Big Sign - Ditto [#ditto] to what Bondo said!  Absolutely!  If I make a suggestion, buy a PE set that is on clearance at squadron or elsewhere. Fold it , glue it , and paint it.  If you lose a piece, or botch the folds, it won't matter, and it'll be great practice. The old fogeysWink [;)] will tell you can get away with just using two razors or flat nosed pliers.  I disagree.  Get a bug or etchmate or hold n' fold. It will save you a lot of heartache and you'll be way more likely to stick with PE instead of giving up.

I'm still waiting for my stuff to arrive from Roll Models, though I'm not worried about it.  It takes me forever to type on here, let alone have the concentration to build anything.

Cheers,
Alex

Thanks for the heads up guy's.

I was actually looking through all the parts deciding on what to use.

Since my small birds are civilain for the most part I won't be using the guns and gun mounts.

Might try them on the large one since that one will be military.

I have read that putting the pieces in vinegar will etch the surface and help in giving the paint something to stick to.

Yes Eric.....I recall reading that tip about the vinegar, it seems sensible.

Just don't dip it in Coca-Cola.....it might disappear!Laugh [(-D]

No, it is NOT the weekend.....but CT is socked in with a wicked snowstorm. Not a blizzard mind you, but my PBY is iced in! (Correct Johnny T?) Actually my PBY's are safely boxed for this weekend's move.

However! I laid in a few cases of ALE for the duration and there is no work today with all the amateurs on the streets!

The BVD is busy taking down the remainder of the bench for relocation, getting ready for an ale.....and watching the snowfall.

Press on Mates! Radio Shack may sell a braided cable that replicates scale mooring rope (speaker wire with insulation off?) Just a thought on a good detailing subject.

Off to work.....I may be off the site a day or two this W/E while getting settled.....but prolly not.

FORWARD!..........ALE!

The BVD!

LT - Best of luck with your Move and Relocation to a new House. Hope it is a short jaunt for the weather you are Having. If the snow gets too deep , call upon Frank and I. He can snowblow the path and I will mush the sled team in behind him to get all those models moved Safely.

To the rest of you guys in stormy weather - Keep the Ice and Snow buildup off your Wings and Fly Safe ! Thumbs Up [tup]

Does anyone have unused 1/72 figures with ball caps?

I'm still also in need of a pilot, just needs to be a seated figure in shirt and cap.

Basicly a bush pilot.

I'm modding a figure with a carbine, he just needs a new head.

Another update on the crunchfest. Laugh [(-D]

The cross beams will mostly be covered and barely scene so the fact that they moved and got wonky while drying won't matter, what little will be seen you won't be able to tell they're off.

I found some fabric ribbon in my stash that has a very close ribbed texture similar to the walkways so I Ca'd a piece down on some styrene so I could use it thoughout the plane.

Should look pretty good once painted.

Bulkheads are nearly done.

Still need to put in the vertical ribbing in the hull, than I can start on adding furniture.

I also started making accessories (cargo) to go inside.

Eric- That is some damn fine work!  Worthy of an extra mug o' torpedo juice if you asked me.  Well done mate! Approve [^]

Tis the weekend, and the lads drained the dirty fuel outta the torps and scraped a little slime outta the bilges.  Mixed with a little turpentine, it almost tastes like a daiquiri! Tongue [:P]

Eric - Your PBY is looking really good. That is a lot of work and nice detail Thumbs Up [tup] I checked for some pilots for you - None all I have in 1/72 are some odd looking Bomber dudes.  You most likely will have to scratch build ball caps out of a putty like "Milliput"

I have my 1/72 PBY back on the bench again. I have spent the last few hours cutting out a Squadron Vacum~form front dome . A whole bunch of sanding and test fitting.  Had to break out the Dremel and work the fuse a little bit as it made contact in places.  The reason for the Squadron dome is it does not have the slot in it for the gun to be sticking out. In all my reference pics of the Coast Guard PBY there is no weapon.

I guess the threw empty rum bottles at their targets Laugh [(-D]

Frank - There is nothing better then Beverages on Tap Tongue [:P]Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]Make a Toast [#toast]

Howdy my Squadron of Misfits!

The BVD begs forgiveness for not being very proactive here in the GB. Been very busy getting all the ducks.....er, PBY's in a row for my upcoming move.

I wish to thank you all and the lurkers for getting the GB over 10,000 views! Hardly a challenge to the NAWGB, but very respectable!

Congrats again to Richie for his Reader's Tip being published in FSM Magazine! I've seen those brushes but never made the connection! BTW.....FSM'er El Jere is featured in the Reader's Gallery with his Argentinian Grumman Duck......and the doog is lauded for his tips and techniques from a reader in the Letters pages!

Of course, the XO practically owns Reader's Gallery.......so much so that they have to space out his submissions so as not to have to pay him a salary!Laugh [(-D]

Eric! Thanks for the exploded photo! Very nice indeed! Sometimes an inspiration such as your textured flooring gives a modeler a rewarding experience whether it will be 100% visible or not. I believe your hard work is inspiring everyone!Thumbs Up [tup]

Lastly, Thanks to the XO for minding the cockpit and fluid dispersal (disbursal?) from TJAG!

TJAG.....(or tjag).....is the title (tittle?) I have bestowed upon the XO's Torpedo Juice Ale Gal!

All Hail The XO!

