Sorry guys... but I'm just about ready to call it quits on this "new" site. Your profile used to be at the top right of the page when you logged on, now I have to go through 3 pages to find it at the bottom of the page... you need to add to favorites or go through a long list of posts to find the ones yoy want, on my form page where are the newer posts? They start at about 4 yrs ago, and I cant find the newest ones... and ALL THE WHITE!!! Sorry, just venting, but I just resubscribed this month and kinda wish I hadn't now.

You are not alone buddy. I know that the staff is acting in good faith but unfortunately, this format is not quite working out for me either. The lack of color in the background just doesn't look right.

Before, you just clicked on the profile avatar on the right and got all my current posts but now as you said, that is no longer possible. Having to go thru several motions to get to a current post is anoying.

Why were our stars removed from our avatar anyway?

Is it just my computer or is this site very slow now? 

One of the things that helped me out here was going into the internet settings in the upper R/H corner of the screen and removing this site from the Compatibility View setting. It straightened up a little from there. There's gonna be some hiccups here and there but it's all a learning curve. Other sites are doing this as well. Model Car Magazine and Scale Auto Forums switched over to new formats last month.

Oh, thrills, they've "relaid the store" as it were. I do hate it when the familiar is torm away from you and replaced forcibly with 'something new and better" -- by somebody else's definition. If we were paying, of course, we'd have a say...

Well again... its been my observation over the years that "changes" are not always ment to benefit the user, but to somehow allow the administrator some advantage, which again isn't always bad, but not always good either. Having tried to read what others are saying about this , it seems to be running about 50/50 love hate or just plain indifferent.  It was also mentioned that "we don't pay for this". Yes we do... with our subscriptions. wish I hadn't resubscribed now... I would just hate not to be able to be here with you guys and gals due to the fact that even though most of us have never meet, I still consider you all friends. I'm really teetering on this one...not happy with this...if it aint broken, dont try to fix it.

Not a fan of this new site. Had to find this in the group build part of the forum,found another ,and have to go digging for two more. I HATE the fact that they managed to lose THIS forum,and I've been on it since almost last December(?),and it showed other crap I haven't looked at in 4 months! All that I have mentioned are NOT on my "your discussions" section.

Good evening gentlemen.  Looks like a lot has changed. Its a lot to get used to. I live in Chattanooga TN. My city has changed due to a terrorist attack where a muslim extremist murdered four Marines and a Sailor. Of course this is my opinion. I am still slowly working on my build. I am at the point were i need to apply molting by hand since I don't have an airbrush. I would appreciate some tips for hand applying molting. Thanks for your time.

Do you mean mottling?

If so, I use q-tips. Put the paint in a small cup(the fibers will get in the bottle),then press on a napkin like you would a brush in preperation for drybrushing, because you don't want a lot of paint (we are trying to simulate airbrush work). Then test on the back of your hand, till you get the look you want. The wrinkles on your skin help simulate a model surface.

Can also be done with sponges.

I've heard of that Q-tip method or sponge to do that as well. Haven't used it yet though. What do the results look like?

The technique is excellent for 1/72.

Here we go. I am calling this one finished.  This is my night fighting Bf 109D. 

I was originally going to have the canopy open.  But I scored the canopy before I masked it.  As it turns out that I scored the Squadron canopy in the wrong places.  I am therefore leaving leaving it closed.

Allen , i will be loking forward to that pic. I build in 72nd and have just about got the hang of mottling with an airbrush, but am always open to new ideas.

Ki, i really like that. Can't se anything wrong with it, but i do like the subtle weathering in the panel lines, thats really nice.

Kim, very nicely done. Excellent painting and weathering. I like it a lot.

Hey guys, I'm somewhat back again. Unfortunately my computer died on me and the new website design caused some issues with my phone.

I should have a working computer at the end of this week if everything goes as planned, so I'll just keep tinkering with my G-6 until then and hopefully have some more progress to show...

Its that time of the week again. And my first time adding pics in the new format, so lets hope this works ok. After the oils had dried, i added some shadow with Flory black wash. I then added all the pre coloured PE, seatbelts and painted in anything that wasn't RLM 66. I must say i am really pleased with the end look, slighly worn but not to much so.

I found the HGW belts to be awkward to put together but they look really nice. My only dissapointment was that they are only coloured on one side. I understand newer sets are coloured on both sides, but with these ones i still have to be careful how i position them.

I also found my first problem with the kit. This is how the cowling MG's are supposed to fit.

And this is how they look from the outside.

Just not right at all. So i have sanded down the raised bits which hold them in place, but going topaint them before fitting.

With the pit done, i got it fitted and the fuselage together.

The wings are just about done. But i am going to paint the wheel wells and radiator flaps before attaching. I'll also leave off the leading edge flaps to paint those areas.

So next up, i will get to the bit i like lest, sanding. But the seams look quite nice so that should not be to much work.

As i said to Mustang yesterday, i am really enjoying this. Its nice to be able to see the detail clearly.

And by the way, does anyone know of any 1/32nd scale maps. I think a map in the holder on the right of the pit would set that off nicely.

Actually the position of the guns is accurate. What makes you think it isn't?

Thank you everyone for the compliments on my Dora.  I really like the way she came out.  Had to change up how I did my painting and weathering.  The all black scheme was fun and pushed me out of my comfort zone.

All stuff I have that I trust, and I have a ton of 109 reference, shows it as Hasegawa has it. I have some things I don't trust that show it as you suggest. I also always check the drawings on the 109 Lair website for any questions like this. Their drawings show it as Hasegawa has it.

Mike, ye, my referance shows both barrel tips showin as well, but i don't have any clear pics of the guns on an F.

Please register my participation in this GB.After a 5 year hiatus i am ready to go but rusty and not as skilled as othr gracing this thread.

 i have a CH BF109E3 that i want to build as an E4.

it will be out of the box except for a new decal\mask set.

This is my first attempt at this scale. I got started today. When i work out how to post thm, i have some shots of my progress.

moose: Dang Kim!!! That's a nice lookin' D you've got there. I'll tell you these older 109's keep growing on me by the second! Sorry for the late reply as I've had a really busy weekend but am back now!! First off thank you for being a great part of this group build and to help make it the success that it's been so far. Secondly let me know which pic you would like to see in the intro and I'll get it posted for you. Lastly, if you feel so inclined grab another 109 kit and strut your stuff in here again. Thanks Kim!

Bish: I like all that work you are doing in a scale I can actually see something in there Bish! I had some trouble out of figuring out the cowl guns on the late 109's at first but Tuco's right , they are staggered. Keep it coming pal!!

Ernie: Man what a job you are doing outside! I'm about to have to do some work around the house myself that will prevent me from being at the bench..............after October!! The show in Austin is on the 10th of October and I aint missing it. My 56 Ford F-100 HAS to be done by then!!!! Looking forward to your return back to the bench as your progress there has been great thus far!

Thanks Joe. And ye, i have been doing some checking and he certainly was. Unfortunaly, my best referance is the Squadron 109 walkaround, but that is on a G, and they shows the guns much further out. But i am happy to stand corrected.
