OFFICIAL NOTICE!!!

I have not yet made an official decree about the start finsh time so here goes.  Since everyone's schedule and responsibilities differ there is no official start time.  However, the build will be limited to 48 hours, preferably over the Friday/Saturday/Sunday of November 28th to the 30th.  So, if you start at 5:00pm on Friday you must finish by 5:00pm on Sunday.  If you don't start until 11:00pm on Friday you have until 11:00pm on Sunday.  I would like everyone to have their completed build posted by Monday morning and even if it is not complete please post a picture of your progress at the end of the 48 hour period.

There are a few that because of other obligations plan to build outside of the official weekend, all I ask is that you also follow the 48 hour time limit rule.

That is all, go back to fondling your kits and planning your builds.

Sounds easy enough!

I heard to expct rain on Thanksgiving weekend! Sounds like I've got somebackground noise to model by

Warmest regards,

Roger

Okay Rog! Where you are that rain should keep you company for a good 15 minutes!Laugh [(-D]

Personally, I feel like Calvin holding his dripping Phantom. I've spent many hours trying to get Mozilla to let me post pics. I feel that doing a GB is worthless when you can't post pics.

I really don't think it's Mozilla's problem.....Photobucket is acting waaaayy differently than what I was used to. It used to be that every thumbnail pic had it's own list of options beneath it. Now, the options show up under a pic after you drag across it. I go through the motions....(it never says "copied" like it used to)....then when trying to paste on the site....Mozilla says it can't copy/paste!

Well, I was doing it up until a few days ago! WTF! I can't even attach a pic to an email. Photobucket has nearly every pic I own! Just dumped from the camera yesterday.

I am really bummed........wasted the better part of a day working on this trouble.

Thanks for the vent time

I've noticed that too with photobucket Nam but it still let's me copy.  I don't know what's up with that either.  I've noticed that there is a "link option" highlighted at the bottom of the list when you drag accross the image.  If you click on that it brings up a larger pop up list.  Maybe try that Nam.

So I made the 180 mile roundtrip to the "local" hobby shop to buy some Russian paint colors for the weekend build. While I am standing there with the basket of paint one of the Sales clerks tells me all Model Kits are 10% off.......eh big deal barely covers the tax. But as I am looking there at the kits I start finding some really cool stuff. "Pro Modelers" out on the shelf, and even more old classic kits.. The manager comes up and tells me the same 10% pitch, then he tells me Thanksgiving weekend they are having a "Buy Two get one Free" model sale. He asked I would be able to make it, I told him No as I only make the trip about once a month due to the distance. So he tells me he would honor it today. So I found a 1/48 Revell Junkers JU52/3m, 1/48 Hobbycraft Dornier DO17-F and a old 1/48  Airfix (not remake) Mosquito MkVI - all 3 for $24.98 What a Deal Smile [:)]  The challenge was smuggiling all three boxes back to the truck as I told my Wife I only needed a couple jars of paint Laugh [(-D]

Sean, good scoreThumbs Up [tup]

Not sure if it's the same DO-17 but you may want to check out this read at Swanny's website

I mentioned this over in the FAA/FAW GB so if you saw it there feel free to disregard.

Cut my hand quite badly today at work with an Xacto knife (yes, I use one there too!) and ended up going to the emergency room to get it stitched back up.  I had (luckily) just replaced the blade not 10 minutes prior so it was a clean wound.  I was reaching up to clean off my bench and as I brought it to the edge to grab it, it fell and landed blade down right into the back of my right index finger.  Bled like a stuck pig!  Probably won't get much bench time in the next few days to a week so my build this coming weekend may be a little more difficult.  Don't worry, I am still in!  Just not with anything as complex as a Corsair.  So, to the point...

I have a few kits I could tackle here.  A 1/48 Tamiya V-1, a 1/144 Revell Eurofighter Typhoon, and a Hasegawa SR-71 Egg Plane.  So, what do ya'll think?

May be the only chance I know of to build an egg plane in a group? Whistling [:-^] I think maybe the Visable B-17 would be a decent thing to try with your talents. Your probably sick of those single engine jobs anyhow. Wait was that a choice? Shock [:O]

Frank - Perhaps you were distracted from thinking about the "Twins" Whistling [:-^] Grab some CA and seal that laceration up , and you will be back at the bench in no time. ( I have a tube in my medic kit for when we are out on those extended Mtn Bike Trips)     I really do hope you heal up quick though.

Roy - Thanks for the link on the Dornier, there is some really good information right there. There was an old Monogram Mig I was eyeing at the hobby shop  but I did not think the "Prop" gang would welcome a"turbine" on the shelf.

So what should I be aware of?

Looks like severe silver poisoning! Or overspray from a faulty paintbooth. Maybe he eats them?

Good thing he has on the same shirt ! I would not have recognized him! Laugh [(-D]

Just wondering, got a Spit and Hurricane in the stash with the same camo pattern as the Buffalo.  Should I mix enough paint for three and set up an assembly line?

The earlier Academy decals tend to be thick and unresponsive to setting soltuions.  You might need some of that 50/50 vinegar solution to get them to sit.

Welcome aboard Jeff.  I just did the Tamiya E-4 recently for the Battle of Britain GB and it was a joy to build.

Buddy, if you feel like staying up for 48 hours straight and doing nothing but modeling I say go for it.  Otherwise you might want to think that over for a bit before you attempt three kits in one weekend Wink [;)]

rasordws,

If you have some room left, I would like to join your build with a Weekend Edition Airco DH-2 by Eduard.  Here is the thing, I started pre-shading the model ahead of the construction, as I am using enamel paints, and their drying time will use up a full day.  I painted the base grey color a few days ago, spent several hours applying the masking tape yesterday and this morning, then painted the dark grey on top, and white below this afternoon.  I will let this paint set up for at least a day, before I begin the actual construction.  My goal is to find out if a weekend kit can really be built in a weekend (or at least over a two-day span as I am on vacation this coming week).  Again, outside of the pre-shading, I have removed nothing from the sprues so far.

It's up to Dave, but from post 1:

Must be completely unstarted (sniffing the styrene is okay but no snipping parts off and cleaning them up - if you've previously snipped the parts off the sprue thats okay but as of now no touchy!)

I dunno Scott, I'm all about trying to make my GB's as inclusive as possible but it seems you've done quite a lot of work already even if the parts are still on their sprues.  The idea of this GB is to do the entire build, including the painting, within the 48 hour period.  I hope there are no hard feelings Scott but I think (and please correct me if I'm wrong everyone) all the work that you've done crosses the line of the intent of this build.  Got anything else in the stash that hasn't been started that you'd like to do in 48 hours? Propeller [8-]
