I wish I could join you but that kit is quite a bit out of budget.  That being said, I am not sure if you have seen this kit, but I ran across a 1/48 Horton on eBay and I thought I would give you the link for those who are still trying to find one.

Vance I have those same plans Cant wait to see what you come up with. I tried building a 1/32 Sopwith Camel once with bulsa and plywood. Was going pretty well until I tried to cover it with a light heat shrink fabric that they use on indoor RC stuff. I hope you have better luck than I did.

I am tellin you guys with all the fun going on here and the Dragon 229 begging me to be built ..................... Even been thinking about camo schemes the last couple of days. Now if I can just get 2 builds finished by the first week in January

Hey Vetteman, I'm hoping the styrene sheet treats me better than the fabric option. And the basswood is just being used for sub-structure. I'm kind of backwards with my materials!! You have the same plans?? Do you by any chance have the entire set of plans???? I wasn't able to track down the outer wing panels, so as of right now I'll be making those sections up as I go.

Unfortunately the 229 is being held by union labour. Some arguement about does it come under the aircraft union or being wood go under the carpenter's union....

No seriously, i really really suck at mottle jobs but i wanted to do a "tropical 229" inspired paintjob...:

Please take it for what it is: An experimental plane with a badly done mottle... Still had fun with it though. Hope my Dragon one (for which i am planning a more conventional scheme) turns out better.... Write me up for that one as well Manny

The belly looks excellent Kermit!

The upper surface is a tad on the lime green side vrs. a more light sand or yellow to have the tropical or desert look. Possibly the aircraft can be called 'Kermit 13' or 'Frogger 229' (sorry yet it does look like frog skin!)

Next time try painting the molted color first then use blue poster putty in balls to mask the 'molts' spray the base color at 90 degrees to this and you will get soft edged dots or molting when removed. This technique works well for 'worm' camouflage also*

Yep, a little on the green side - but I can correct that in Photoshop! That undercarriage looks pretty complicated in 1/72 scale, how well did that go together?

Undercarriage is pretty easy to do actually... Only the front wheel needs gluing on three points. Best assemble that and glue it onthere while the glue is still wet.

Seriously, apart from the size it's very easy to construct.

That flying wing shape is impossible to make ugly. You know, short of a pink & purple splinter camo.... Looking forward to seeing your Dragon kit as well,

I'm not too crazy about trop schemes on late war a/c, especially since we were booted out in early '43, but I appluad the effort and give you extra points on getting it done so quickly, AND the fact you are going Horton times two with the Dragon offering!

Actually my thought pattern on the trop scheme was a "what if" 1946 idea... Suppose that last big german push on the eastern front worked out really well with the new wonder weapons and the germans reached beyond the crimea and into iraq..... That sorta thing.
