Nice choice Your Highness. I used those decals on my CR.42. They are the biz. My only advice would be make sure that you use a brand new blade then you dont get a rough edge. Apart from that your golden.

Heres the colour profiles of the Dewoitine in the RA,

Pretty slick huh?

Heres a link to the decals in all the profiles,

http://www.modelairplaneinternational.com/full_site/frames/info/061.htm

I think im off to the LHS on wednesday (My Day off)

Hey Guy!!!!! I sent off those special made purplely -pink decals you wanted special made from Canada this AM!  Put them in a regular Business envelope so keep an eye out! Chopped them up in the worse places to make them fit and just went ahead and used some of the pieces to seal the envelope. Figured what the heck? That strapping young fellow likes a challenge! Laugh [(-D]

Oh well Canadian decals Jeeze you know who must surely have a hand in this!

Looking good Charles!  Sorry to see Dave caused that aerial to break. Wink [;)]

Guy- I like those 520's, very cool markings. Cool [8D]

Aaron- You're right!  Those are the Devil's Head markings.  I was experimenting with painting the other markings for that bird, but was having difficulties getting them to work.  Luckily, Guy found that Hannants set and now I can use the ones that came in the kit.  I started painting spinners, and hope to have some more pics of them soon. Big Smile [:D]

Just a little progress update.

I just finished my Airfix Fiat G50bis tonight. Unfortunately no pics yet, but I may get some up tomorrow. Time for bed now. :)

Couple of questions for you guys...

I was looking very closely at that CAM decals sheet on the Hannants site, and am trying to decide how to do a couple of things on my 109.  I have found that reference photos on these  birds are limited, and the great variety of colors/features makes it difficult to decide what to do with each one.  I looked at the CAM decals site, but they do not show this sheet anywhere.  "365-3" has a yellow chin cowl, but other places do not show this.  Some G-'s in theater had the underwing 20mm gun gondolas, others did not.  Some were G-6/Trops, some were not.  So, any ideas on these features?  Yellow chin or not, gun gondolas or not, and Trop filter or not?  Decisions, decisions... Sigh [sigh]

Good question Frank. The way id look at it is this, none of the things you mentioned are permanent. (Paint, Gondola, Trop filter)  All the planes in the Italian theatre were brought there from other theatres. If you building a general plane, it wouldnt have the yellow chin cowl. Wasnt that specific to the Russian front? Also the 20mm gondola's wernt permanant so could be modelled with or without. Before or after they were attached. As for the tropical filter, id say no, for Italy. It hot as hell in the summer but there isnt any desert so to speak.

Hope im only telling you something you allready know and just want confirmation on.

Looking forward to seeing it though. The suspense is killing LOL.

Guy, the Cant float plane is looking great. Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]  I love those markings for the De 520 too! Tongue [:P]

Charles, sorry bout the aerials but read my signature below!!!

Frank, Guy is on the right track (for once Wink [;)]).  Those aircraft would have been brought in from other places as they became available.  Being a secondary theatre they would get the throw aways from the Russian front as theirs were replaced with more advanced fighters.  Things like the yellow cowl (Russin theatre)would have been present until they got a chance to paint it over which in the heat of battle might have taken awhile.  Other things would have varied too as they may have come from different units and different production times.  Some of the tropical filters may have been leftovers from North Africa. This sort of gives you licence to do what you like unless you have reference photos of the specific aircraft you are doing.  HTH!

Hey hoo, Opinions please!!!

I went to the LHS on my quest for a Dewoitine D.520. My search was for a Tamiya offering but no joy. So looking in his other sections (He has all kits by manufacturer) i found this little beauty. Has anyone heard of LTD Models? It seems to have a little bit of flash here and there but some nice fine recessed panel lines. The decals seem sweet and also it comes with 2 Vacformed canopies. The cockpit details look a little on the light side so i ordered the Eduard Zoom set for it, some QB exhausts and Resin wheels. Looks like fun.

Guy I got that kit ages ago when I could not find the Tamiya one as well. At the time it was only like $9 . The LTD brands are limited production runs made from low pressure injected plastic and have Vacuform canopies.  I have actually built that one and their Boomerang kits and have been happy with both, A bit more figity than Tamiya but that 520 went together very well with no real firt issues that I can recall.  The only issue I remember with it was the smaller # 6 decal should have been the same size as the other two larger ones but it was no biggy to me at that time.  Lots of flash but not to tough to clean up.  Landing gear and pit will be a little soft in detail for your taste I'm sure but I think they make nice kits.

