I think they even named a rock band after this technique:  "Smash Mold" or something like that...

Yep. I think he also uses the plastic from 2 litre soda bottles too.

Manny is correct....this particular plastic came from a perfume set I got my wife for x-mas last year....not so much for the perfume, but more for the plastic!

I have used other blister pack plastic also, some works, some just doesn't. As for the pop bottle plastic....that's a NO GO. You'll just get a melted hole before the plastic even gets soft.

I stand corrected sir!  Someone was saying they used soda bottle plastic for smash molding, thought it was you. I have a plastic tote full of plastic wrappers and such, much thinner than soda bottle plastic. Anyways, nice work you`re doing on your Beast!

 Manstein's revenge:

Since Fermis is AWOL I'll take a stab at that since I believe he mentioned this technique once before.  I believe he uses simple packaging material for the clear plastic---something that you might buy that has a clear blister pack over it...I think he simply heats it and then "smashes" it down over his "master"...

Makes sense...leave it to Fermis.  I know if I try it I will burn my house down.

Thanks Fermis, not to make it anymore difficult to chose a scheme..

 That's why I'm here!Wink

Been slackin on updates.....time has not been on my side!

There was a huge gap behind the pilot seat bulkhead....a little sheet styrene to the rescue.

http://i661.photobucket.com/albums/uu340/fermisb/2012%20models/Helldiver/IMAG0793.jpg?t=1337820094

Guess I forgot to snap a pic of it sanded down.....not hard to imagine.

Moving on.....The kits clear parts will not fit in the open position....but the kit does have the option to pose the rear deck up or down.....Tongue Tied. I wanted pilots and gunners canopies open, so I thermo-formed new ones.

....and I did some painting over the last few days!

Wow---that smash-moulding still amazes me.  Where are some pit pics?

I've got Atlantic markings I'm not planning to use if you're interested. Leaning toward an SAR craft myself...

I may have to take you up on that. Right when Fermis mentioned that I looked up at my Atlantic Avenger and oh how it would look good next to it..

Once I get to a good stopping point with the Avenger I will start the Diver.. Now I stuck though trying to figure out which scheme I'm gonna do.. Nicely weathered "Tri-color" or the big blue beast... Then Hans comes along and drops a Shrike in my mind.. And then there is the British Reject.. So many choices..

....or grey/white Atlantic scheme!!!

Thanks Fermis, not to make it anymore difficult to chose a scheme..

Only the first few had the wing fold, the rest were fixed wings. After the USAAF deemed that dive bombers were no longer needed they were given the the Marines.

The one I posted was without wing-fold, but it was kinda unique flown by a WASP in target-tug squadron

 Hans von Hammer:

Nuts...

Ok, I'm in... But there're too many blue ones in the build..

1/48 Monogram SB2C kit converted to A-25A Shrike..

Now when you say Monogram are you talking about the vintage folding wings model or the new tool?

I'm talking about the classic, 1960s Monogram kit....

Monogram and new-tool is a contradiction in terms...
