Yeah, I bid on one that was sittin' at 21.99 (the rest were "Buy Now" and priced at over 40.00!) and kept getting the "You've been out-bid" message, until I got it to 25.99, and it was mine!

For about six minutes...

So I bid it again, fifty-cent increments, but at 29.99, I was still out-bid at that point.. I decided that it was enough that I didn't let the guy have it for 21.99...

Checked Old Model Kits DOT com, and the cheapest one was 45.00...  Definately collector priced, not builder... 'Course it was in the original 1962 hardbox , so that was probably half the price right there.. There were two more, one another hardbox "first issue" at 59.00, and one with "First Issue-1962" sale pending" at 89.00! !

All this Monogram insanity puts me in mind of my experience over the weekend. Trying to get my hands on Collect-Aire's 1/48 F7U-1 Cutlass to build for my dad (his all time favorite plane). His 70th is this year, so I'm prepared to throw some serious coin after this kit. Went big (or so I thought) at $125. Got a message with hours to go that I'd been outbid. Thing ultimately went for well north of $200.

In other news...my $17 Airfix 109E-3 arrived today!

On the Bench: 1/32 Trumpeter P-47 | 1/32 Hasegawa Bf 109G | 1/144 Eduard MiG-21MF x2

On Deck:  1/350 HMS Dreadnought

I think the worst one I ever saw was a Monogram B-24J for sale with her fathers WWII pictures of his crew,,,really some things just shouldn't be for sale,,,but it gave her a reason to ask 125.00 (starting price) for a1\48 model bomber,,,,,Yes    Hans hit a good point (sorry for straying) "collectors" pricing on builders kits is killin me as well,,,,,,,,,,,,,,bty Doogs your FW109 looks killer!   Can't wait to see your build here!!

If you're building it for him, why not just grab a 1/48 Lindberg F7U kit and really give your scratch-building and Gizmology skills a good workout?

Considering it. But truth be told I don't really trust my scratchbuilding skills far enough to turn that kit into what I'd want.

You don't need a nut-for-nut, bolt-for-bolt duplicate, Doogs... That's the difference between "Gizmology" and "Technology".. You go for suggestion, rather than duplication...

If you can make a box outta styrene sheet the size of a 1/48 cockpit tub, some sidewalls crusted with little pieces of stretched sprue, sheet, and strip, wrpa some wire around a pin for an O-2 hose, and can rob an ejection seat out of another 150's jet, you can scratch-build about everythng you need, Pard... Wink I've seen your work... You got the skills, ya just ain't usin' 'em..

2 days left till the great build starts! 23 people so far and I bought the last of the paint I needed for the project. Only thing I still need to get is the pastels Hans recommended to me. Hopefully it turn out good (my skill with trying weathering)

So now my B-17 build is on hold for a bit.....

Does anybody know anything about this kit and is it worth picking up at the LHS for $20?

Yes...Thats the kit I'm building, only i'm not doing the tropical version. The hasegawa 109s are great kits, especially for 20$. This is a newer kit so the decals should be better quality. They are a little thicker than say cartograph, but they settle down real well. Go for it

Ok guys tomorrow starts the great build ( or hours for some like me will start when their time zone hits midnight) just as a reminder once you finish your build send me a private message with the link to your final photo so I can update my first post to show your nice 109's.

I am going to do mine all hand painted, similar to the yellow 5 but different. This will be a learning experience for some of us like me so keep updating the WIP pics please!! Lets all have a fun time and with 23 entries this should be enough for a "Gruppe" in the Luftwaffe!

Looking forward to seeing everyone's 109s come together!

I won't be starting for a bit yet - still busy with those two Jugs and the Fiat - but will be paying lots of attention to this one!

Well, I have a change of plans. The vintage Airfix 109 in 1/24 I bought is missing a lot of small parts. Trying to get this rectified with the seller, but at this point I suspect I'm stuck as it was sold with "no returns". I have a 1/32 Pro Modeler to fall back on. Guess I best switch directions to that one. John.

Ah! Got them! Zvezda BF109f2 and Tamiya Afrika Kublewagen with figures! Gonna do a little display/dio with a Trop F4. Might add more figures if I can find some that will work well, but for now the plan is a nice simple scene sort of like the one depicted on the Tamiya box. Now the only question is, do the 109 dio first or hit the Gabreski P-47 for the Big Beautiful Jugs GB... Such a dilema. Of course, I need to wrap up the X-wing I'm currently working on. Should be the next day or two!!
