1/24 FW-190 WIP- THE MUMMY
Posted by krow113 on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 4:06 AM

Trumpeter 1/24 FW 190 D-9. Pretty good kit as far as detail /fit concerned .I think everyone has done a 190 at one time or another. I got this in a lot of 1/24 models on ebay ,most of the good ones ,this one is the first in this scale for me. To be done in the markings of Black 12 surrendered by its pilot at the end of the war. Here it is in primer. All the boys are here ,Verlinden , Waldron , Eduard , Grandt , Tichey , Archer  most of the amarket kits available . What I would like is a new set of landing gear as the black plastic ones supplied are un-gluable any- one have any ideas on that ? To be finished by Oct '10 Here is the subject : Black 12 page 69 in your S/S d-9 Walkaround.

Nice photos of the primed parts, though I had to pause a moment when I saw a hand reaching up out of the parts. Smile

Seeing the Jumo 213 makes me wish someone would just do a series of large scale aircraft engines in the same way Testors issues their auto engine series

But then, we'd want to scratch build ......the rest of the plane.

Krow... looking good so far.   I've built this kit and the LG is a problem.  That soft vinyl like plastic will barely support the weight of the ting.  It has been a while so I can';t remember of the LG struts are hollow.  If so I advised inserting some wire in there.  The only way I could get the LG glued in was to use some gap filling CA and accelerator to harden it fast.  Set it on the LG and the weight would crack the glue because of the play in the fit.  I Kept doing this until the "gap" was filled with hardened CA glue.  If it is not hollow you maybe can drill it out from the top down enough to put some wire in to help and then work the wire into gluing the hole affair in place.

You can see my build here... http://wingnutmodels.com/Fw%20190D-9_trumpeter.html

Good luck.

The base in progress , 3/4" medite cut to shape & routed edge ,sprayed with stone spackle spray paint ,clear coated. Clay groundwork.

base1.jpg picture by krow113

base3.jpg picture by krow113

And yet more base ,at least I will have some where to put these wips when I am done .Primered clay first. This one measures 30" x 30" /Washes on and some spackle to break up the flat ground work. Some small rises to be covered in grass.

base6.jpg picture by krow113

Cut lines in to hold the spackle.

base7.jpg picture by krow113

base8.jpg picture by krow113

Washes for color.

base13.jpg picture by krow113

Then white glue thinned and brushed on for sanding. More color to come and grass on the grassy knolls.

basefin.jpg picture by krow113basefin2.jpg picture by krow113

At last! The base is done ,some simple cleanup later and  maybe a little dbrushing ,I will put it away and try to get to the actual model now.I do have somewhere to put this kit when its done. Some blending is nessecary as well .The final here was color washes , edge blend , grass tufts from Woodland Scenics superglued in place and noched after . Base is 30" x 30" plane sits in the middle.Name plate to finish.

Jmod Thank you .I would like some opinions on the ammo counter .This is the Waldron 1/24 set ,it is quite larger than the Eduard counter in the p/e placard set.I'm gonna leave it for now but may have to remove/replace later.

Nice work there.  Did you redo the LG door interiors? Or did Trumpeter fix them?  That looks like the Verlinden resin cockpit.  The landing gear really needs to be beefed up.  That cockpit is like a brick.  i think if a fly landed on mine the thing would collapse.
