Hiya Gang! The BVD took most of yesterday off as I felt the flu coming on (with all the attendant symptomsYuck [yuck]Sleepy [|)]Dead [xx(]) Nyquil, gin and sleep seems to have revived me! All Hail THE BVD!

Alex! Congratulations!!! Well Done! Here's to the best forever! Now you can start your own GB! 1/1 people!

Those rubber tires.....had you not already bought one.....a tire could've been a ring! As it stands.....put them on ebay as designer toe rings! Think of it as extra traction.

I heard that if you thin the hub paint color with acetone......the hub will eat the tire!Laugh [(-D]

BondoFace: Love catching up on posts when you hold a one-sided conversation with yourself!

Thank You ALL for keeping everything current!

Ha I enjoy Bondo's conversations! What you fellows missed is he is going to the beach Today! Supplies on the porch. Evidently I am not the only one enjoying the sunshine and outside warmth.  Frank the 68 was this morning, The sun is coming in my 2 open windows now, Fans a blowing and it's holding steady at 75 in my room!

Been working on the PBY last night and this AM! Joined the fuselage all up!  It is one very long curvy seam along the top and bottom! let me tell you!. Did it bit by bit getting as close as possible. Taked it in places with superglue and then used the liquid cement to weld it together.

Filled it bit by bit with some Mr Surfacer along the entire thing and commenced to sanding and sanding and sanding. Hey look there are my wheels! Party [party]

then sanded some more.

Did the large 5 part wing in steps.  Again little by little. Got the same seam treatment but wasn't nearly as rough as the fuselage with all the curves in it.

Got the wing looking almost perfect in the fit. Had to remove two locating pins on the rear back inside for the last two top pieces or they would have thrown off the fit. The large pieces really don't take much to throw off the angle and fit. A little descrepancy on one end equals a big gap on the other. How long is this wing like 2 1/2 feet? Looking large!

Going to take a quick food break as I am enjoying myself so much I forgot to eat then I am ready to start masking all that clear stuff that I Futured up 3 or 4 days ago!  Make a Toast [#toast]

Oh yeah? Alex! I don't think the painted type mattered as long as it was good and dry and covered the whole plastic part. Just need that barrier to stop the reaction between the rubber/vinyle and the styrene. Heck a coat of future might work too?  Yeah I know those Armor fellows... Laugh [(-D] But they deal with rubber and vinyl at lot on those kits. Tracks/ truck tires extc. Probably can trust them on that.

If Bondo gets sunburned it is still Roger's turn for First~Aid Whistling [:-^]

Aaron - you are making progress with leaps and bounds. I cant even begin to tell you how excited I am to see the progress you have made.  Thanks for the tips on the Fuse joining. I also commend you for the pictures Thumbs Up [tup] - when I get into something like that I just keep working and forget to stop and click a pic.  I will try the same method joining the 1/48 PBY so  mine doesn't look like I used a Hammer or my Boot ! Propeller [8-]

I got the wing sections on the 1/72 CG PBY late last night, all 17.25" worth Laugh [(-D]

Believe it or not I mucked off the bench today , and have been messing with a 1/72 Matchbox JU-188 for another forum I visit. (UAMF)

Thanks Ritchie and Sean! I thought I was actually accomplishing something today then Frank zips in and out working on 4 complicated builds at one time! Jeeze how to you keep up with that?

I got all my masking done! Wish now I had put my name in Nam's hat for those mask. That is a lot of masking and I never seem to have any Tamiya tape? Always mean to get some but always slips my mind!

Found the wheels when I took the photo's! I had painted them dark german gray and laid them on top of the German gray bottle. They blended right in! Good camo!  Saw them when I looked at the pics. DUH!  I knew they couldn't be far... BTW has anyone seen my propellers? Banged Head [banghead] Really need to straighten up the bench this is getting outta hand zooming from one build to the next! I am having more fun than a flea at the dog pound!

I was all set to tack on the mask window stuff and paint but almost forgot the stuff under the canopy. Just one part looked kinda empty compared to the pic in the instructions so I added a bit of clutter.

Nothing special but something in an empty area that shows up. After it dries Ill paint the fist coat the interior color and tack it on and go to town! It's getting there! Wink [;)]

Ok where am I at?

Seeing PBY's in my dreams at this rate!  I don't know if you fellows notice how I pre paint almost everything. Especially on larger models. The real benefit to this is to simplify masking. Stuck on the Canopy but painted the blisters separately just because they look a little tricky to position. You can see other than the canopy and blisters that masking is a simple quick thing now. Lightly brushed Zinc chromate green on the canopy in very light coats. This seals the mask and reduces the chance of bleeding under when it drys. Then it's a simple matter of a quick spray of the blue gray!

Wow that seam is looking much more better. ( Texas Talk) Ye Haw!

Stuck my wheels where I can see them! I call it Frank the Impaler style modeling! Laugh [(-D]

Here's the 411 from the Bondo Beach Expedition. We went out to Point Reyes with the two dogs, Ms. Bondo in the copilot seat and Ms. Bondo Jr. ; gunner, mostly aimed at the back of the pilot's head! No, she likes me.

A good time was had by all, temps in the sixties and later a full moon. We hiked on property owned by our friend Anne, who just retired from the State Dept. after 30 years in Beirut, Kabul, Delhi, Algeria, Morrocco, Tel Aviv and wherever else we needed someone who truly understands how things work. Mind you, Ambassadors come and go, but Annie as # 2 actually was the one to try to clean up the poop.

One of those places west of here where you buy a great big basket of live oysters, bring your own alcohol, sauces, snacks and friends and just have fun in the sun!

Actually your looking good there my friend of many different caps. Seems like the excercise is agreeing with ye!  Glad you had a wonderful day!

