I have to agree,,Hans your work is really amazing,,,along with the other builds on this forum,,I almost felt like I was showing a grade school project with my fort pics,,, but wanted to get ideas from very talented people,,,I think I'm in the right place

I found 2 things, Hans alrady pointed out one of them. The other is the streaking you have from the 4 wing vents behind the engines, those are hot air vents for the inside of the wings, not exhausts. Other than that, keep plugging away, looks good so far.
Also, I like the your user name, it's very clever.
And how did you drop the flaps? There is detail inside them, aftermarket parts?

Yeah, that's a pretty common mistake, one I've made several times as well.. However, I figure that since each of my Forts are vets of at least twenty missions over the Continent, have been damaged at least ten times, they've had at least one engine-fire per side, the soot from the fire managed to find its way back through the vents and stained the wings...
Anytime anyone shows streaking from the hot air vents, someone else comments that 'those are hot air vents and not exhausts' and there should not be streaking, but photo after photo of 17s shows streaking from these vents. Maybe these vents shouldn't streak but they clearly did.
I've been following this group for a while, getting ready for my own B-17 build. Plenty of great inspiration and ideas, so it'll be a lot better because of everyone's work. My subject is The Latest Rumor from the 100th BG / 351st BS out of Thorpe Abbotts, England. My Father-in-Law flew 24 missions as her tail gunner, and the plane flew over 120 overall, so it'll be a heavily weathered and worn NMF effort. I've been out of modelling for a while, and had not done a NMF, so that will be my biggest challenge, I think - that and I'm new to PE and all the aftermarket stuff, but have bought a small fortune's worth of it - it's amazing!
I've been waiting for one last bit of research before starting construction - Aluminum Overcast is here in Northern Virginia this weekend so will be visiting and taking lots of pictures in some areas where I haven't been able to get quite the detail I want. I'm planning to display The Latest Rumor as a diorama (about 30 years after building my last Fort, copying Sheperd Paine's In the Pink). Love the plane, love the model, ready to start building!
On the bench: 1/48 B-17 Diorama
The diorama I have planned is the plane on the hardstand at Thorpe Abbotts preparing to leave for their mission to bomb Berlin in March 1945. The crew is posing for a photo, here's the actual shot with my Father-in-Law back row far left. I've got the kit figures, Verlinden air and ground crew, but need a few more to get the whole set.
Looking forward to seeing your work, especially the NMF. Thank you father in-law for his service on behalf of me please.
LeeB: Please show me pic after pic of the exhausrt streaking FROM the vents.
Freddy, LOVED the pics of the B-17 you posted in the B-17 group build site. As I've got a Monogram B-17G that I'm going to convert to an early model 'F', could you fwd them to me in an e-mail so I could download them for referrence on my B-17?
I LIKE your prop governors! As I've got the old Paragon (?) Prop governor and wing intake set, YOURS looks SSSSSOOOOOO much more realistic!!! Do you have any plans or diagrams that you could e-mail me so I could make some foe my B-17F? I'd really appreciate it.
Freddie, Is that the model kit parts manual, or the actual B-17 aircraft parts manual your talking about? Cause I'm interested in the actaul aircraft parts manual.

Might help you out a lot if you start with the Revell -F kit. You could also use the interior sets from the -G in the -F kit after some modifications.
See if you can find an F kit fuselage and graft the F kit nose onto the G kit fuselage.
Can't wait to see your build as it progresses
Got a question for the B-17 crowd. Does anybody have spare radio room window's for the revell 1/48 memphis belle kit? I need 2 of the hatches that DO NOT have the notch for the radio room gun.
Do you need the radio side windows? I have a Squadron vac-form hatch that you can have and the side windows for the B-17G. I just need a address to send them.
Holey crap, squadron makes one? Darn, never thought of them.
Sure, I could use those windows. I'll get an address to you back channel. Thank you sir!
I've got an extra from a squadron 9552 kit,,,its all yours if you need it

Yep, LittleJ beat me to it, but here's a link: http://www.squadron.com/ItemDetails.asp?item=SQ9552 It has the radio hatch, nose cone, tail and upper turret, and an astro dome
I used the radio hatch, astrodome, upper turret and nose cone on the -G I completed earlier, can't recall if I used the tail turret, will have to check when I get home:
Radio Hatch:
Nose Cone, astrodome, and upper turret:
There is another set that covers the flight deck, and ball turret. Haven't used that one, but the first one I highly recommend!
B-17D progress: Nose section is done and buttoned up and moved onto the cockpit. Finished it up as well, just need to mask the canopy and put it on.
Flight deck:
Up next is the radio room, but I'm going to have to work through the radio hatch to fix everything. Then comes the waist area and fixing the break.
Looks great Pilot!!
Hey pilot, nice to see the D coming along.
Handiabled, Damn fine ball turret! I hope your building a visible fort, shame to not see that again.
Ballpark idea of where I'm at. I havent had too much opportunity to work on them during the summer but...I've got 4 1/48 B-17's going. A B-17D, RAF fortress III and 2 late B-17G.
The engines for these 4 forts, plus another 2 that were done before. 24 of them altogether.
Identities for the 2 B-17G's.
And the major change for both G's.
I'll update soon.
Your place looks like a Boeing Plant in 43
Quick update. Staggered waist on the B-17G's.
New window on the right, old one that needs filled on the left.
Plug old hole, in this case I used the waist windows from the revell F kit. I needed to use a total of 3 of them because of the size difference.
Fill then sand. The fun part.
Instead of using silver paint to check your seams, use this.
Like this. Look's good enough here.
That migh be my NMF right there too!
Staggered waist.
Stinger tail cut and converted.
Lots of forts!
