After looking and reading over Detail & Scale, the RB-36H had four camera windows the Monogram just used panel lines to show, so I cutted the out.  First drilling a hole in the center, then useing my hobby knife to square up the corners.

(I will fix the over cut area)

Well I taped my RB-36H, to see how much nosie weight I need.  Which turnes out to be close a a full pound.  And I compared the huge size to my 1/72 B-47 StratoJet.

Feldmarschall: Thanks for the tip Fieldmarchal. Now I know something to look out for.

Bondoman: I have seen "Strategic Air Command" many times. It is a great movie, and I really like it but it seems that Paramount still has not released it on DVD which seems odd as most Jimmy Stewart movies have been re-released on DVD. Actually, I think we were talking about this earlier in this GB.

Speaking of reading material, has anyone picked up the new book on Curtis LeMay? I have seen it at Barnes & Noble for about the past month but have yet to pick it up.

Sorry for my absence guys. My summer was very busy. Great work from everyone! Its nice to see some SAC big sticks. Kind of reminds me of that Teddy Roosevelt saying. Anyway, due to my lack of build time, I am pretty well over committed on GBs right now. I would still like to hang around and tackle the big B-36 and include it in this GB still if that is ok with you guys; though I probably won't get to it until late this year or very early next year.

And WarH, required "reading" in this GB is "Strategic Air Command" with Jimmy Stewart.

Great to hear another person is doing a B-36, I found out that there's many problems with the kit. The main landing gear bay is open on the inside, and the top engine in takes are open to so you can see the green area of the landing gear bay.

I'm not the host, but.... why not tackle an manageable portion of it, like the interiors, when you can. I'd be into watching that.

Well I've ran into a problem, the intake part that only covers the upper half, so the bottom half is open and you can see the inside.  So I'm going to make somthing that will cover up the opening.

On the instruction sheet that comes with the kit, it say white in some areas.

I'm just now finishing up on my landing gear, and bomb bay.

And I picked this book from amazon.com

FMM, I can't find a reference to white. The B had red arctic colors, which would be pretty cool, but that's a minicraft 1/144 model. Otherwise, they are natural aluminum and magnesium, with silver paint in some places.

There's two big glitches in that otherwise fine model. The first is the leading edge intakes, which if you get a good photo of are bigger and more curved than the model. Easy to fix with a file. The second, which is hard to fix, is that the wing upper surface is continuous across the fuselage, rather than the other way around, as in the model. It means a cross of masking tape, and a bunch of putty, but it looks better if you do it.

Bondoman, don't know if I want to use the NMF on my PeaceMaker or not.  I am going with, Aluminum, White, Sliver, the main colors.

Wirraway, no but one day walking into my room and seeing half the plane hanging by only one huck, and the second one about to snap.  So on my 52's I just cut them off and sanded them down.  I'm going with Sac Bomber Tan, Sac Bomber Green, ether Dark Green (B-52) or just Dark Green, and Black on the bottom.

Congrats, Paul. That looks really swell. That model is a real chore, you are to be applauded for seeing it through. I've already thrown mine away about a year after I finished it, it just took up so much space. Very nice. Ikar1 would dig it.

FMM 6 bottles of Alclad went on my 'maker! But the magnesium sections look darn sweet.

You Buff looks great Wirraway, what colors did you use?  If your going to hang it up, don't use the little three point that are on the top of the plane, there to weak to hold up the weight.

Tamiya AS-14  USAF olive green

Tamiya AS-15 USAF tan

Tamiya TS-2 Dark Green

Hope you didnt find out that those mounting points are too weak from experience ! OUCH

Thanks for the tip though, cause I probably would have used them eventually.

I'm going to call this BUFF done.  I may revisit later to brush some pastels along the panel lines, but I'm basically sick of it and want to move on.  Decals were shot, I hit them with some microscale liquid film, and once I put them on, some polyscale softner helped to dissolve the carrier film.  I didnt sand the tyres down, as I havent ruled out hanging this one from the ceiling.

Yes I did, took planty of photos of the two planing I'm working now.  B-52D, and B-36.  I took pictures of the bomb bay of the 52, they turned out bad, 36 bombay turned out ok.

HvH mentioned that too. Word of warning- the buzz number is bogus. The decals that came with the SAC scheme, aftermarket from Superscale, were old and fell apart. I had to use the monogram ones, which also have a white background that's out of register.

Thanks much for the compliments. This is an unusual subject for sure. Paul, the righthand guy was the Radar Operator. He had basic flight controls. It's primary advantage was range. Armament is four .50's in thecenter wing, plus a christams tree launch rack on each outboard pylon with 5 FFAR rockets each.

And the pilot- that's ole HvH hisself!

It's interesting to see that F-82 with the radar showing up on here.. The USAF museum just took one just like that (might be the same one) away from the CAF and its in line for restoration as soon as Memphis Belle and Swoose are done.

Excuse me.. Is that an Uzi?

Bondoman A very well done F-82 !!!! The pilot figure really adds to the model, the helmet is outstanding.

Bondo, the F82 looks great !  Never heard much about them, whats the set up ?

Two cockpits ?  Two sets of controls ?  Two pilots ?

Well first of all you have to bend down the wings, fella. The kit has straight ones, which aren't accurate in accelerated flight, upwards, or loaded on the ground, drooped.

I think the nadir of that kit is the landing gear, both in how it's set up and in these big open caverns. But hey, we're here to help. Piccys please and we'll fix it.

By the way I repainted the twin mustang. My photos showed way too much silvering, all better now. pics soon.

EDIT:

Finished and on the ramp (ie in the booth where modeling goes on), my F-82 completed.
