Hans von Hammer

 pzl66:

Hans was a lucky one who got to fly in the last flying Helldiver...

Betcher Azz...  Toast

The pilot didn't like it when I lowered the turtleback though... There was a fair amount of tail-buffeting when it was down and the guns out..   But it made for a helluva "Hero-shot", lol... Too bad we couldn't do a dive-bomb run though.. The bird is limited to a max 3-Gs...  Normal pull-out at "Bombs Away" was about 7-8 Gs, so we didn't, couldn't  do one..

The only CAF aircraft that are allowed to exceed the 3-G max are the "Val" replicas in the Tora Squadron...   I dunno what their max is, but from watching them do their bomb-runs, I'd SWAG it at 5 Gs..

Now it sounds like your trying to make some of us jealous...

I'll (sadly enough) have to wait to see if I'm in till mid july, after my trip to the US, so I can see if I will find a couple of Helldivers here and there...
If I only find one, I want to keep it till my skills are better, I don't wanna screw up my favorite plane.

With regards, Ninetalis.

Nope, not really, and going to the UK isn't something that you do on a daily basis you know.
And even so, the only thing that I know so far to get easier to come by in the UK than Belgium are the Great Wall Hobby kits. No monogram's, I saw a Accurate miniatures once, but I didn't realise they were so hard to come by till it was to late that it was gone...

RoG released one many moons ago, and if you're lucky you find 'em on an IPMS Expo, and I won't be going to one of those till after my US trip.... (and even so, you really have to be lucky till you find one for 30euros or less)
I'm willing to pay that, but really.. can't find one...

Only ones you can get are in 1/72, academy or so...
And the only rule I have is , NO NON-1/48's...

I'll see what I will find...

With regards, Ninetalis.

I'm in. My Helldiver arrives tomorrow. Decals and a few small details this week.

Someone should really start an official GB thread though.

...just sayin'...

Well since a certain person got people all fired up for a Helldiver I think he might get the ball rolling on it...

*ahem -

Herr Manstein to your post. Ist Gruppe Lieter für und Helldiver Build!!!

I'm on it...be on the lookout for the thread soon...ya'll M 0 J 0 's just need to worry about building the freakin' things and posting pics....I wonder if Fermis was bluffin' about throwing in on this one?

More folded wing fun on the way!

First the Val, now this!!!

One of these guys showed up on my doorstep yesterday from Sprue Bros.  Big Smile

The Helldiver has always been one of my sentimental favorites.

My father was a PO3 Aviation Metalsmith and patched them up when he was in the Navy.

I built my first Monogram 1/48 Helldiver kit when I was in the third grade back in 1962.  I've got a collection of them in my stash, plus a couple of the ProModeler version and some 1/72 Airfix kits, but there's always room for one more...

My ProModeler's out for delivery right now. Should have the Victory decal sheet and some Eduard goodies (mask, zoom interior) in the next day or so.

Bet fermis'll be done before I even crack the instructions.

When have I ever bluffed?!!!

Definitely in with the 1/72 (on it's way to me now)....maybe....MAYBE...I'll throw in a 1/48 Pro-Mod as well. Starting back to work next week, so I've got 6 months of slow building....even slower than I've been lately.

Are you not able to order one from the US. I have oredered from SB a few times, usually kits i can't find over here. Even with postage its cheaper than if i could get it here. And they take paypal if you don't have a credit card.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Used some tips from him on my TBM Avengers. Still picked up the good ol Squadron Signal book for the Helldiver. I have a book for every model I do and then some.

Yeah, now that's what I'm talking about! Toast
About where I could find one, I'll look into it, maybe I'm lucky next IPMS and I'll find one, maybe I will be luckier and RoG will release one anytime soon (don't think so but it would be nice!)

Just received my Monogram (Monogram Mafia material) Helldiver. Very basic kit but looks pretty good overall. Raised panel lines and rivets so it will be a little different than what I have been normally building. It will be needing more detail though which I am fine with. Just waiting on my Helldiver book though...

So...since there's no official GB yet, I'm going to ask here...

What's up with the interior colors? My ProM kit says chromate green for everything that's not blue, basically. Is it more an interior green, or a bronze green, or what?

Landing gear? The instructions again call for chromate green everywhere. Bays, struts, even the wheel hubs. Only thing that's not is the oleo. Seems weird, and I've never seen anything like it on US aircraft. And would it still apply to an overall sea blue scheme? I know several aircraft (Corsair, etc) were just painted sea blue everywhere, even in the gear bays.

Wheels? Did the Helldiver share wheels with anything else? Kind of like how the F4U and F6F have a common wheel, or the P-61/B-26...

Pretty much Doogs. Green everywhere.. The wheels could have wheel covers on them too but those where colored the same as the aircraft.

Here's the "CAF" bird...gears are green, wheels/hubs silver...

Another museum piece, showing about the same (little different in shade)

The best way to make it rain is to be ready to paint lacquer...

I think all of those dials are on one clear carrier film, so it isn't as bad as it seems...