Frank You have a lotta lee way with the 109. Let your imagination go wild!  Wait that's FRank!  No telling what he'd do?  Could be scary!  With out a ref pic I'd just go standard G look. Accessorize to taste then bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.  Remove foil and Brown in oven for another 5 minutes.

It's fun to use your imagination!

Thank for the help guys!

I shall think on this one for a few days, as she's not ready for paint just yet anyway.  Like you said, If I can't find any specific reference photos, chances are good most others cannot either.  I wonder what she will look like when she's finished? Whistling [:-^]

That is an Interesting question abpout the Italerie CR 42? Aparently the molds were good enough for Tamiya to use them as well.  It looks like a pretty nice kit!

Looks like its a cracker Sean. The only bit id be examining closely would be the struts. But if Tamiya or Italieri put thier name to the kit, ill bet its a goodun. Im going to be watchin yours and Searges build closely. Im feeling the urge to buy another. LOL.

Woo hoo, my camera is back on line. So here are some photos of where i`m at with the ICR.42.

I know it is not much but this was done in 3 days not more than an hour a night /don`t you hate going to work/. Looking at the pics it looks like i`ve overdone the silver on the cilynders but i think a little dry pastels will blend everything. However there is something that bothers me, where to hell am i supposed to cut the cilynders block, as there are two seam lines, at the larger or the smaller diameter? Did i mention that i love resin and hate etchings? The pit will definitely be a pain to finish and install, especially with the detail painting. At the moment all that is done is painted with Tamiya and Vallejo acrylics and MM Steel metalizer for the cilynders. I hope you like what i`ve done so far.

Oh, and how can i forget, while i was spraying the cilynders my Sparmax airbrush broke down. I`m shure it was Dave`s fault!

Good man, your learning fast. As for the cylinders, cut them from the casting block flush! So your left with some of the stub with no fins on it. When you dry fit them to the cylinder block holes, the finned portion has to fit flush to the block so file the non finned part enough to allow this. Good luck.

I managed to get a coat of white on the cant tonight and a coat of Future. So you never know, i may have decals by tomorrow.

Dave -  I agree 100% with you. That was a Sarcastic plug that I had been speaking to Frank about.  I hate in box reviews. Dead [xx(] Nothing makes me madder to see that someone gets a kit for nuthing and to basically write a bunch of drabble with the closing statement "Looks Like it should build up Nice"  I want to know the good and bad and see the built version. Not the sprues spread out ... Black Eye [B)]

OK, I finally got some pictures of the Airfix 1/72 Fiat G50bis I did.

Some interesting things I did with this kit...

I drilled out the exhausts. I freehanded all the mottling. I used Tamiya Acrylics. I preshaded panel lines.

Great job Deeve, thx for posting the pics. That old Airfix kit has been spruced up to modern standards a treat. Front page updated. Good stuff. Whats next? Have you got another RA kit to do?

I am doing a Hasegawa 163 Komet for the Endgame GB, just started the engine assembly last night.

Hey kids, guess what ive finished...Go on....Guess then.......Im not telling if you dont try...Oh sod it, MY CANT...WOO HOOOO,

Without further ado, Pics.

enough pictures for you all? I have more.

I liked this kit, I really did. I was worried it was going to be a nightmare but apart from the lack of interior detail, it was great. The two other schemes on the box required a NMF. Due to the ammount of filler in the build made this a little impracticle. For me anyhow. Any ways onwards and upwards. Dewoitine time LOL.

I saw a Hasegawa 1/48 Fiat G.50 two weeks ago at our local show.  I was actually gonna buy it 'cuz it looked so cool, but I came back later in the day expecting the "20% off" or something to be going on and the vendor had already packed up and left. Disapprove [V]

Deeve and Guy- Well done! Big Smile [:D]

Guy- You're cranking these RA birds out like there's no tomorrow.  Do you give lessons on speed building?  I think I need some. Confused [%-)]

Thanks for the compliments! I just wish that when I took the pictures, I had blasted it with some compressed air to get the cat fur off!  I intended this kit to go together in about a week, but it turned into 3 weeks. Got distracted :)

I know there is a few of them in 1/48. Special Hobby, Hasegawa, Sector and a limited run by Flying Machines, and Pacific Coast Models.
