I'm starting a Revell 1/24 Gunship build  for my neighbor . What a great couple they are .

I looked for a 1/35 no luck , Only 1/24 scale ..

I done alot research and that's what lead me to your site . What a great site this is.

Thank you all for having me .

Start off . This weekend I will start the primer process . Not sure which primer . Looks like i'm just going stay with tamiya acrylic paint .( air brush ). l will just try to match  the colors best as possible . Then follow up with a weather wash with Promodeler wash . .

This week I been working on striping the chrome piece . I soaked them in coke cola .Used 2 cans

Here is some pictures. 3 day soak

Welcome, Rick, and kudos on a great job so far. Will be following this one with interest.

If I may offer a tip for future use--assuming you haven't already encountered it--regarding stripping the chrome from model parts. A spray of Easy Off (or similar oven cleaner) will do in minutes what the Coke took several days to do, with no damage to the plastic parts. A quick rinse (and, occasionally, a little old-toothbrush action for the stubborn bits) and the parts are ready to use.

Have you decided on markings or decals yet?

Greg

Have you decided on markings or decals yet? No not yet
This will be a long build . I hope to have it done by Christmas .
This is my first build model .
The back seat . Under it there is a box . I think it holds ammo. Is that box dark gray ?
Thanks

Most of the morning . I was trying to figure out how to mount the parts and spray . I never work with small parts like this before . I went  in the junk box found a alligator clip , I crimped a 12 gauge hard wire to it . Omg perfect . Then I took those green foam blocks from my daughter . I sprayed the parts 2 coats , then pushed the wire into the foam block . Done . I do need gloves . Oops . Learn something . Painted hands

Yes, if your are going to be masking, it is best to let painted parts dry overnight. The cans uder the seat are ammo cans for the machine guns- those should be painted Olive Drab.

Only very early B's had the red seat covers. They were quickly replaced when they were deployed to Vietnam. The mesh seat covers were replaced yearly. A real pain to get tight!

Rick,

Good to see the old 1/24 B model being built.  Good luck on it.

Mel,

I think the red would be OK for a early model B like the Monogram kit represents.  I have seen pics of red seats at least into 66.  Something like this bird from the 2\20th ARA in 65.   The seats in the kit, however, aren't quite right for the early unarmored versions.

  Ray

This first bird even has the red seat back like the kit.  The seat back was removed an almost all Vietnam Hueys I have seen.

Her is another showing the red cockpit cushions:

Here's a 118th UH-1B also from 65 and you can see red cusg=hions here as well.  This bird also had the M-16 quad M60 setup like the kit.

I would go with both the pilots seats and the rear seat the same color, either read or green, but both the same.  Red adds some color to the old bird, that is what I would go with.
