They both look good Ludwig. I always wanted to build an all red DR I. You did a fantastic job on both.

Hello everyone, Fantastic Builds to all.

SC, the DVII turned out great.

Stephen, the 3 Trideckers are awesome. And to build 3 at a time, whew!

Ludwig, Both the DR1's are stunning, but I'm with SC, the Red looks great.

Daywalker, Sorry about not finishing the EV. I over ran the time I'd estimated for an armour build and wouldn't want to rush it. I'll save the EV for KOTS III, along with a shelf of others.

 Great looking aircraft everyone!

Stephen, I should check in more often, I missed that DR1 on 48. I especially liked that one too. The streaked camo is really awesome. I also checked in on that cool website Luftwoller mentioned. That is phenomenal to see the DR1 engine fire up and run. Anyway, Thanks again for the correction(I really enjoyed it) and I am sorry I missed the earlier posted Tridecker.Blush [:I]

Hey luftwoller I added that website to the Favs. Thanks for sharing.

ludwig- Absolutely gorgeous builds!  I must say, a pair of stunning triplanes.  The markings on the first one are the ones I paln to use on mine when I get to it, thanks for the inspiration.  What color did you use for the red triplane?  I like it.  Your weathering looks just right to my eyes as well.

I updated page 1 for you! Approve [^]

Mo- No worries my friend!  I shall look for that E.V in the next round. Wink [;)]

Next Round. . .?  I smell a change in the wind says I. . .The windsock is holding at S, SE.  Looks like there will be another patrol over the Salient.  Biscuits, tea and coffee for the morning meal.  Dawn patrol will have us up against the Richthofen's Circus me boy-o's.   Our mission is to escort some two seaters of 54 Sqn over Amiens.  We will met up at 0530 hrs, here over map grid 432H.  Sharp's the action and be on it.  This is one of the Boche's big dromes.  Everyone to their bus.  Starting magneto off, swing the prop sergeant.  Now, mags on and one more swing. Settle down to let the oil warm and the rev's to even up.  There, waiting for the hand signals.  To the chocks men. . .stand by.

Guy,

Thanks for the link, that is really an interesting site!Thumbs Up [tup]

Soulcrusher, Stephen, and Paul,

Nice work gentlemen! Bow [bow]

Frank,

I was going to mention that I hope that you are considering either extending the end date, or starting a KOTS III September 1, as I have another WWI kit on the way (and several in my stash).  As far as my progress is concerned, I had a productive week, and should be taking photographs of two completed planes soon.  Yes, I could not take looking at my nearly completed Hansa-Brandenburg W.29, so I finished it off.  The Pfalz D.IIIa needs to have a few final details added (wheels, actuating links, and tail control wires) and a final protective overcoat sprayed on.  I will post the photos as soon as they are taken.

Scott- How about we do an extension?  To be honest, my Morane Saulnier is sitting back in it's box as I have not felt like working on it lately.  I considered a different build, but didn't think there would be time to complete it.  Shall we extend the end date to say, October 31?

Til Oct. 30 you say.  Yes I could extend my temporary tour of duty for you blokes.  As long as we keep knocking them out.  Here is a bit of fun for anyone signed up that finishes the next build.    I have an extra Osprey Sopwith Pup Aces book  that I will give away to the builder of the next finished kit.

Great... Looking forward to seeing that Saulnier return to the bench too.

Stephen, The Osprey Aces series is a great series of books. The color plates are very helpful and the personal history of each of the pilots is well written. I've started a collection of these spanning WWI and WWII, both Allied and German Aces. A very nice prize indeed.

I hope I have enough tiime to tackle those lozenge decals without any fubar's. I've looked thru the Eduard kit and it is great. Nice crisp moldings with no flash. Pretty much what I've become accustomed to with Eduard kits. Now that I've enough time I hope I can do it justice.

Hi all,

Here is my next contribution to the group build - the Aeroclub 1/48 RE8.  This one is going to be painted up in the markings of 3SQN, Australian Flying Corps.  Anyone who has tackled an Aeroclub kit knows that they can be quite rough, but in 1/48 this kit is the only game in town.

So far, progress is limited to the RAF4a engine.  The Aeroclub engine was fairly heavily and roughly cast, but also had some fine details buried away.  I managed to carve a basic engine out of the flash and get something with which to add some details.

Luckily for me, I will be modelling the aircraft with the cowls on so nothing much can be seen below the engine bearers or around the sides, so minimal detail in these areas is required.  There was no detail provded for between the banks of cylinders, so I added some details from wire, solder and plastic based on a few photos of the RAF4a that I could find on the net.  I also added some rocker arm details atop the cylinder heads.

I replaced the heavy and crude white metal air scoop with one scratch built from sheet brass and plastic.

I sat her all into the fuselage to see how she looked - looks roughly like an RE8 to me!  Looks like some work will be required on the tail fins as well...

Here is the engine with some paint thrown on:

Next I will start work on the interior.

All feedback welcome!

I added your RE8 to the roster! Thumbs Up [tup]

Beautiful work so far on that engine.  Would you mind sharing your techniques for paiting the rusted exhaust pipes?  I really like the effects you have gotten.

Very cool work Brad. Amazing how you've turned the castings in the first photo into the beautifully detailed engine I see in the last 3 sets. Very inspiring work. Looking forward to updates.

Brad,

That engine looks great!Thumbs Up [tup] I am looking forward to seeing the plane that it will go in.

Frank,

I can work with Halloween for now (to be honest, I was hoping for the end of the year).  Due to my other favorite hobby (cycling Tongue [:P]), it took a little extra time to wrap up the Pfalz and take the photographs, download them to Photobucket, and get to this point.  Anyway, here are the Pfalz D.IIIa and Hansa Brandenburg W.29, all finished.

Comments from one and all are always welcome.

I apologize for the shadows, but I took the photos outdoors this evening after I finished a ride.

Hey Scotty, Both the Pfalz and the Hansa look great. I really like the looks of the Pfalz, very nice finish and the prop really sets it apart. Great work on the rigging too. One of my favorite aircraft and you've done it up nicely. Thanks for sharing your finished work and congrats on the Osprey book.

Stephen,

I sent the PM, let me know here whether you receive it or not as I have had limited success using them in the past.

Mobius,

Thanks so much for the kind words.

Frank,

The Hansa Brandenburg W.29 was the first kit that I was building for this GB.  If you recall, I was down to the last decal when my luck ran out.  After letting it set and collect dust for several weeks, I finally decided that it needed to be finished.  The kit comes from Eastern Express, and is a reissue of a kit originally produced by Toko.  It is 1/72 scale and is about the same size as the Pfalz in 1/48, so it was a fairly large plane in real life.  I decided that my story is that this plane lost its left wing while landing in rough water.  When the new wing was installed, it had a different size cross painted on the upper surface.  Well, at least that is my story, and I am sticking with it. Frank,

I should have added this to my last response, but here goes.  Yes, I do plan on building at least one more plane for this GB.  I am tackling a resin sub for another group next, but will make my way back perhaps with a 1/72 Fokker F.1 by Roden that I picked up when I was on vacation.  I also have a couple of other posibilities on their way, but I will let you know for sure when I get ready to start.  In the mean time, I will keep checking in to see what everyone else is doing.
