I checked out my RB-36H kit and you can build both a B-36H and a RB-36H. It does not come with walking-strip decals but has them outlined with raised panel lines. Looks like a cool kit and it is HUGE!

Here's a trick I used for the stripes on the 1/72 BUFF. Since it was going to be natural metal, I primed the whole wing with black which is the norm for me under Alclad. Then I simply masked off the stripes themselves and painted all, and I mean ALL cuz it was a LOT, of silver over them. It was pretty easy to find the right width of tape, plus touch up was much easier with black than it ever ever would have been with silver.

Bondo,

If I was going to do my BUFF in the SEA camo scheme, would the walkway lines still be in black ?

Got it. Happy new year!

You're doing the same two kits that I am.

I just saw an F-111 detail kit here.

Thanks for the tip bondoman. That is what I will do on my B-36. Just need to get some tape, and then the aluminum and magnesium colored paint and I will be set.

Actually one thing I could use with any build at all is good reference materials! I do have some books in HC and PB that are useful (ie. lots of pictures) but they tend to revolve more around modern fighter jets. I think most of the research I get is usually through the magic of Google. There was a thread that was around maybe about a year and a half ago or so- a "Show me your library" sorta thing. I was always amazd at how extensive some of the posters here had their libraries. I always wanted something a little more like what I had seen. Just something about having a tangible reference there...

www.Amazon.com has Magnesium Overcast for $18,

B-36 Photo Scrapbook for $100

B-36 Warbird Tech for $90

several other B-36 books

I didn't realize that they had become so expensive.  I bought my copies several years ago, but I don't think that I paid nearly that much.

Didn't think to check online! Oops! I'm gonna heck around and see if I can find it locally, if possible. When it comes to books, I tend to be one that would prefer to see it, touch it, feel it, smell it, taste it, and feel it a little bit more. Guess I'm kinda silly that way...Blush [:I]

I doubt it's still in print. There's also a paperback version. It has so much info, including all kind of appendices listing every airframe, it's unit, disposition, etc.

Well the book itself is new, but Magnesium Overcast has been out for a while. I have seen it at Barnes & Nobles before. It seems to be in stock in some stores every now and then.

I think so too! I've looked for it on DVD, but so far, it's no luck here. I have run across that movie on tv in times past-I'm just wierd in that with a movie I haven't seen yet, I won't sit and watch when I start from the middle. I have to see it from the beginning! Time to go trolling through Ebay, it seems!Wink [;)]

Thanks Yardbird. I will have to pick that up. Especially since I am building a B-36.

I got my RB-36H today. Really haven't looked close at it so I don't know if it comes with walking strips or not but I doubt it.

No, they are NOT the same book.  The Warbird Tech B-36 is a good book, Magnesium Overcast is a GREAT book with lots of photos.  There is a book called B-36 Photo Scrapbook by Dennis Jenkins that is a compilation of photos that were not used in Magnesium Overcast.  It is also great.

Most likely they are copies. Best bet is to probably go with VHS. I don't know if Paramount ever came out with it on DVD. They should because it is good enough.

There is some place that does make it on DVD. Just Google Strategic Air Command DVD. This place has it but I think there are some others as well. http://stores.blowoutdvd1.com/-strse-122/Strategic-Air-Command-%281955%29_JAMES/Detail.bok

It really is a great movie and everyone should watch it. I haven't seen it in a while because AMC decided to quit showing it. Plus, Jimmy Stewart makes it better because he is a grat actor and would have been a colonel in the Air Force Reserves at the time of filming.

I have heard that Magnesium Overcast is a great book on the B-36. I have the Warbird Tech series book on the B-36 which is also be Dennis Jenkins. It is also a good book, but are they the same?

I'm beginning to wonder if this movie is even on DVD. Netflix doesn't have it. Amazon doesn't have it. I don't think I've ever seen it for sale anywhere.

Yea, but the B-36 was a high altitude bomber (it was from the time when SAMs weren't invented yet). You wouldn't hear it coming at 40 thousand feet.

I would not be so sure!!!

See the posts in "What the heck is..."

Roger and WH I submit that everyone needs to rent "Strategic Air Command" by the end of the year. I would write a quiz if it moves you.

Also, my recommended reading: Magnesium Overcast.

I've settled on the F-82, please.

Many say that the sound of a B-36 is pretty sweet. The sound of six R-4360s sychronized so close gives off a very distinctive sound. There are some clips on Youtube of B-36s and I must say that it does sound awesome! Big Smile [:D]
