Any of our Canadian friens know the correct red color for the Canadian F-104 "red indian"?

rangerj,

There were two different 421 Squadron 'colour bird' schemes; the 'Coke Bottle' and the 'Toothbrush'.

Having corresponded with a pilot who flew both the 'Coke Bottle' and 'Toothbrush', he confirmed that Model Master Guard Red was an almost spot on match for the real aircraft.  He said that it was definitely not day-glo nor was there an orange tint to the colour.

Hope this helps.

Very nice "missle with a man in it". The 104 is a favorite of mine as well. I had a chance to talk to a 104 pilot and he said it was a fantastic airplane, but has no forgiveness what-so-ever. He further said the pilot must stay out ahead of the airplane at all times especially when landing. Airspeed is critical. The recommended procedure for ejection in the early A with downward ejection was to roll the airplane on its back anhd eject. The early 104s also had a problem with shooting themselves down. The Vulcan cannon exaust gasses were being injested into the engine and causing a flameout. There was a story in the early days of the aircrafts service life that the aircraft was running into the 20mm shells when it fired the cannon at high speeds. As far as I know this is an old wives tale. Anyone know more about this. Again Toshi, you did a great job on the 104. Any of our Canadian friens know the correct red color for the Canadien F-104 "red indian"?

Great recovery from painting issues Toshi. You did a nice job as usual. It's one of my favorite jets from the 50's era and you did it proud.

Thank you 1943Mike!  I had some issues with the F-104's NMF.  Ultimately, it was worth the extra effort on my part, the NMF on this build was very difficult for me.

Thank you so much BrandonK!  The NMF was my biggest challenge of this build.

Nicely done, Toshi!  Seeing the actual kit built up in these markings is so much more appealing to the eye than the side views in the instruction booklet!!  I have one of these on my desk and may have to break it open very soon.  Thanks for the inspirational work.

Thank you sir, I hope you do open your kit!  I'd love to see it.  Thanks for the visit!

Toshi,

Nice build. I would guess that it is finally finished.

I have a question: regarding the title to this discussion topic, how did you chand the word "WIP" to "Completed"?

Thank you sir, yes it's completed.  As for the change in the topic, you just go to the bottom of your first thread.  Then you scroll down to the Edit, Reply, and Quick Reply buttons.  Click on Edit, then scroll back up to the very top of the thread.  You can then Edit the title page.  I hope this helps.  Let me know if you're having issues.  Good luck!

Nicely done, my friend! You make me want to build one for my own collection now. :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Thank you my friend!  I can definately recomend this kit.  Of course in your hands, you'll be doing some scratch building and some of that        M. Brindos magic.

JOE RIX

Well, given your issues with the initial paint and the subsequent magnificent hand paint work, your 104 turned out fabulous. Seriously Toshi, that is one fantastic recovery on your part. Well done indeed.

Somehow I missed the pics of your work room earlier and just recently caught them. I had to chuckle at the litter boxes in your man cave as this is how it is for me also as I share my room with my best bud "Sparetire".

Thank you JOE RIX!  With the paint issues at hand, I was very hesitant to handbrush the F-104G.  I was just frustrated with the way the paint peeled off.  With that being said, my other build, the F-22 Raptor paint did not have any issues.  Weird isn't it!

Here is (Finally, after the paint issues) the completed F-104G Starfighter.  If it weren't for my paint mistakes, I feel that this kit is a very decent Revell model.  One mistake I found was that one of the red stripes by the tail section, was numbered 1.  It should have been number 21.  Other than that, the F-104G went together relatively smooth.  Some very minor putty work, some sanding, and with a little adjustments, this is a fine kit.

Gamera

She's looking great so far!

Thanks Gamera!  This paint job was very frustrating, especially after I let the MM chrome silver cure for a week.  I did not expect it to come off with the tape, then again my dad always said; "Expect the un-expected".  LOL!

Toshi, that is a very impressive kit. You are really knocking this one out of the park. I really like this one.

Thank you my friend.  There's some unusual colors for the paint sceme that I've never done.  Thanks for the visit.
