What figures and scale are you looking for Eric? I've sent bags of them as far away as Britain. All I have are pilots and occasional groundcrew.

Well I was looking for the figures that come with the Pro Modeler kit and anything else in 1/48 that may fit in the PBY since you can see the nav/radio area through the top windows.

Also a 1/72 seated pilot with a cap or crush cap would work.

Even something that can have the heads swapped.

Also does anyone have pix of the inside of a 5A ?

Mainly looking for pix of the bunk / galley area preferably with the bunks in stowed position.

The museum cutaway display is a 5 but I would like to see what the wheel wells look like on the inside.

Hi Eric! I have the pix in an S/S In Action book but I have no scanner. There are some interior pics or links to them posted in this GB IIRC. If you can't find them someone may help or I will look around. You may buy a copy of the S/S book used at Alibris.com for very little money. And they ship quickly!

Edit: I'll check the figure stash

Today is PBY Saturday !  Aaron's weighted tarps had the gears upstairs working overtime. I remembered I had "Sticky weights" from my Model RR days. I spent half the morning searching - but I found them .  These are 1/2 oz (14 gm) lead weights with an adhesive backing.  After mocking up  the wings and other parts on I found a 1/2 oz brought the bow (?) down where it should. I cut the weight in half and placed one under each of  the easy chair floorboards.

And I have to agree with everyone else on the penny tarps...sheer brilliance, Aaron!Bow [bow]

Nam, thanks for the advice on white weathering...when you say amber, do you mean that the white paint yellowed slightly?  I hadn't considered that...

Eric, if you can get Nam to divulge what page has what you need, I'll scan it for you...I flipped through the D&S, the Walkaround, and the In Action, but didn't see what you want...

Sean, you answered my question before I even asked it...1/2 oz total weight for 1/72, huh?

Ah! See!  One of those days! I hit the 'Post' button too quickly...

Eric, for your interior...for what its worth, check out this build.  I'm sure its been posted before, but it is immaculate work, and he didn't bother doing much at all to the interior of the wheel wells:

I think its safe to use that as reference.

Thanks for the link.

I actually have all thos pix saved.

I did watch a video on youtube that had a quick glims of what I needed to know.

By the way, while tinkering with the bulkheads and floors I realized the cockpit floor on the Academy 1/72 is wrong.

There shouldn't be that big open slot down the middle.

Time to use the 1/48 for reference to make a new one that will accommodate the wheel well below.

Since I have thin vacformed windows it will be seen. Wink [;)]

The 1/72 CG PBY progress has been good today. I actually could have joined the Fuse halfs , but since I decided to order a set of mask for this and the  1/48 scale PBY  .. I also ordered a Vacuform canopy set - waiting for that before I go any farther.

Bondo - this is for you, you commented on another thread about my Prop. Shaft blocks  - I did the same on this build. I like the prop to be one of the last steps. No mishaps that way. I cut a small square of styrene scrap and cemented the four contact corners. This way I can glue the Prop. on later without fear of the shaft falling in to never be seen again.

Sean, that is a great idea!  I'm gonna have to try that, as I usually lose my prop shafts for that exact reason.  Thumbs Up [tup]

I came across another cool website just now...its not useful to me, but all you guys building rescue birds should check it out...

http://www.pbyrescue.com/

If you go to their photos section, there's a lot to look at.

On another note, can anyone tell me if the part of the wing that the float retracts into is actually chromate primer, like Academy calls for, or if it was oversprayed with the undersurfaces color?  I'm toying around with an idea for a neat effect.  'The Dabster' was beat all to hell, with chipped and faded paint everywhere...I'm thinking about painting that part of the wing chromate primer, then applying chipped black paint over it, so the green shows through...Whaddya think?  I'm not sure if it would look odd or if it would work.