Most excellent work there Eric!  I have to keep reminding myself that it is 1/72 with all your adding?  Only suggestion I may have for figures in that scale is the little plastic soldiers in 1/72 by Matchbox or Italerie?  If you do searches on a model website there are more of those you can shake a stick at. Cost about 5-7 bucks and a great variety. Details are pretty good as well. There are kits like the nato ground crew or even Afrika Horps in that scale that have ball cap style head gear. I think the Nato crew really looked  like baseball caps. I had some somewhere but can't find them. I'll keep looking!

Thanks Everyone for the encouragement, it's much appreciated.

Summit, Thanks for taking a look though your spares box, I'll look into your suggestion.

As it is the guy with the rifle will be getting some magic sculpt nod's anyway.

Sfcmac, Also good suggestions on figures.

It's just to bad they don't make tropical pilots for the non combat birds.

Man I wish I had a hobby shop that was closer than an hour away.

In honor of Namrednef giving the booze girl a title perhaps something a bit more appropriate to the GB.

Grab it before Photobucket removes it.Wink [;)]

Eric - I know what you mean about being so far from a hobby shop, it is a 160 mile round trip for me also.  It is really agravating when I run out of a certain paint color.

Eric here is what I was speaking of or at least similar.

You get like 48 figs for 8 bucks.

Here is the search link Gotta find something in there they even have 1/72 prospectors.

Darn near 800 results but if you look at mechanics they mostly wear ball caps.

http://www.greatmodels.com/~smartcart/cgi/search.cgi

Good golly Sean!  You gotta plan a vacation to make a trip to the Hobby store!

Eric gets cudo's for tatto removal skills!

Thanks for the link.

There is suppose to be a shop in Modesto that I haven't vertured off to find yet that is the one about and hour away.

My usual hobby shop is in the SFBA about 2 hours away (one way to both shops).

Wish I could afford to move back to the BA.

Glad you like the pic.

Personally I don't like tattoos or body piercing, that's why I removed them.

Just to getto.

If you wanna make a statment wear a T-shirt so when you get tired of it you can change it.

Like it or not Tat's and Piercing wounds are permenent.

Sfcmac,

Found some figures on that site that should fit the bill.

The other sites I've been to didn't have them.

Thanks.

I have officially broken sprue on this project, yay!!!

Party [party]

I'm excited about this one folks, should be lots of fun. I was going to deck this out as a black cat but with the lack of aftermarket decals I think I've changed my mind and will do this as Jack Reid's 44-P-4 from Midway instead. I was able to get decals for that on Ebay. Here's my meager start so far...

I do have a question for the wise that have already tackled the 1/48 Revellogram kit, I get the impression from the kit instructions that you basically can't see anything in the navigator's compartment, correct? I mean...for a Revell kit that part of the interior is very sparse. Fair to say you can't see anything without the doors being opened up?

Good start Tony!Thumbs Up [tup] Nice job on the belts!

Front page has been suitably updated!

The BVD is suffering from a lack of styrene! All WIP's and the Stash have been moved to the new digs.....along with all other modeling paraphenalia and refs.Boohoo [BH].....video games, most clothing etc. Dumped a couple C's at Wal-Mart over the weekend to help set up the new place.

Doggie status is still up in the air......but hopeful! But I gotta get out of here! Setting up the paint booth is going to be no trouble, either! The biggest thing I didn't move was my 2 year old 36" RCA TV.....why?......because it quit on me after the the mainteneance agreement expired! It's a plot. I tell you! A Plot!SoapBox [soapbox] I'll haul it along and get it fixed, though. At first I was afraid I hadn't bought the extra maintenance agreement, because I rarely do buy those things. But I bought it and they waved the magic wand over it telling it to die right after expiration.

My bad!Dead [xx(]

Moving out of this hell-hole (roomie, not conditions) soon has made me think often of my friends here at FSM and it makes the workday go smoothly. I can't wait to get settled and start building and posting pics again! All you folks are an inspiration!

Doing the final move next weekend really fits as I can nail-down the final Power and Cable bills as the next billing cycle starts......then it's the (former) roomies problem!

I know.....more info than you needed....but The BVD respects and thanks all of you!

Tony- Excellent work on the office, very convincing stuff! Thumbs Up [tup]

BVD- Sorry that the saga is not quite over, but you seem to be in high spirits and that is a big plus.  Hope it all continues to go smoothly, and that the doogie situation works itself out for the best.  We'll keep our collective fingers crossed here for you! Approve [^]

Tony,

From most of the pix I have of Black Cats thei only markings are the stars and a number.

Really simple since they painted black over everything.

Looking good so far.

For the Nav/Radio Room I'd PM those that have finished theirs already about what can be seen, maybe get some pix of the area.

You do have the window over the top of part of the room.

If all else fails you can just paint the area Flat Black to hide the fact that it's empty.

Eric...

Thanks Eric. I certainly don't mind doing a little scratchbuilding to spruce this up a little...maybe the Navigator's table and chair. But I don't want to put too much effort if it won't be seen and I'm not feeling like opening up the doors.

Great Great walkaround link there Eric! Love it! Thanks very much!

Tony......of course I don't have my PBY's here as they have been moved out already so I can't talk to what exactly is visible. Others may help with advice.

Perhaps you could rig a battery powered LED that might illuminate the compartment through the tiny windows. That might be interesting! Otherwise, it's a flashlight and magnifying glass!Laugh [(-D]

I admire your effort though!

Glad to be of help.

For those interested and are near a Target they have some book lights on final clearance for $1.48 normaly $9.

I grabbed the last 3 at my store yesterday.

The whole thing is put together with screws so it should be easy enough to take apart and modify for a model.

 Edit.

Almost all the book lights are on clearance (diffirent models)

The endcap in books was just marked yesterday after I left work.
