the KA-6D and A-6E are the best of the "easy to get" 1/72 Intruders out there,,,,,,the same molding is available in a Tamiya boxing

overall, I like the range well enough,,,,,with only just a couple of nits

the A-6E,,,,no complaints

the KA-6D, I wish they included the refueling store like Fujimi did in their tanker boxing,,,,,otherwise, again, no complaints

the EA-6A boxing,,,,,,,well,,,,,it sort of would have been nice to have included the longer nose and shorter radome of the EA-6A in that kit,,,,,,,instead of just adding the football up on top of the tail, with a standard radome and nose on the front,,,,,,,,it also would have been okay by me if the kit came with the correct version of ECM pods for the A version

but, the bomber and the tanker still come out as being the best that is easy to get today

Yes, folding wing option is correct. Not really a BIG MODERN US NAVY GROUPIE by any means, but the Intruder is "ugly enough to be interesting", and has folding wings. Glass / details / decals look good in the box - SOLD!! (well, stolen, for $7cdn...)  Much larger machine than I was expecting.

That one is darn-near perfect - hoping I can make a decent product out of mine. Open panels etc = flashes of red, should brighten it up some anyway.

I read your "big modern Usn" line,,,,,,,and I realized

the Intruder and Tomcat fans have pretty much joined up with Skyhawk and Phantom fans like myself

both groups model aircraft types that have long been out of production,,,,,,and long out of service

just pause a moment and think about it,,,,,,,,an overall Light Gull Gray Tomcat would be from 30+ years ago now, (that was the Tomcat's second or "new" paint scheme, lol),,,,,those USN markings in that Italeri boxing are for a mission flown 20+ years ago

Oh, I know, I kinda laugh myself! I've always loved WW2 subjects, and early jets (into the '50s) are intriguing. I sort of refer to anything from the '60s & later as "modern".

From what i could find in my limited modern aircraft referances, the A-6E entered service in early 1970. So at a guess, all versions upto and including the E.

Of the 84 Intruders lost to all causes during the war, 10 were shot down by surface-to-air missiles (SAMs), two were shot down by MiGs, 16 were lost to operational causes, and 56 were lost to conventional ground fire and AAA. The last Intruder to be lost during the war was from Attack Squadron 35 (VA-35), flown by LT C. M. Graf and LT S. H. Hatfield, from the carrier USS America; they were shot down by ground fire on 24 January 1973 while providing close air support. The airmen ejected and were rescued by a Navy helicopter. Twenty U.S. Navy aircraft carriers rotated through the waters of Southeast Asia, providing air strikes, from the early 1960s through the early 1970s. Nine of those carriers lost A-6 Intruders: USS Constellation lost 11, USS Ranger lost eight, USS Coral Sea lost six, USS Midway lost two, USS Independence lost four, USS Kitty Hawk lost 14, USS Saratoga lost three, USS Enterprise lost eight, and USS America lost two.^[6] Although capable of embarking aboard aircraft carriers, most U.S. Marine Corps A-6 Intruders were shore based in South Vietnam at Chu Lai and Da Nang.

When I was a little one I got to see those tadpoles drop bombs on a Tiger Cruise with my Dad. Impressive stuff!
