I'll give this thread a helpful bump...
After wrapping up my Comrade General Lee build earlier this week, I decided to do a quick repair project on an old build. I built this Tamiya Chieftain Mk.5 in spring of '84 at Ft Polk, and it has been damaged over the years, getting the right side bustle rack, left side smoke grenade launcher, TC IR spot land and machine gun broken off. Some parts I found and saved ( part of the rack, part of the TC MG, smoke grenade launcher) and some parts ( TC IR spot lamp & mount) were lost who knows where and when...
So scratched up what was missing off the rack, and rebuilt the rest and after letting that dry, I glued it in place... along with a replacement spot lamp that was close enough from my spares bin and I used a modified part that looked close enough for the mounting yoke... I also made up a new barrel from brass tubing for the TC MG. Lastly I glued the left side smoke grenade launcher back in in place, and once dry, all the replacement items were painted. Since I was never happy with the tank that I used on the main gun thermal wrap blanket, I also repainted that area and painted the padding inside the open turret hatches... lastly I replaced the old broken off stretched sprue antennas with some made from music wire Now it should be good to go for the next 40 years ;)

Working on a 1/32 Spitfire. I just got this display base for it from Bases By Bill. Outstanding workmanship and great customer service. Highly recommended
Great base for a Spit, Willie Pete.
I have been restoring my mothers Thermopolyae she built almost fifty years ago. I have replaced the masts and bowsprit with walnut and am now starting the rigging.
Taking a break from plastic models and building a Guillows 24" wingspan stick-n-tissue SE-5A. Don't know if I'll fly this one or not but I'm adding pit details (what there is of them), control cables and wing wires.
Built a smaller 12-1/2" wingspan model of the same plane last year.

I keep hitting "escape", but I'm still here.
It's a 1/700 ship as usual.
But this one has been waiting in my stash for 20 or 25 years, back from the day when resin ship kits were very special and they weren't very good. This is from a company called Kobo Hiryu and I was excited when I started working on it. But then I started to realize...
The one is a South Korean frigate named Ulsan. I think it will finally be done before long.

When talking on another forum about my current Spitfire Mk.XIVe project, it came up that I had this long sidelined ICM Spifire HF.VII languishing partially built on my "Shelf of Doom" (actually a cabinet). I then pulled it out for a look, dusted everything off, and realized I had it fairly close to reasonably assembled...So I decided to resume construction, first adding the upper wing surfaces and allowing those to dry overniteThen the next morning I added the remainder of most of the external parts such as wingtips, ailerons, horizontal stabilizers, rudders, and a few other bits here and there...Now I've gotten it to the point of where I have to repair what was damaged when I last sidelined it, the motor mounts. The ICM Spitfire kits are notorious for the cowling not fitting around the included engine, and I was addressing that area when the damage occurred and I sent it off to the shelf of doom prior to my last move. Now I have some new ideas to fix that damage... Stay tuned for more updates on this one...
Funny how the spit is know for the beautiful eliptical wing and then they did these point ones and chopped off ones. Looking good.
This is a project my wife and I just started. Any of you Dexter fans may know where this is going
The Trumpeter container is a really nice kit. Waiting on some more figures
Thanks,
John
Very unique subject choice John. I know where youre going with this.
The Spitfire wingtip changes are interesting subjects... each type gave improved performance for its intended operational environment and mission.
I don't know where this is going but I think I am vedddy intedested.
I had a mishap on my current build, so it's Plan B now:
Say hello to my little friend, a Kotobukiya 1/144 Super ZZ Gundam. It's yet another model that has sat in my closet for 30 years. I guess I should have been a wine maker. Everything I do is 30 years old.
“Ya ya ya, unicorn papoi!”
Some interesting stuff on some work benches at the moment. Here is what Jarrod and I are workiing on.

NEXT PROJECT:

Neal, you need to get some colors on that Gundam. It looks way too monotone!
Drums, that looks like a killer subject in that locomotive! Gonna be a big beauty!
As for me, I've been working on a Thunderstreak, and am getting near the finiish line finally...

Yessir Stik!
BTW, is that a nuke for your Thunderstreak? Or is it a recce pod or something else?
Good eye Neal! Yup, that's a Mk. 7 Atomic Bomb for the Thunderstreak. The kit includes one with the boxing that I'm building.

I always felt something inside me whenever I got a kit with nuclear weapons. When I was a kid, I even thought of placing a piece of uranium ore inside my Monogram B-29 "Little Boy" bomb.
What was a 12 year old kid doing with uranium ore? Well, someone got me this really neat display of different kinds of minerals, and it included uranium ore. Good thing it didn't have plutonium...
Speaking of nuclear weapons, I am very close to start painting the Super ZZ Gundam.
The little guy is the RX-78-2 Gundam from the original TV show. Both are 1/144 scale.
Currently I am bouncing back and forth between a 1950 Chevy pickup from AMT, and a 1993 VW Golf from Fujimi.
Insert wise quote here.

It's still on the work bench. Well, it's spending time outside in the patio getting some paint on:
This one has got to move quick, so hold onto yo butts!
Finished the Panzer IV
The Panther is done except for 4 figures

Neal, the Gundam looks great!
Tony, that F-16 is gonna be a neat project... I like it!
as for me, I've got this Blue Angels Hornet in progress
GWH 1:48 F-15E. I haven't decided if it is going to be an LN or MO
MJY65 GWH 1:48 F-15E. I haven't decided if it is going to be an LN or MO
Why not SJ, the original Strike Eagle wing?
Still working on the HMS Beagle, it is almost done, I am working on the sails.
I am already wondering what will be my next target, there are several ships I am interested in, such as The Mayflower, CSS Shenandoah, and maybe the HMS Victory and my main objective: the USS Constitution.
It boils down to cost and how sure I am of my ability to do a complex ship.

I've got my Hornet ready for decals.... I airbrushed on the yellow trim areas and the steel area ahead of the afterburners
Tomorrow I have to do a bit of tape residue clean up, and then it’s decal time!
That is one beautiful Bug, Stik!

Eaglecash867 That is one beautiful Bug, Stik!
Thanks Eagle. I sure love how much shine I got out of these gloss enamels! Man if I built autos...
Spitfire is looking marvelous Stik. F-84 and F-18 are also coming along nicely --- although, you have finished the F-84 at this point if I am not mistaken!
On the Bench: Too Much
Currently working on GWH 1/48 P-61 Black Widow. No pictures yet, but the main fuselage section is mostly assembled and seams addressed. Currently working on the twin booms. Just glued them up last night. Need to start addressing those seems tonight.

I will be starting this after vacation next week
