Weekend Madness GB: NOVEMBER 29-30th 2008
Posted by razordws on Monday, October 20, 2008 11:40 AM

Hi All,

This is a weekend GB set for the weekend of November 29th and 30th.  Essentially you have two days in which to construct and build the model of your choice.

I have participated in several of these weekend builds and the intent is to HAVE FUN and not to sweat the details.  Just bang one out quickly like you did when you were a kid. Big Smile [:D]

A big thank you to Mark (mark983) for getting the ball rolling on this.  If this GB is successful he will likely run another Weekend GB in the new year so if you can't participte in this one keep an eye out for that one.

Here are the rules:

Open to everyone

Any model type (armor, aircraft, ship, auto, fantasy, etc.)

Any scale

Out of the box or AM - your choice

Must be completely unstarted (sniffing the styrene is okay but no snipping parts off and cleaning them up - if you've previously snipped the parts off the sprue thats okay but as of now no touchy!)

must post pics at the start of the unbuilt model

must post pics of the finished model at the deadline - if you don't quite finish by the deadline you must still post pics of the currrent state of the model at the deadline.

post as many pics of the progress along the way as you can

Since everyone's schedule and responsibilities differ there is no official start time.  However, the build will be limited to 48 hours, preferably over the Friday/Saturday/Sunday of November 28th to the 30th.  So, if you start at 5:00pm on Friday you must finish by 5:00pm on Sunday.  If you don't start until 11:00pm on Friday you have until 11:00pm on Sunday.

for those who want to participate but whose weekends don't fall on the traditional Sat-Sun you are welcome to participate on the days that you do have off (eg:Mon.-Tues) just keep to the same time frame and as close to the designated weekend that you can.Anything outside of the week before or after would not be encouraged.

HAVE FUN!!!

Matt (BigSmitty) has made us a Badge based on some timely inspiration from smeagol the vile.  Thanks guys, it's awesome, I'd join just to get the badge!  You are welcome to download and post the badge at anytime but please download and host on your own site to save me some bandwidth.  Thanks.

If you are interested let me know and I will add your name to the list.

Count me in...

Tamiya 1/48 StuG III B.  Will add in a figure from their 1/48 German set.  Nice simple kit, overall Panzer Grey.  Should be a blast.

Will this require a clock in the background of pic. updates ?  Im game add me to the list. Vintage Airfix Russian Pe.2  1/72 looks like a good choice.

Here I am. Wink [;)]

I think I'm going to go with the 1/48 Eduard "Weekend Edition" La-7...just to see if it can really be done in a weekend! Personally, I think if they really wanted you to be able to do it in a weekend they'd include the frackin' canopy masks...Angry [:(!]

Couple of questions - are we limiting this to two days, or a 48-hour span? Like, is Friday night at 7 'til Sunday at 7 appropriate? Or do we have to do Saturday/Sunday? Secondly, is a Monday morning posting of pics sufficient?

This should be really cool. Thumbs Up [tup]

Thanks guys for getting this rolling.

Roy, AM eh?  You really do like a challenge.

Sean, always wondered what that kit was like.  Looking forward to that one.

Frank, How'd that get in there, was eating a cheese string at the time.  Go figure! Angel [angel]

Sean, I don't think we'll do the clocks at the beginning, the point is to see what you have to deal with (how many parts, etc.) not to prove that you didn't start early.

Dupes, I figure when we get closer to the start date and most people have signed up we can discuss the exact start and end time that works best for everyone.  It may be that a 48 hour period during the weekend is best.  That way those that take their wife/girlfriend out on a Friday night (as you all should Wink [;)]) can start later but still have the same time frame.

LOL Dave!

I checked my stash, and the little 1/72 Hasegawa A6M5 is looking good to me.  Besides, it comes with a pre-painted canopy right from Hasegawa!  Saves me some time on that lil' gem. Approve [^]

Well, I am officially insane.  Count me in for this build.  I will be doing a 1/35 BMP-1 ( I think, will check stash and will correct if need be).  Lucky for me I have no AM or my favorite PE for this kit.  Heck it will be OOB.  A first for me. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]  In fact if I am remembering it has a killer syrian camo job that is just screaming to be done.

The weekend will be great, as long as my wife doesn't go into labor then.  She is due on the 5th of December.  Would be my luck though.

Ohh WELL sign me up anyway.

The badge is awsome.Thumbs Up [tup]

Andrew, wouldn't be a spead build without you.  Welcome to the GB.

Moose, awesome.  Is this your first?  Even if it isn't you might as well have one last fling before all the sleepless nights! Wink [;)]  Welcome aboard.

thanks, but no this isn't my first GB.  Been in a few others. Currently deeply invloved in the red storm GB.  I have more AM on my tiger than kit plastic.  But, I love it.  As for this one, I figured the less AM the better.  Might have to buy some, but no PE this time.

Looking forward to this GB and getting some stuff for it now.  And it is a BMP-1 with syrian markings.

Thanks

Ooo... nice kit.  I think I have an old one of those in the stash but I lost the canopy and haven't gotten around to vacuforming another one. Sigh [sigh]  since Rev-Ger re-released it I should write to them and see if I can get a replacement.
