Well, i thought i'd have more progress to show by now, but i forgot I'm dealing with a Revell kit.  So all i've been doing is sanding, Sanding and MORE SANDING!!! But for the most part this kit is really enjoyable, but i want more progress so i quit for the day before i got the "good enough syndrome"!!  After these pics were taken i had painted the intake trunks with the 1st coat of white, put the IP in the tub and started detailing the control stick.  Anyway on to the pics and as always let me know what you think......

WHY DO THEY DO THIS?????

And remember when i said i'd show what NOT to do with Tenex?  Well here ya go!!

All's good but sanding that mess was a real PITA!!

Nice work Ollie, its beginning to take shape and a nice looking engine.

Mists, good looking exhausts and intakes my friend. Seeing your fingers made me laugh as that is what mine usually look like when I am on the bench, good work.

I hope to get started on my JU88 this week. Finishing up another GB first. This one is going to be a beast with all the PE involved.

Mark, ollie and Mist086 you're all proceeding very well and Mist086 you did a great job fixing the "Tenax-Mishap"Thumbs Up [tup]! (Happens to me too with the Revell glue so I call it the "Contacta-Mishap"Big Smile [:D])

I'm still working on my previous model: I hope to be done for February. In the mean time I received the AM parts I ordered and chose an interesting paint scheme.

AAARRRRGHHHHHHHHHH.  Ran into a snag with the Rhino.  Was test fitting the fuselage together when i ran into this:

I had to shave off at least 1/4 inch to make it fit.  The instruction say to put the fuselage together first then the nose.  Well i figured out to NOT do this. You have to glue the nose on to the lower fuse then put in the cockpit then slide on the upper fuse.  I was worried about the major gaps it created on top, but thankfully the canopy hides it perfectly.  I'll post pics after i get it all put together

Nice progress guys. Where's ollie? I figured he'd be in paint by now.

That's a major FUBAR you got going on there, Mist. Is that a kit engineering problem?

I think so HK.  No matter how much i read the instructions or dy fit it just wouldn't go together.  I heard from another person who built this that the flange would fit under the nose cose, but this one is too thick so i just shaved it down slowly until it fit.  No problems now, i'll show the progress today later after i get the pit installed.  On another note, my Seats haven't arriived yet so i guess i'm gonna have to put the kit seat together.

Well got to the bench today.  Surprising huh?   Finished assembling the intake trunks and then attached to the fuselage.  Filled in all the craters and seams that created  YAY more sanding after my Mr. Surfacer dries.  Also put all the fiddly bits in the pit so as soon as i sand the fuse i can place it and finally close the Fuse.  Enjoy

Well, most of my current builds are in a holding pattern. I tried to do some airbrushing last night only to realize that my compressor had stopped working. I spent an hour taking it apart and found a small piece of the motor (a brush or magnet or something) had chipped off and caused a bunch of other collateral damage. It was cool to see the inner workings of a compressor, even though it puts a damper on all my painting until I get a new one.

I guess I will just glue together what I can on everything and get it all ready to paint.

Just FYI... The P-39 is on hold for a good while, probably end of march before I cut sprue... Too many GB projects in front of it, and I'm down to about 5 weeks left on one, so I have to concentrate..

I need to put another coat of white on in certain places to blend in some touch ups i did with another makers white. Then i need to decide on a green for the crosses on the upper surfaces. If anyone has any idea of the shade used on the crosses on the planes that where flown after surrender i would apreciate it. All i can make out from the photos is it is dark green. Im guessing the Japenese by this time in the war where not to worried about neatly painted white coats with exactly the same colour of green for the croses.

Nice work on those intakes Mist - and that Zeke is looking good too Ollie !

Well here's a start on the Accurate Miniatures 1/72 Phantom.

This cockpit isn't done - It needs a little more detail painting and I need to scratch a new control stick for the rear - you can see the broken part in the corner of the photo.

I really like the raised detail on this interior.  The side panel details in the cockpit are very sharp and deep.  It makes dry brushing a breeze.  I think it adds a little more realism than decals in this scale.

It's great to see things going on here and you guys are proceeding very well!

I'm still tackling with my 1/35 Pave Hawk and it'll take some time before I can start working on the 1/48 Black Hawk I got this year.

Drew, good to see you pop in.  Being too busy is far better than the alternative that a lot of people are facing these days with layoffs etc.

Got started on my Razorback. Thanks again John!

I have come to the conclusion that I am the world's worst photographer and so amount of advice will ever change that. This is my first time doing a sludge wash. I got a little carried away and did the insides of the gear doors so I'll have to re-shoot those.

Thanks for looking. As always, any comments or suggestions are welcome.

Jeff

Well, finally made a start last night and cracked the seal on my Special Hobby RAAF Beaufort.  Man, I had forgotten what 1/72 feels like !  First time with PE and resin too, so should be edumactional.

Jeff,

That looks like a great kit - and you're doing a bang-up job on that interior.

Very nice indeed !

Here's my update.  I finished detailing the cockpit of my F4-C this evening.  In this first pic you can see the repaired rear control stick.  I just cut off the broken one from its base and drilled a hole in the base.  I stretched some sprue, then heated one cut end near a flame to make a little ball on the end, cut it to length and stuck it through the hole in the base.  Voila !

So this brings me to that kinda strange point in building aircraft models - you know - you do all this fine detail work on miniscule parts - you finish the small interior and...  bada bing bada boom !  You slap four more parts on the thing and it looks halfway done !

Doh !    All that detail is still in there - really it is !

Here is a shot of the underside just to show off all the really fine raised detail in the gear bays and all over the whole surface.  VERY nice !

Thanks Zip - Whatta blast !

Very nice work Chris! Excellent cockpit!

I guess that's one of the reasons for getting an expensive camera, to show what things look like before you hide it away! Smile [:)]

Cheers,
