Okay, I give up. How do I get the photo here? I tried copying it, then tried using the address for this msg... and no luck.

By the way, The tail letters "EW" were to H&MS-24 Headquarters and Maint. They no longer exsist. No only did they have Broncos and Huey's, but A-4 Skyhawks too.

If someone wants to E-mail me at Lasercop@aol.com, I'll send the photo or give me an address I can send it to here.

As for the Marines recieving Army B models,  I'd love to see the pics or at least the refs.  I can find no documentation of the Marines recieving B models. my guess would be a ref that referred to the first batch of 204 based Echos as "B's" but I'm always open to new info.

The Army transferred 20 B models to the Marines, beginning in January 1966. These were operated by VMO-1 at MCAS New River. They retained Army serial numbers (like the AH-1Gs). One, 63-8572, was destroyed (mid-air with a CH-53). The others were returned in February 1968.

First off, welcome to the forums!  You probably hadn't read far enough but Supercobra set me straight on that one and now I even have the Marines and Helicopters book with the info about the Army B models.  I just wasn't as up on my Marine Huey history as I shoudl have been.

I'm new to the forums here, but have been reading this thread with GREAT interest--thanks for the great discussion and pictures.  I have been looking for detailed info and pics of the Echo model for a 1/24 scale project I have had waiting in the wings for quite a while.  I want to build a very accurately detailed model of the Huey Maj. Pless and crew flew on the mission which they were so highly decorated for.  I live in Pless' hometown and actually had the opportunity to meet his Crew Chief once--whom was kind enough to share many personal pictures of the Huey and crew.  My hat's off to you guys for this thread--OUTSTANDING!!!

Folks,

     I am attaching a couple of pics of the UH-1E gun arrangement.  The first two, I pulled from the web--please let me know who "owns" them so I can give proper credit.  The others are from Gordon Phelps--Crew Chief for Maj. Stephen Pless during their rescue mission in August 1967 of some Army troops stranded on the beach near My Lai.  Pless was subsequently awarded the MOH and the crew were awarded Navy Crosses.

EDIT*  Looks as though I "lifted" a picture or two from what Ray already posted--apologies.

No worries. It's good to see all the TK-2 stuff here in one spot.  I lifted it originally from Popamoke anyway, I think.  Thanks for the awesome shots and thank your friend for sharing.

For anyone interested in doing a UH-1E in 1/72 I just found this conversion from Rotorcraft.

http://www.lindenhillimports.com/rotorcraft.htm

It calls it a rescue hoist for a C or L, but it should work for an E as well.

I just got one of these, I haven't tried to fit it to a kit yet but the castings are nice. The roof is much thinner than it looks in the photo.

The service from Linden Hill was great, I had my order about 3 days after ordering.

Aaronw , the timing of your last post could not have been more perfect .

I have three 1/72 Italeri B/C Huey's under construction on the workbench right now .

I'm building them as an early UH-1E , TH-1L and a HH-1K

Last night I was trying to figure out how to file an indent in the roof section to house the rescue hoist . The roof pieces are still seperate from the cabin section and even though I have already airbrushed the overhead windows with clear green ; thankfully I hadn't installed them yet .

I'll be posting my order form today for 3 sets , I'm one happy modeler Big Smile [:D]

Since you will be having to deal with the overseas shipping you might check out the stuff from Whirlybits, Heritage Aviation and Extratech too, not Huey stuff but nice helicopter stuff.

Thank's for tip Aaronw ,

Linden Hill has some nice resin detail sets for the Mi-8 helicopter .[Heliborne Mi-8T cockpit interior]. The Mi-8 is my favourite non US military helicopter , so I'll think about adding some to the order Thumbs Up [tup]

                                    Thanks again ...John

 My 1/72 resin Huey UH-1E roof pieces arrived today .

 They only had two sets left in stock ;

I'll build one as an USMC UH-1E , like in the pic below

The second Huey will be a Navy TH-1E , HT-18

I scrounged around the decal spare's box , so hopfully I'll have enough markings for both birds .

 I did a dry test fit of one of the resin roof pieces ;

Everything seems to fit okay , later tonight I'll file out the overhead window roof panels on the other one and then I'll test fit the little hoist arms .
