Very nice work on the F-82.  The SAC "Milky Way" sash was several different shades of blue, depending on who painted it when and how long it had sat out in the strong sun light.  I have seen them everywhere from light sky blue to dark royal blue.  USAF aircraft during about the first 5 years of my USAF career were still NMF and the SAC planes had the sash and shield.  The late 60s and early 70s saw the transition to camouflage finishes and low visibility markings.

Here's my first entry to the SAC II GB. First of all, let's pray for Roger wherever he may be, that he's safe. He's always been the Spike around these GB's, lovable.

The F-82-F Twin Mustang, prime bomber escort until the F-84 was operational.

This is the Monogram kit in 1/72 strictly OOB. I worked a while to find the Superscale decal set for this black twin. It turned out to be oatmeal, so I painted tails and tips with Great Northern Big Sky Blue and did all the marks with individual stars and stripe decals from Fantasy Films in the UK, a great outfit BTW.

Hi,

I've actually just finished and will post this evening, but thanks for getting back to me. My F-82 has sustantial amounts of the airframe painted SAC sash color.

Based on some photos, I matched it to a Testors Railroad color, Great Northern Big Sky Blue. it looks better than this, but here's the chip:

I know what you mean about other priorities. Thanks for asking.

WHERE IS SPIKE????

I have opened the F-82, it's at the front of the list at long last. I need to find a blue paint match for the SAC sash color:DARWIN are you out there? I'll need to finish this in a couple of days as I am starting a handful of Matchbox kits.

Hi,

I have been pretty much "out of the picture" for modeling for most of the last year due to other priorities.  What can I do for you?

I am laid up with a bad back, I had surgery in Feb and at the end of the month I have to have #4 done, I think that I may be permently retired from my trade. Its not been fun. But I get to build models all the time.

Just joined this group build today.  Thanks for allowing me at such a late date.  I completed this 1/48 B-58 Hustler for the Natural Metal Finish Group Build and she was finished today.  She is covered with household foil, clear coated with Future Floor Wax.  She was built OOB with the exception of the aftermarket Exhaust Cans and Elevons.  I also added some lead weight to the nose.

Hope you like and thanks for looking

It is not too late. The original hosts are off, either guarding our southern border or locked in a basement in Wyoming. Anyhow, it's still active and we would welcome new pardner's, pardner.

What do you have in mind? And welcome aboard. I guess it's kind of a Co-op now, but it's a great subject.

And watching "Strategic Air Command" will get you bonus points!

Great looking stuff, men. I need to try foil, like the results very much. Sherman, I wondered what that thing was in the background of your wing shots! Well, me decals finally showed up and I'm pushing to finish the F-82.

I just finished a bad guy for SAC for another group build.

Soviet M-50 A Bounder, an Amodel kit in 1/72 scale finished in Alclad 2

The flying wing is next.

I joined this GB a few weeks back with a cross-over build that I just completed, an Italeri B-58A Hustler covered mostly with household aluminum foil.  This was my second effort at foil.  I'd say the results are a slight improvement given the larger kit to work with (the first effort was a 1/144 B-47 Stratojet).

Bondoman its to late, but good idea. I have the jet version on the way. I think I'll take that route next time.  This airplane was really ahead of the times. Its too bad none were saved. I would have liked to see them fly. Tho I did see the XB-70 when I was in grade school. We were taken out to the play ground as it did passes over Wright Patterson AFB, when the airforce closed the program.

thanks

That looks great. The engineering section looks really NCC 1701, don't you think?

If it's not too late, I'd try this- glue all trhee top halves together and all three bottoms likewise, getting the joints the way they otta be. It's a lot easier to do surgery to the leading/ trailing edges than that big flat surface.

Started the flying wnig today, buid up cockpit then when you put the wing halfs toghteryou can hardly see anything.

and half of wing, got a nasty joint where the outer wing connects. Should have been molded as one piece.

And with three we have a party, eh Paul?

Welcome aboard Sherman, and if we can run with this a little there's hope yet. I've got quite a few subjects that I'd like to build, starting with a KC-97 and yes a 'wing too, but you go first. I guarantee that'll be a show stopper sir.

Have you seen the viddie "Strategic Air Command" with Jimmie Stewart? Go rent it, it's a required course for application to this GB.

Here's progress to date.

I had based the whole build on a set of decals I bought , microscale sac F-82. Now I'm no stranger to the phenomenon, since I like old kits, but the decals just are no good at all, due to age, and I've tried everything in the Bondobook.

I've halted markings here, until my order of white stars comes in. Stripes, no problem and I have yellow stars.

Overall tho I'm pleased with the black, worked on that a bit, it's gray, and the blue looks nice. Next up after the decals are done is a little cockpit detail. and the rockets.

Enjoy, and let's keep this GB going. Where is Roger?

Here's the Monogram F-82.

I've built a lot of a/c, and they fall into a number of critical categories, but there is one that I forget about until it just sneaks up and wedgies me.

Every rarely not often now and then, a kit just goes together and says-"airplane". Not money, certainly not the number of parts, oh no, just looks you in the eye and sez "airplane".

It happens to me maybe once every five years, which means about every 20-25 kits or so. Forest for the trees kind of thing.

This is that kit.

Yeah, dissapointing or what ?  This GB is enough to put me off them, period.  I'm going camping in the outback for a couple of weeks with my son.  You guys better be on deck by the time I come back !

Aggie Man I'm not the host, but they've disappeared for the moment. I would welcome you, and please join us. Paul is the only active build, but I am starting the F-82 this weekend once I finish my RA build.

By the way, I went over to a guys house today; SF_ plane_nut, and he has about 700 kits he bought in a lotsale. I bought a bunch of stuff including an E3. One other thing he has, and it's on eBay, is a box containing a KC-135, XB-35 and an EC-121. How cool is that??!!
