Toshi,

Impossible to tell how much your grandson contributed to this fine finished kit but, no matter how much or how little, both of you deserve kudos for the end result. The finished model, as at least one other has mentioned, is, in my opinion as well, the finest completed kit I've seen you do. I would bet it's in no small part due to the participation of Ezra .. whether by building prowess or simply enjoyable company and motivation on your part.

I've not been doing much modeling since the weather turned nicer here in Oregon so it's fun to catch up once in a while.

I'll drop by the B-25 WIP from time to time also.

Thank you so very much in supporting our threads, we both greatly appreciated.  He probably, just an estimate did 30% of the build.  He does a lot of hand brushing and AB of parts.  Of course without question it’s with my help as well as my strict supervision!

One section he almost did himself is the torpedo.  He used a Tamiya sprue cutter to get the torpedo parts out, and utilized Tamiya Extra Thin Cement to fuse things together.  We both took the Tamiya White Putty and placed it where it was needed.  Then we AB MM Gray Primer sanded it down and AB the torpedo with a NEO by Iwata.

Please note his attention span is five minutes.  Lol!  So I have a iPad set up for him to watch cartoons.  If not he will play with his toys.  A great example is today, sunny and seventy degrees.  He asked me to take him to the park after we both worked on the B-25J.  So we both taped the seams up with Frog Tape and placed Tamiya White Putty where needed.  We went out to play then he had lunch and he literally fell asleep in his chair while eating his lunch!  Lol!

I too feel that this is a fine example of a good build.  With Ezra helping me (Papa) it is very inspirational and as you said “Motivational” on my part!  I know he and I will never forget our very precious time together.  Once again, a big thank you!!!

Your friend’s, Toshi & Ezra

P.S. How have you been?

WOW!!! Great job there guys! Beautiful job on the paint and great job with the masking on that crazy greenhouse canopy.

Thank you Gamera!  Thanks to the Vallejo Model Air WWII USN Paint Kit.  Yes, the canopy was insane but mask from Eduard offset the issues.

Thank you,

Toshi - That is one very nicely done airplane, convicingly realistic. Of all your models I consider this one to be the best, wonderful to see how much your skills have increased, over the relatively short span of your posting on the forums.

Thanks very much for the post and photos, so enjoyable to see.

Patrick

Thank you patrick206.  Your kind words are greatly appreciated.  I think having my grandson join in on the build made this an enjoyable endeavor.  During this short time frame, it was Members like you that inspired me to move forward.

Toshi,

You nailed this build right on the numbers.  Great work in the details, airbrushing, and as I commented before, you got the colors spot on.  This was not an easy kit.

Great job to the both of you.

Scott

Thank you scottrc, you humble and honor the both of us.  The more the details, the more the fun!  Lol!  I agree, not an easy kit but Trumpeter did a great job in the engineering and designing of the Avenger kit.  Once again, thank you.

I hope my Wildcat comes out as good as this one when I build it, Toshi.

I only build one kit at a time and never have more than that on the go as it is very easy to loose your place and spoil both builds which ends up being a waste of both time and money and that just isn't on!

As I have said, once the Shinden is done then My next build will be Amusing Hobbys' strabocran 16t. You see, I am switching to the armour section but only after the Shinden is done.

You will find I have answered your question in my Shinden build about my airbrush too and I hope to put up another update in the next day or so.

I also have a pre-order in for Airfix's 1/24 Hellcat which I would like to do in Fleet Air Arm paint rather than the all over dark blue. Something different!

This means that I am going to have to look around for masks I think. Should be fun. I saw this kit last year at Telford when it was announced. Judging from what I saw, there is going to be some fabulous builds as the detail is even more than their Typhoon!

That is one kit you MUST do, Toshi, my friend.

James

Your builds supersedes mines 10x‘s over.  But thank you for the kind words.  Ezra and I greatly appreciate your support and visits to our humble yet simple WIP build thread.

Several years ago, I couldn’t even hold an AB let alone use one as my coordination was atrocious.  Thanks to the support of members like you, with little baby steps I was able to overcome my brain issues.  Hence yet still, building more than one kit at a time is very difficult and confusing for me.  So I agree with your comment in this regard.

1/24 Hellcat sounds enticing!  Believe me you, I’d love to build these type of monstrosities of large scale kits.  The detail is to die for.  I know you have as well as mentioned HK Models 1/32 Lancaster Bomber but do you or will you purchase their 1/32 B-17 and or B-25?  If not, I built the Tamiya 1/32 Mosquito last year was it, and do recomend that kit.  Thank you in advance!

That is a superb build, Toshi. It makes me want to put down the Shinden and pick up the Wildcat, but I can't do that until I have done my due diligence and looked to see what is available on the AM scene For the cockpit, MG barrels etc.

After the Shinden I am starting my competition build for the other forum I am on and matching two kits together. The fit's kit is Amusing Hobbys gantry crane and I am matching that with RFM's cutaway Panther in a sort of  pairing up display rather than a diorama.

I do hope you will join in with those builds and they will have separate threads as I hope other members of the community Will join in. The more the merrier.

Come on over to the dark side for a build, Toshi and do as I do and split between the two. It is fun And it is amazing how many skills and techniques travel between them!

James

I’m positive in that no matter when you make your Trumpeter 1/32 Wildcat, it’ll be an awesome build.  I showed mines with the clear cowling, I rigged the engine up with wires.  I do like the see through models.  I shall move to the dark side but give me a little time.  Lol!  My TBI makes it difficult to jump back and forth as I tried that once and it was a difficult endevour for me. This is why I can’t do to kits ar once.

Thank you for the invite, I shall make due diligence.  Also your support for Ezra and my build is very much appreciative!
