Yes, very likely. It only seems to affect those who have been exposed to styrene...

Manny, the long antenna in that location is probably intended to be a Morane aerial, which IIRC was an IFF system, standard fit on 109s and 190s, so a fair bet for service inclusion...

Completing my Avia S-199 for IDF II hopefully today (and launching three builds as host!), touching the 229 is getting closer...

Cheers, Mike/TB379

Correct, the IFF was a lte-war addition seen primarily on 109 G-10's, G-14's and K-4's...as seen here both the direction finder loop and the IFF was fairly standard fare on late war a/c----in this case a G-10...My guess is that placement of the DF loop on top would make more sense...

Interesting...you could also opt for a finnish, Italian, Romanian or Hungarian scheme---although technically all of these countries were on the Alled side late in the war...however, since the wing is speculation one could hypotesize that at some point maybe the countries reverted back to the Axis...

Ok, looks like mine is going to be painted yellow and called the flying banana. there is some major warpage on the wings, has anyone else experienced this with the Dragon kit?? Still racking my head trying to figure out how to solve this.

Funny you should mention this, I have had a big fight with my wings. I ended up dunking them in hot water and bend them into shape, I hope!!!!! I should have called in Bender to helpStick out tongue

Here is a crappy pic of the offending wing...

I have had two books sitting on it all night and they havent taken any of the bow out. Going to hit it with some hot water and see what it does.

yikes - that is a wicked wing warp... Yeah, I'm thinking the hot water is probably the best option. Maybe follow that up with some of Manny's non-slip yellow on the lower half... Wink

Ok, now that I've found this again (I've been searching the GB forum), I'm just about ready to get started on mine. I picked up the 1/72 Revell kit which looks quite nice.

Well, I sucessfully straightened out the banana, I mean wing. I laid the two halves flat side down on a large piece of glass and using a hair dryer on low, heated up the styrene. I then kept them in the position with the weight of the book on them for several hours to allow the plastic to cool. Looks good so far. Going to let them sit over nigiht and check and see if the curve comes back in the morning.

Someone asked me about the "saw" pattern in a PM---here's what it looks like on a 109...colors are RLM 74, 75 and 76:

"Saw" pattern and "scalloped" leading edge:

Nice lookin' 109's Manny. That saw pattern is pretty neat, never seen or heard of it before. How about that scalloped edge, what did you mask it with? Silly putty?

Two things:

1) Your new avatar gives me an uneasy feeling...

2) To answer your question: Tamiya masking tape pre-cut with the "scallop" pattern...putty will not give you that hard of an edge...those saw patterns are real; I have refs that show many examples of 109's using them on the horizontal surfaces...same with the scalloped leading edge, although sometimes this was done in soft-edge:

Why is that? Perhaps you met a cat similar to the one in my avatar back in the fateful winter of '42-'43? Conjuring up memories of a lunch that didn't agree with you...

Its very nice work none the less. You seem to have references for everything. I'd love to see your library. Mine isn't very expansive yet, much like my stash but I'm working on it.

Manny,

Fantastic 109 you are showing there? What kit was that? I want it!!Stick out tongue

Well folks,.... I am calling this flying banana done:

I did have some wing warpage but only the top half. I straightened it out by just gluing it to the bottom half and it corrected itself...thank our fuhrer...

As you can see from the pics i had some booboo issues... I had to fiddle and mess with the windscreen so much that it totally fogged up and well...it aint pretty.

On top of that i held the ring arial in my tweezers yesterday ending up shooting it to the cold plains of Siberia, nowhere to be found so i fashioned myself one from some sprue and wire. Lastly i just broke off half of the pitot tube while prepping for these pics... Will have to stretch some sprue to correct that. Nothing too problematic though and i must say that i am still very pleased with the results myself. Hope you guys like my 229 as well.

Manny thanks for hosting this one; i had the greatest fun doing both of the Ho's (...)Stick out tongue

Nicely done, Oberst Kermit...other than the crazed windscreen and some silvering issues with the decals I think you really pulled off a winner!

I suppose you get the GB Badge times 2...Maybe now some of our "less-inspired" MOJO's will get to work...
