Well done Stephen!  I updated page one for you, and again- do you have a favorite photo of the finished model that you would like me to save for a future post?

A couple of nice looking Se5's. Very nice close up shots and the rigging is top notch. Always a pleasure to view your work, Stephen.

Sorry I'm late with the reply to your question.  There is a significant pinching of the fuselage forward of the cockpit but the picture may be distorting the view aft of the cockpit.  The line appears to be pretty much a straight shot from the cockpit to the horizontal stab.  The plan lines up well with the three view from above.  I'll post some additional pics this weekend

I got the Dual Combos versions of both the Dr-! and the D-VII just so I could hack up one of each to build this D-VI. I found a color book of restored WWI aircraft last fall and one of the aircraft detailed in the book is the D-VI.  I've been planning this build since then.  Now I've begun.  The hardest job will be deciding wether to compete the finished model as Origins to 1930 or Conversions.  Time will tell I guess.

Don,

Your D-VI is coming along nicely, think you'll have it ready by San Antonio?  As to which division to compete in, depends on how big a trophy hog you are.  Of course, if you built divine scale, you could of built it OOB.

Stephen, that is incredible work, sir! Thumbs Up [tup] We are indeed fortunate and privileged to have you involved in this GB. Your work never ceases to amaze me, and your willingness to share your expertise with us is a key ingredient to the continued success of these KOTS GB's.

Gentlemen, I have begun work on my 1/48 Eduard Fokker E.V. This looks like a great little kit and should be a joy to build. Not much to report so far - just been busy cleaning up mold lines and the occasional ejector pin marks. Sanded off the tread plate(?) on the cockpit floor, as I was under the impression they were actually wood (at least the instructions tell you to paint it that way). Also been adding a few extra details to the engine. Stephen's review of this kit is phenomenal, chock full of valuable tips to make an accurate E.V and thus far has been my primary reference. Hope to have some pics up as soon as I get some paint applied.

Mike-

I am VERY excited to see your work on that kit!  You do amazing work on these kites, and I know we are in for a real treat.  I have wanted to try that Eduard E.V, but after building that DML kit last year- decided to wait a bit!  Did a little work on my Morane Saulnier today, cleaned up the parts and started spraying the woodgrain base colors.  Man, I love painting woodgrain!  And to think I was terrified of it last year... Shock [:O]

Looking forward to those pics Mike! Big Smile [:D]

Stephen,

As has already been stated, your work continues to amaze us all! Bow [bow]  Although you recommended airbrushing, I wound up trying pastel chalk to fix the decals on my DH2, and I think that it did the job very well.  I will see about taking and posting a photo of the end product soon.  Thanks again for your advice and inspiration!

No worries Scotty. If it works it works. There is certainly more than one school of thought on how to skin a stringbag.  I look forward to your fix.  So will anyone who has this kit.

Well I'm not sure that I'll make it to San Antonio with this beast or not but I did manage to get some more lozenge in place today.  The Solvaset is still wet in places and the forward fuselage still needs to be covered but it's coming along.  I'll get to some final assembly tomorrow, at least the engine and machine guns.

Frank, I'm hoping to have some pics up by the end of the weekend. I have to tell you that it was your build last year of this particular plane that inspired me to hunt one down on eBay and have a go at it. I loved the job you did on it and kept thinking "man, I'd love one of those sitting on my shelf!". Stephen's very positive review of the Eduard kit clinched the deal. Right now I'm attempting to scratchbuild a fokker-type control yoke for it, as the Albatros-type provided in the kit just won't do. One thing I will not try is scratchbuilding a prop - I seriously doubt I could come close to your stellar effort. Instead I'll see what I can do with the kit one.

...and I'm definitely looking forward to some pics of your Morane Saulnier. It's a neat kit and should turn out to be a real gem in your capable hands. Thumbs Up [tup]

ok,just a little update on my 1/48 dr.1 dual combo...

both bodies are together now,one aircraft has been primed as its going to be sprayed up as MvR 425/17,the other will be done using decals(not sure who's aircraft yet...),but i've ordered another dual combo so i'll have plenty to build this yearWhistling [:-^]

Donald- Coming along nicely!  I always liked the contrast between lozenge and bold colors like black and white. Thumbs Up [tup]

Mike- Thank you, you are TOO kind!  I didn't know about the albatros type control yoke, I need to do more research!  Really looking forward to your progress pics.  The scratchbuilt rpop was a lot of fun, wish I could do another.  But, the Morane has the prop molded with the spinner so will probably just paint the woodgrain on.  But that Albatros... Wink [;)]

ludwig- Outstanding work!  Four of these little gems?  That's very cool!  I hope to build one of mine, as that kit really looks sharp in the box. Thumbs Up [tup]

Hey ludwig, That stand looks very familiar. Is that a schwimmer I see next to the DrI, hmmm?

dcaponeII, looking very nice. Look to be making good progress on the camo.

Looking forward to updates and very nice work everyone!

hi mobious,

yeah that little stand came with a magnifier on it as well as the clamps, the magnifier is all but useless but the stand and clamps are great for spraying....as it keeps the paint off your hands!Smile [:)]

and yes thats a 1/48 Tamiya Schwimmwagen Type 166 .....i'm trying to keep everything in one scale!

p.s. does anyone know of an after market set of MvR 425/17 decals or masks in 1/48 ?

dcaponeII,

Nice work so far! Thumbs Up [tup]

ludwig,

Those triplanes are coming right along!  I look forward to watching their continued progress.

Frank, Stephen, and anyone that is a carry-over from KOTS I,

Here is a photo of my now done done Airco DH2.  I finished the kit just prior to the end of last year, but had to touch up the decals as the "fading" came off in spots when I applied Micro Sol.  If you are building this Eduard Weekend Edition kit, I used white pastel chalk from Doc Johnson (purchased through Micro Mark) applied with a Microbrush then sealed with Metalizer Sealer.

and after

i'm gonna answer my own question here,

i've just realised i can mix and match the decals in the dual combo to make MvR famous 425/17 markings.

A nice save on the decals. The DH2 is an interesting concept to overcome the MG firing thru the prop arc. It's a very cool looking build, nicely done MPS. Congrats again on the save.

Hello everyone--- I'm a little late to the party it seems!

I'd like to join the build if I may, but I need to look around at kits and try and figure out what I would like to build!

I decided that the solid color rib tapes were not right for this bird.  I've been cutting rib tapes from the scraps of lozenge.  Here you go
