INFOFROG, Love the build.....a soft spot in my heart for the old Huey Gunz....one thing I noticed on almost every UH-1 I worked on (from Vietnam) had patches in the floor board......beer can flattened and riveted in place, painted over with either flat black or gray spray paint (depending on the color of the interior)  the floor had a kind of diamond pattern to it......they changed it out with the Black Hawk ....easier to wash out the interior........our M-60's that were hooked on cables had small cans safety wired to the receiver to help guide ammo in and reduce jams.

Most often, Crew chiefs only used the door gun on close threats, otherwise we were to busy keeping the guns fed (especially if you had mini guns mounted)

Love your build, love your build

if you will note,  in the last picture, the little red handles on the seat riser tubes.  they are for dropping the seat back down so you could scrape out the dead stick actuator (pilot/co-pilot)s , and once the seat was back up and locked, a more worthy member (the crew chief)could fly the ship home.  air crew is a dime a dozen,  a crew chief is trained to fix their screw ups.

Rick,

That is the gun sight for the M-16 or M21 gun systems.  In the case of that pic, it is an M21 sight mounted to a display aircraft at Redstone Arsenal.  It is pictured in the deployed position, but was carried stowed above the copilot's head when not in use. Your bird would have had one as well for the M16 Quad M60C system you are building.   HTH

Green house mounted sight and control system is for the M-5 40 mm grenade turret.  The assy you have circled is for aiming and firing the mini-gun system or quad 60's.  You would never see this setup of both in an operational Huey Gunship.  It couldn't handle the weight of both systems and ammo!   The sight to the extreme right is the sight for the 2.75" aerial rockets.

Clear Left!

Dont forget, sometimes the best sight for fixed guns or rockets was a grease pencil mark on the windscreen......

more of my two cents

I believe Dan is referring to the fact pilots would often use a pencil mark on the windscreen instead of the purpose built rocket sight. Rocket sight was on the pilot side and gunsight was on the copilot side. In most cases the windscreen mark was used only for aiming rockets as the guns were on a hydraulic flex system operated by the pantographing sight. I'm sure some pilots did use pencil marks to aim the guns when they were fixed forward though. The hydraulics frequently malfunctioned, especially on the M16 system.

No, all the engine and transmission parts are natural metal colors.

Looking like a good build in progress there, Frog.  I'm planning on building my big Huey one day.  Will concentrate on a few smaller ones before tackling this big beast!  Good luck on it, hope you make your Christmas deadline!