Aren't oysters supposed to be good for the lobito?

Look out Nam! Laugh [(-D]

Bondo - That is such a nice photo. I feel I should print it out and hang it up. "Yep thats my Uncle Bill and family" from my Wifes side of the family.  (we dont have any pics of her relatives as they dont allow cameras in the Nut House Propeller [8-] )

What does your Daughter do (school , work ) and how old is she ?  You wont believe this but I have only one pic of my Wife , Kids and I . It was taken two yrs ago on vacation by a stranger in a restaurant. Sigh [sigh] Plenty of them with the Wife, I always get left out as I take the pics.

Sure looks like a Very Nice Sunday Outing Thumbs Up [tup]

Aaron- no not a shank, it's an Oyster knife that has the same edge as a brick chisel. Otherwise I'm a minus digit dude. Big red glove hides the blood, really. I think this was the nicest day I've had in quite a while, this was a new oyster place we had not been to before, 20 bucks for 5 dozen if you shuck (or shank) em and we brought my favorite red hot stuff "Crystal", also "Mignonette" which is the label in the back of Nam's Frilly Shirts; lemon, Champagne, beer and wine, plus salami, prosciutto, gerkins, chips and bread. Come out and I'll show you a good time.

Sean- She is 18, and her talent is costume design, as well as an actress. She's about to graduate from Marin Catholic High School on the Deans List, and go to a Community College and then University of California. I'd like to see her get a job in movies or Theatre. Here she is this Halloween:

Bill - Tell her Not only did I think that was a Faboulas Costume my 17 yr old Daughter loved it also - Halloween is her most favorite holiday.  The oher 364 days out of the year she wears  "shirts with Pirates "  My Wife blames me for it. Confused [%-)]

Well I guess I'll call it qits for the night. Letting the future dry then decaling tommorrow when I get up.  I did a few more little things like add some copper wire brake lines to the big wheels. But I am rapidly running out of parts! Shock [:O]

Well here she sits future a drying to see if we can get those famous monogram decals not to silver!

See you in the morning!

You can see the paint on the wings leading edge is a bit rough. No problem it has those black deicing boots to paint on!  UGH!  Lotsa little details too add an a few for the specific Aircraft that I am modeling!  Woopie!

A real shocker to me was she sits on her nose but just barely. You can sit her on her tail as well. That weight Frank must be very precise but at least it works. The balancing act makes it easier and lighter on the smaller nose wheel so Hurray!

Hi all, i thought id pop over to see what all the fuss was about and Geeeez Louise these things are seriously huge in 1/48. Theyre big in 1/72 but 2 1/2 half ft in length, thats not even funny. I only hope all your ceiling joists are up to it if your going to have em hanging LOL.

They look like a great fun build as well. Loads of glass to show up all those lovely details.

Great work everyone, ill be watching with baited breath from now on.

Aaron- Sounds like the weight was just right, barely!  Enough to keep her on her toes but not so much as to put un-needed stress on the LG.  Excellent work mate!  Still in awe at how fast you can build something like this.  I better get started on mine SOON as Halloween is rapidly approaching! Shock [:O]

Did you ever find your props?  I've been scanning your pics looking for 'em but I don't see them anywhere.

Doing the slow and I mean slooooow! Process of decaling!  Almost all but about 2 are on the wings upper and lower. I probably could have made it easier on myself and decaled the wing before attaching it!  Next time around for sure!  Lots and lots of little stencils. Oddly positioned V  decals extc.

The Pro Modeler decals are bunk. To thin and fragile to really postion like they need. The Newer ones are thicker but stay together and are movable.  If all you have are the Pro Modler set you may want to try a spray of decal bonder to help them hold together or get little black letters all over our fingers and tweezers.

I put on all stencils as directed to show you all the effect. Wether you choose to add them all? Up to you as you can decide how much they show up.

Anybody recognize which one it is yet?

Solid white wing spares and the gear wheel well painting are all from a photo.

I am recreating the PBY-5A of General Roy S. Geiger (USMC) Commander of the Cactus Air Force on Henderson Field, Guadalcanal , 1942.   Piloted by Major Jack Cram who retired out in the SF Bay Area.

Nicknamed the Blue Goose! The name appealed to me as we call or blue switch engines that nickname.  Waiting for the Future to dry so I can tackle the bottom wing!

Aaron - Impressive , I cant believe how you have Blazed through your build. Bow [bow] I think when Guy made an appearance it was to call his elfs back home and also to raid your wine gum.

Did you actually clean your bench off some to do your decaling ? Where are your props ?

Back where I came from there was a "Galloping Goose" used on a Railroad Wink [;)]

Ah thanks fellows! I'm just doing a little at a time.

Nam I used the Pro-Modeler directions. They got really good ref photos. You can clearly see the brak lines and how they follow up the rear spare into the wheel well out of sight. Also look at that scissor gear. Rally a candidate for a PE replacement with the hollow holes and all. Best I could do with the thick kit pieces is carve out indentations that shape and paint them black.  The kit pieces are just to thick to thin down. I guess you could make some new but that is a lot of trouble as there are 4 of them.

Also the Controls on the canopy roof! Good pic same source.

Lastly I found my propellers They got snagged in the mini-blind when I lowered it. Were way up high in the window. Sign - With Stupid [#wstupid]

Thanks Bondo! The Pro Modeler Kits were re releases of previous Monogram kits. Some upgraded some not. Some had extra bits some didn't. Some all you got was an extra option for markings.  One thing was the instructions were made to include ref pics and notes.  Why they aren't useing them now I have no idea they are quite good!

Above Thom has included the example of the PBY Pro-Modeler instructions.
