What's better than one Allison V-1710?  Two Allison V-1710!

Here is just one of the engines, I have to make the other one this evening.  

I dressed the engine up with Vallejo Acrylics, Vallejo Weathering Set For Green Vehicles (A weathering set for armor), and Tamiya Weatherine Master C.

Great lookin kit there Toshi. Just a thought...could you put a few small fishing weights in each engine to weigh the nose down?

It is a very fun looking build as I've never assembled a WWII fighter plane this big.  It's crazy!  LOL!  Yes, those are rubber tires.  I'm going to use them as everything in this build is OOB.  Thank's for the visit!

I'm sure you know this, but if not, be sure to coat the plastic wheel sections with something, a clear coat, to protect against the rubber before you install the tires.  There have been cases of rubber tires actually eating the plastic, I believe it was ATM/Ertl's F7F Tigercat kits that were notorious for this.

 

 

 

 

 

Yes the old AMT Tigercat tires are notorious for eating the plastic after a while. I have resin replacements for my F7 and suggest the same for the Trumpy tires. The weighted ones look specially extra sharp.

You got that kit for an excellent price, what a great deal!

This will be an exciting thread for me to watch. I'm hooked on your building P-38's .

If you're not going to hang this kit vertically on your wall, won't you need a LOT of nose weight to prevent it from being a tail sitter?

 

As for the nose weight, there will be none.  I am going to do some panel cuttings as the engine that is extremely detailed cannot be seen.  This is a common factor in the modeling world.  So it's up to me to cut out panels to view the engine and the armament area of which is also extremely detailed. So you see, there is no room for nose weights nor any kind of weights.  The only options I see is to 

1) Do a diorama and tie the front landing gear to the bottom of the base.

2) Utilize some stretched clear spruce and place it on the tail like a stick to act like a leg. 

3) Hang it on my wall.

Number three will be my chosen option, I already have a space dedicated to the P-38 Lightning.  In the future, when I get to a level of modeling like you and my fellow forum members, I will definately attempt to build a diorama with this giant beast of a fighter plane!  LOL!  Thank you Greg, for everything you have done for me!

The rest of the sprue are doubles so I will not include them in the photos as that will just be redundant.

Four inch drop tanks.  This just shows you the size of the Lightning.

Wing span of almost twenty inches.
