... Wink [;)]

Now, you just mentioned my old alma mater. Ehhehehe. Yes, I now remember that we also had a modeling club in Zobel when I was in elementary.... it was an elective subject depending upon what interests a certain child. Unfortunately I was a member of the Art Club back then. ehehehe. I did more painting on canvass rather than on plastic. Big Smile [:D] ahihihi

aaahhh... grade school and high school... those were the days... hehehe...

there were JVCs (Jesuit Volunteer Core yata!?) assigned to our school before... one of them used to moderate the cinema club... hehehe... i wonder where he is now... after that assignment in Sta Maria Catholic School in Iloilo.... hehehe... our class used to be his "favorite" class... Thanks for the advice. I'm not really inclined to set up a separate IPMS chapter. I'm looking at keeping it small and just teaching them basic modelling skills for their particular kit. Most of the students are into Japanese anime/robot stuff. Some are into cars and bikes. Most of the stuff I've built are WWII armor, ships and planes. So there is somewhat of a gap in terms of interest though I have helped a couple of students put together some Macross stuff and detailed it for them. What I'm really interested in is what would a modelling club do whenever it meets? Like do we just sit down on our respective benches and build and not mind each other's business? Competitions would be nice but being a bunch of kids, simple exhibits would probably be a better idea. We could visit the upcoming competition and get inspiration and some pointers. Again, thanks for the advice.

There is a club named Mechapinoy who are the experts when it comes to those Japanese anime/japanese robot stuff... they are also in contact with Bankee, the sole importer of all Bandai kits locally. They hold Gundam Caravans inside different shopping malls around twice a month to promote the hobby among children ages 8-12. Maybe they also can give you some pointers regarding your club. Smile [:)]

Here's a link to their website and messageboard:

have your kids visit the gundam caravans in the malls.... mechapinoy is handling that right now... they give free kits for kids 12 and below. hehe. they also get free tutorials as they assemble their kits where the caravan is being held. Big Smile [:D]

check out the websites... you'd get a lot of stuff from there. regarding meetings, both ipmsphilippines bac and ipms manila meet in UP once a month... usually on a Sunday. they have their respective contact persons....

and about the kids entering the nationals, you might be surprised that a 14 could make you feel inspired to dig yourself a hole and plant your head in it... for his models might be far better than yours. Laugh [(-D]

It's in a quart can like the typical paint. Just look for a dealer of Boysen and chances are they have it. I tried using it for handbrushing by adding a drop to it per 10 drops of paint. So far so good. It flowed smoothly.

Hi! Max... Cbrain's right. Johnson's wipe and shime is the closest. I'm not sure of the effect, though because the formulation is different. Check it out na lang on a model you think is worth throwing away. If you want to buy Future, you can check out Lil's at Megamall. Frank Ching of BAC sometimes leaves a few bottles there. If you have no other choice, Natalie of JMN in Harrison is willing to purchase them for you (at least last I remember she was). Just pass by there and ask.

Emjaetee's right Max. You can try to get in touch through the BAC members using this board or through me or Ben Borja (also here on this board) for IPMS/Manila. We're really excited that there are groups like yours enjoying the hobby. "The more the merrier", I always say! Most of the clubs meet on a regular basis to exchange ideas, discuss issues and techniques in modeling, share food like fishballs and stuff but all in all just horse around. If you want, please drop by the club meetings of the different clubs. You will learn a lot of valuable information about them. Discuss among yourselves whether you want to go out on your own as an independent group or affiliate yourselves with an already existing club. the choice is yours.
