Looking good Toshi! One of the good things about building divine scale (1/72) is that you don't have to worry about masking the inside framing of the canopy! I often wondered how the Grumman planes did their wing fold and then one day when I was visiting the Cavanaugh Flight Museum here in Dallas, they had their Avenger out for some engine tests and folded and unfolded the wings for about five to ten minutes. A most impressive sight and feat of engineering.  I would have had to go with the folding wings as that would be the only way it would fit in my apartment! Looking forward to more sir.

lewbud, Thank you sir for the very kind words!  Especially the support you’ve been giving Ezra and myself.  As for the folding wings, amazing!

Oh great to see her all together and ready for paint! Yes

It‘s getting there.  Still, a lot of tiny detailed and very delicate pieces to assemble and install.  Thanks for stopping by!

Toshi: My Avenger is the 1/48th Accurate Miniatures kit. I don't remember which exact version though. I looked up kit boxes on the internet but I still couldn't ID it. Maybe I can find the kit instructions.

Great job there on masking the canopies. My most dreaded task with aircraft and the Avenger has so many transparent parts.

Masking on this kit takes time and an infinite amount of patience!  Lol!  Thank you for the kind words.

Thank goodness for masks because this plane needs a lot of them. All the moveable parts add to the complexity of how to manage painting and assembly. I remember the ball turret on my Academy kit and what pain it was. You are doing very nice work Toshi.

Beyond a doubt, the glass surface is intense.  I don’t think I could have done this kit without masks.  Especially the interior.  Thank you for such support as well as the kind words!

Hi Toshi,

Those masks are really going to make it look good, and I bet reduced the stress level a bit.

Yes, both the vinyl and (Tamiya type) paper tape has reduced any if not all issues.  Thank‘s scottrc for stopping by.

I actually found this 20 gauge black coated copper wire at Walmart for $2.84.  This will be perfect for the Trumpeter 1/32 Avengers brake line as it’s close to scale.

To my fellow forum members,

Here is the completed masked (Interior & exterior) ball turret.  I’m in the process of doing all of the clear parts as such.

This technique I’ve seen and read about.  By  placing masking internally and AB the glass interior the appropriate color, in this case green zinc chromate then AB the external color this should or would be real world correct.

Red vinyl will be the interior masking (E-Z Masks from Ontario, Canada) while the yellow exterior mask is a Eduard product.  I’ve used vinyl masks before and it definately works great.  They stretch and conform really well while protecting the adhesive site.

Toshi-  The last letter is the Navy designator for the manufactuer.   "F" was for Grumman, "M" was for General Motors, who built the same plane as Grumman, under license, as Grumman didn't have the ability at the time to build the numbers required, along with the Hellcat and Wildcat.

As an aside, Goodyear built the Wildcat, under license, as the FM-2, later ones had a taller tail.

Thank you goldhammer!  You’re a unfathomable wealth of knowledge!

Looks like a neat kit and the two of you are making great progress!!! Yes

I was inspired by your Avenger!  When I purchased this very same kit several years ago, you sent me photos of your Avenger.  That was a very nice build you did.  Thank you for the support in Ezra and my builds.

Oh really!?! I'd forgotten! This looks like a much nicer kit than mine. Glad to have inspired you- the Avenger is one of my favorite aircraft.

That’s something that stuck in my mind and I to the best of my abilities shall never forget that day.  I’d like to ask you a question if I may, what brand kit was your Avenger, scale, and type (TBF or TBM)?  Thank you in advance.