Cheers,
Alex

Hmmm Great stuff Sean! Great tip on the prop shafts!  Still haven't found my wheels? Huh? Musta put them in a real safe place to dry. The will turn up. Always do..  Been messing round painting stuff on and off all day to let it dry in between.  Trying to be a patient little builder.  Really I have amazed myself. These wheels have to be with-in an arms reach of my chair. I am just astounded!  I don't really need them right at the moment anyhow but it's odd ya KNow? Thanks for the info and offers but this is getting personal! Grumpy [|(]

Alex! You never said? Did you set a date? Got a ring?  What's the poop did you get down on one knee?  Inquiring minds want to know!  Did she at least say yes or just laugh? I'd make you shave before you kissed me!  Coor's breath! Yuck [yuck]

Good grief pick on Aaron day?

I lost the Prop, landing gear for a revell 1/72 Corsair several months ago. I put them in a ziplock so they would not get lost and .... I have not seen them since.Disapprove [V]

Aaron!  We're only picking on ya cause we like ya!  You're right, though, telling you guys about it completely slipped my mind...Sorry...Too many Catalinas!

I did it right.  I took her Dad out to the Boeing Museum of Flight (he's an airplane guy too) then to a nice Italian restaurant without her knowing and asked for his blessing.  A few days later, I took her up to her favorite mountain overlook of the city, then got down on one knee, in the middle of the snow and yuck and freezing cold in Seattle, at her favorite mountain overlook of the city at night on New Year's Eve, and...she said yes!  We watched the ball drop, and the fireworks shoot off the Space Needle.  Then we went back to her folks' house and told everyone and had a big party!Party [party]  I had gotten a ring, and brought it up with me, without her knowing a thing about it...so I put it on her finger then.  She loves it!  We haven't set an exact date yet, but its going to be late July or early August of this year.

And, yeah, I shaved first! LOL!  I'm actually a pretty clean shaven guy, it just grows really quickly.  If you've seen me in the last 2 Secret Santa GBs, I haven't shaved that morning...one day later, and its like I never shaved at all.

Anyways, we've been busy planning wedding stuff ever since.  She has a big deadline on Monday morning, so she's been at work all day today, which means a break from wedding planning, some time on here, a nice cold Coor's
Make a Toast [#toast], and some modeling time!  Hooray!

Thanks for all the congratulations, everyone!  We're both really happy!

PS - Aaron, check the cushions...that's where I lose things all the time.

Cheers,
Alex

Dog gone it Alex! It's guys like you that make life so rough for guys like me!  Sounds like a freaky harliquine romance! I was expecting you to toss her a six pack of Coors with a ring made from the pop tops and say something like ,"So uh you wanna get hitched or just fool around"

Seriously congrats to you both!  I'm still all choked up hugging my fuzzy blanket after reading it. Just don't tell my wife. I got that dag burned anniversary to think up something. I still like the six pack idea! Bow [bow]Party [party]Boohoo [BH]Thumbs Up [tup]

BTW I picked the historically worst weather day of the year to get married! She still made it. Wink [;)]

I hate rubber tires!  Ever since I built my first AMT Tigercat at the age of 8, just to have the rubber eat the plastic wheels, I've despised the use of rubber in kits.  I usually buy resin wheels, or dig something out of my spares box so that I don't have to use them.  Of course, the Academy Catalina comes with rubber tires...Of course, no one makes a resin beaching gear set in 1/72...Of course, my spares box comes up empty the one time it matters...

Ranting aside, how can I use these tires, (since it looks like I have to if I want beaching gear) without having them eat the plastic rims?  Sean, does your Catalina have kit have rubber tires? Blech!  I hate those things!

Cheers,
Alex

I was just reading somewhere on this very forum alex about that issue. Think it was over in armor.  The fix is easy. Simply paint all parts that will or could contact with the rubber.  They say the paint barrier is enough to prevent the rubber eating the parts.

Armor!? Shock [:O]  You mean...I mean...Armor??  Who goes over there?! Whistling [:-^]Wink [;)]

Thanks Aaron!  I'll have to give that a shot...maybe I can finally beat the stupid rubber tires. Can I paint them with normal enamel or acrylic?  Do they have to be primed with something weird?  I have never touched those darn things ever since that Tigercat...I guess I was scarred for life!

Alex
